8 All students in Year 10 will study the AQA English Language Course Syllabus A. There is only one entry level. This entry level is graded numerically. All students will have a copy of the grid that compares previous assessment grades to the now current numerical grades. This course is assessed by terminal examination. There are two separate examination papers: Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing (1 hr 45 mins) 2 sections Section A: Reading; Section B: Writing Paper 2: Writer s Viewpoints and Perspectives (1 hr 45 mins) 2 sections Section A: Reading; Section B: Writing
9 Students will need to practise their examination skills and writing under timed conditions. Students need to focus on technical accuracy and maturity of expression in their responses. Students need to develop and extend their personal vocabulary. Students need to develop personal opinions and viewpoints relating to current and controversial topics. Students should be reading news events and papers. Students should be acting on advice from teachers and their EBIs.

11 All students will continue to follow the AQA GCSE English Literature Course Syllabus A. This course is assessed by terminal examination. There are two separate examination papers: Paper 1: Shakespeare and the Nineteenth Century Novel - Section A: Shakespeare (Macbeth/Much Ado About Nothing); Section B: Nineteenth Century Novel (Jekyll and Hyde/The Sign of Four) Paper 2: Section A: Modern Text (An Inspector Calls/DNA); Section B: Anthology Poems (Power and Conflict); Section C: Unseen Poetry

15 This year, all Year 10 students will be studying the new Linear mathematics specification GCSE Mathematics (8300) - AQA Content has changed slightly. For example, there are some new topics in the higher tier ; topics that traditionally are seen on an A-level course. Also, some traditional higher tier topics now appear on the foundation tier, therefore making the syllabus more rigorous. Studen
16 Year 10 students studying the GCSE syllabus broadly cover the topics of: Number, Ratio and Proportion Algebra Geometry and Measures Statistics Probability

18 Groups are set as follows: 10s/Ma1, 2 and 3 HIGHER Tier 10t/Ma1, 2 and 3 HIGHER Tier 10s/Ma4 and 10t/Ma4 HIGHER / FOUNDATION Tier 10s/Ma5 and 10t/Ma5 FOUNDATION Tier These groups will study GCSE mathematics over the next two years and will take exams at the end of Year 11. There are now 3 examinations instead of 2. One non-calculator paper and two calculator papers. Each exam is 80 marks and 1.5 hours in length.
19 Maths teachers and 6 th form students to offer their support to your children with Tuesday morning, 8:00am Maths clinics. Keep parents up to date with how your child is progressing throughout this year. Please contact your maths teacher or myself with any concerns as the year unfolds. You can support your child by ensuring they complete set homework tasks and prepare for half term assessments by revising thoroughly.

21 Students will be following one of two GCSE pathways: TRIPLE SCIENCE programme Leads to three separate GCSE qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics COMBINED SCIENCE programme Leads to one GCSE qualification in Combined Science BUT this is the equivalent of two qualifications

23 All Examination Papers are tiered Higher or Standard At the current time, the presumption is that, all students in sets 2, 3 and 4 will be taking the Higher tier and set 5 the Standard tier. Teachers decide on tier entry, based on each individual s performance during the programme of study.
24 Students started their studies in May 2017 Now in Year 10 2 lessons each week per subject With 3 specialist teachers Assessment All external examinations take place at the end of Year 11 (May/June 2019). Six x 1 hour & 10 minute examinations (two papers per subject). All six examination papers are equally weighted. All papers are tiered: either Higher or Standard.

26 Students will continue to work through the curriculum content. Students will sit three one hour examination papers in the early summer 2018 (Y10). It is expected that all content will be completed by Easter 2019 (Y11). Students will then sit mock examinations in March 2019 (Y11).
27 Teachers are always willing to provide extra help on an ad hoc basis students must not be afraid to ask Internal assessments (tests) will help us to keep track of your child s performance. These will inform the grades we put on reports and help us to decide on Higher/Foundation tier entry. It is essential that students prepare thoroughly. Practice Past papers Mock Examinations
28 Any student who has studied either Combined Science or Triple science pathway can choose A levels in any science subject, provided they meet the usual minimum entrance requirements for that cohort. It is NOT necessary to have studied Triple Science in order to be eligible for: Science A level courses at Tomlinscote Sixth Form College Science degree courses at Russell Group (inc. Oxbridge) or other universities Courses in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or Dentistry

A system that can be easily understood and used by all. Clarity for students and parents how are students doing against our expectations and how can they progress? 36 Year 10 Area of Focus 1: Number, Ratio and Proportion To apply the four operations to positive and negative integers To add and subtract fractions with the same denominators To recognise and use BIDMAS To divide a quantity into a give ratio To determine the prime factorisation of a number To convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions To estimate answers, check calculations, including answers obtained using technology To use compound units such as speed, rates of pay and unit pricing To estimate powers and roots of any give positive integer To multiply and divide by a fraction To use compound units such as density and pressure To use inequality notation to specify simple error intervals Apply multiplication and division to fractions and decimals Calculate proportional change using multiplication Find the outcome of a given percentage increase or decrease
