Y ANDERVOORT, M.D The session for will begin on Monday, October 14th, 1867, and continue until the 1st of March. The lectures will be given in the building adjoining the N ew York Hospital, as they were last year. The graduates of the University will perceive at once the important advantages arising from a connection with this, the largest Surgical Hospital in AmeriCa. There were treated in it last year nearly 3000 cases, more than half of which were surgical. Owing to being located in the midst of a dense population, the College Clinics are carried forward on a scale elsewhere unattained. The Hospital is open to students every day throughout the year. 3 They will attend the Clinical instruction of the Physicians and Surgeons, and witness the Surgical operations, which are almost of daily occurrence. It has a large library and Anatomical and Surgical Museum accessible to students, as are likewise the post-mq1 tern examinations in the dead-house. Professor POST is.one of the Consulting Surgeons. All the University lectures and instructions being in the Hospital, the student avoids the serious loss of time encountered in those cases where colleges are at a distance..he also has the great advantage of seeing the treatment of accidents and operations suddenly called for. The Faculty will feel especially obliged to their graduates if they will aid in making known these great inducements which the University now presents. The number of graduates of the Medical Department is nearly 2700, and the number of students has been more than LECTURES AND CLlNICS The course of lectures will be on Anatomy-general, descriptive, surgical, and pathological; Principles and Operations of Surgery; Materia Medica and Therapeutics; Institutes and Practice of Medicine ; Obstetrics, the Diseases of Women and Children, with Clinical Midwifery; Chemistry; Physiology; Clinical Surgery; Clinical Medicine; Clinical Lectures on Diseases of the Genito-Urinary Organs; Clinical Lectures on Diseases of Women and Children; Clinical Lectures on Physical Diagnosis; Clinical Lectures on Diseases of Children; Clinical Lectures on Diseases of the Skin; Clinical Lectures on Diseases of the Eye and Ear. CLINICAL INSTRUCTION. The University was the first institution to inaugurate this important feature of Medical.,Education in America; and the unlimited resources of New-York enable the Faculty to carry out the object which, to the practitioner, whether in Surgery, Medicine, or Obstetrics, is the great end of medical study, namely, familiarity with disease at the bedside. The Clinics are, arranged as foi'lows : Monday......Diseases of V\Tomen......Prof. BUDD. Tuesday Surgical Prof. POST. Wednesday....Medical Prof. LOOMIS. Thursday....Surgical Prof. GOULEY. Friday. '.'...Diseases of the Eye and Ear....Prof. ROOSA Diseases of the Skin Prof. WEISSE. Saturday..... Diseases of Children Prof. JACOBI.

4 4 The Autumn or Preliminary Course will begin on Monilay, September 2d., Th(jre will be lectures in this course by the following gentlemen: Prof, ROOSA, Prof. JACOBi, Prof, WEISSE, Dr. GUNNING, Dr. BUTTLES, Dr. EI,SBERG, Dr. QUINBY, Dr, HOWARD, Dr. GILLE'rTE, Dr. HOWE, Dr. LEWIS. In this course the Faculty of the University will participate. PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY. In addition to the advantages of the New-York Hospital, the stu -e;dents of the University have access, on the same terms as the stu,, 'fdents of the other city colleges, to Bellevue Hospital, in which clini cat Jectures and surgical operations take place daily throughollt the. 1'. In that institution Prof. LOOMIS is an attending physician,.'~ Prof GOULEY an attendil).g surgeon. Students are admitted to 'j,..the post-mortem :examinations. The regular operating days are )Vednesday and Saturday, at half-past one o'clock l'.m. Seven resident physicians and surgeons are appointed every six months in Bellevue, and are paid a salary for their support. In the New-York Hospit'al three graduates, or persons who have passed a successful ~xamination, are appointed to the Hospital Staff every eight months., Besides the above-mentioned hospitals there are others-st. Vincent's Hospital, t he Jews' Hospital, to which Profs. BUDD and JACOBI are attending physicians; St. Luke's Hospital, of which Prof. POST is consulting surgeon; the Children's Hospital, the Colored Home, the Woman's Hospital, the Lying-in Asylum, Blackwell's Island HORpital, to which Profs. B UDD, THOMSON, and LOOMIS are attending physicians; Emigrant's Hospital, etc. In the EY,e and Ear Infirmary, during the past year, seven thousand diseases of those organs were exhibited, and special courses of instruction in their anatomy and physiology, and in the use of the ophthalmoscope, given. The operating theatre and daily clinical lectures are arranged for the convenience of students. In the Dispensaries of the city there is also a wide field for practical observation, without charge. Some idea may be formed of the value of these dispensaries when i is stated that they treat every year more than eighty thousand patients. The diseases are arranged in distinct classes, such as those of the head, chest, abdomen, extremities, fevers, eruptive diseases, etc. Auscultation and percussion may be practised to any extent. The extraordinary facilities and advantages presented, by the city 5 of N ew York for the acqui.sition of practi.cal knowledge in medicine will strongly commend it to the patronage of the medical profession and to students. The U ni versity led the way in inaugur ~ ting and developing these great advantages, and its Faculty will continue to make them as available as possible. PRACTICAL ANATOMY. At no time have there been greater facilities for the cultivation of Practical Anatomy than at present. The supply of material is ' arranged by the laws of the State, and is ample and constant. Ex t ~nsive provision has been made for the coilvenience of the student. The Dissecting R.ooms will be open as soon as t he weather permits, under the customary regulations. MUSEUMS, APPARATUS, ETC. Complete illustrations are prepared for the different demonstrative departments-anatomy, snrgery, materia' medica, obstetrics, chejf! ~ try, and physiology, and the ensuing course of lectures will be', as perfect as heretofore. " '. CHEMICAL LABORATORY. The Laboratory for Practical Chemistry, under the special charge of the Professors of Chemistry and Physiology, will be open in September, with the same regulations and fees as in former years. I n it instruction can be obtained in the examination of urine, c:tlculi, blood, etc., and in those chemical operations, such as the analysis for poisons, that are of use to the medical practitioner. In the Laboratory, thorough practical instruction is also given in chemistry as applied to mining, mineralogy, and general analysis. The connection with the Literary Department of the University eua- ' bles a student who has pursued a full course to obtain the degree of Doct(J1' in Philosophy. ' Persons desiring to prepare t,hemselves for the duties of instructors or lecturers on chemistry are fitted for such situations. ' Assays and analyses of all kinds needed by business men ar ~ made in the usual manner. MOTT MEDALS.
