Introduction to the role The Course Convenor (ICT) will have a teaching role and will assist the Academic Director in providing a high quality pathway ICT course by ensuring the course is coherent in design, planning, management, delivery and assessment. This incorporates responsibilities for unit coordination, academic quality assurance, provision of academic advice to students, teaching staff leadership and management, teaching (and where relevant, unit coordination). The Course Convenor (ICT) is also responsible for developing and maintaining strong links with relevant Western Sydney University academic staff. This position is specifically responsible for the ICT course and units offered by Western Sydney University International College. Essential Skills and Experience Tertiary qualifications at the postgraduate level in a relevant ICT discipline area. Demonstrated ability and experience in delivery of classes (lectures/tutorials) within a tertiary level education environment in the discipline area of ICT. Demonstrated experience in, or potential for, contributing to the development of scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Demonstrated capability and experience in Higher Education in regards to course and unit curriculum development. Substantial experience in administration and staff leadership and management within tertiary education. Demonstrated interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills resulting in the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with a diverse range of service providers and stakeholders. Demonstrated computer literacy relevant to the role, including competency with the MS Office suite. Demonstrated ability to plan and organise work tasks and projects independently according to priorities. Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise staff in order to gain support in working together to achieve positive client service and work area outcomes. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate equitably on collaborative work tasks or project teams.

3 Position Description Title: Course Convenor (ICT) Division: Business Unit: Reports to: Full time or part time: Location: Navitas University Programs Division Western Sydney University International College Academic Director Full time Sydney, Australia 1. Overview and Objectives of the Position: The Course Convenor (ICT) will have a teaching role and will assist the Academic Director in providing a high quality pathway ICT course by ensuring the course is coherent in design, planning, management, delivery and assessment. This incorporates responsibilities for unit coordination, academic quality assurance, provision of academic advice to students, teaching staff leadership and management, teaching (and where relevant, unit coordination). The Course Convenor (ICT) is also responsible for developing and maintaining strong links with relevant Western Sydney University academic staff. This position is specifically responsible for the ICT course and units offered by Western Sydney University International College. 2. Key Relationships: i. Academic Director ii. Course Convenor iii. Academic Coordinator iv. Academic Staff v. Student Services Staff vi. Sessional Academics vii. College Director and Principal viii. Western Sydney University Academic Staff 3. Key Result Areas: Co-ordinate the ICT course including taking full responsibility for course and unit oversight, quality assurance, unit delivery and the management of teaching staff in liaison with the Academic Director. Liaise with teaching staff within the ICT course regarding student progress and specific problems being encountered by students. Liaise with the Western Sydney University academics with respect to matters of curriculum oversight, including course and unit changes, unit outlines, assessment and quality control of specified courses and ensure comparability of learning outcomes, curriculum and assessment practices with relevant Western Sydney University courses.
4 Oversee the development of teaching and learning materials within relevant units. Ensure quality assurance for courses of responsibility including reporting on course outcomes, via the Academic Director or directly, to relevant Committees. Undertake teaching (up to 8 hours per week) and unit coordination where relevant, for nominated units within the ICT course. Undertake responsibility for the leadership and management of the permanent and casual teaching staff within the ICT course, including: a) induction of new teaching staff; b) mentoring new staff; c) monitoring performance of teaching staff including reference to outcomes from student evaluations of units and student satisfaction surveys, undertaking annual interviews and promoting and supporting professional development; d) fostering professional excellence within teaching staff on all matters relating to student learning needs, including curriculum relevance, teaching materials, teaching strategies and assessment mechanisms, drawing upon contemporary educational theory, practice and technology in particular in the pursuit of open and free intellectual enquiry; e) implementing and promoting the Equal Opportunity & Diversity and Workplace Health and Safety Policies. Liaise with the relevant staff regarding student assessment processes and outcomes for ICT courses including, but not limited to, internal and external moderation activities, assessment committees, appeal of results; students at-risk, student program progression; record keeping of all assessment items implemented within each unit, and academic misconduct. Provide advice and assistance to students on academic matters, policies and procedures, and progression to Western Sydney University, and refer students to relevant support or administrative staff as necessary. Consider applications for re-admission of students after withdrawal or exclusion and make recommendations to the Academic Director where necessary. Assist with the preparation of relevant course performance reports for consideration by relevant academic committees. Contribute to and participate in professional development programs, scholarly activities (teaching and learning, and ICT discipline specific) and staff and college meetings. Assist in the development of periodic course change, reaccreditation and compliance reports and applications to relevant regulatory agencies. Other related duties as prescribed by the Academic Director. 4. Decision Making/Authority to Act: The Course Convenor (ICT) provides leadership and has substantial autonomy and decision-making authority in the day-to-day management of the ICT course. The Course Convenor (ICT) provides advice and recommendations on the management and delivery of the ICT course, to the Academic Director, and other staff as required. Page 2
