Logistics involves planning, implementing and controlling the flow of goods and services from suppliers to customers, to meet their requirements. Logistics is about having the right type of product at the right place, at the right time, for the correct price and in the desired condition. Logistics is part of the supply chain management process. As a logistics or supply chain management specialist, you ll need to be able to integrate key business processes while managing the relationship between customers and their suppliers. This course will train you in managing supply chain functions in an organisation and includes a selection of elective units to meet the current industry expectations for the logistics sector. If you re looking for a course that will enhance your employment prospects, then the TLI50415 Diploma of Logistics will give you a flexible way of getting the knowledge you ll need to find success in the industry. How is the course delivered? This is an online course with a work placement. This means that you will complete your knowledge and skills development through online learning. You will also undertake a work placement. Work Placement allows you to practise and master practical skills and gain invaluable workplace experience and contacts. Students must complete Unit of Competency assessments as well as Workplace assessments to be deemed competent for Workplace Units. Work placement is mandatory and must be completed progessively through the course. Grades for these Units may only be issued upon completion of the course. What is online learning? We understand that you may already have many skills and areas of expertise that you have obtained in different ways and these are recognised through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Open Colleges has developed an RPL Application Kit for this course. The Student Handbook, available on the Open Colleges website, provides more information about our RPL process. Alternatively, you can contact an enrolment consultant to discuss your RPL options. What is the duration of the course? The maximum duration for the course is 24 months. To complete the course in this timeframe, we recommend that you study a minimum of 14 hours per week. This is a guide only the time taken to complete your course will depend on your level of skill and knowledge. What is work placement? Work placement is a structured learning program undertaken in an approved workplace. It involves doing set tasks and activities over time under the guidance of a workplace supervisor and Open Colleges workplace assessor. A work placement is a highly stimulating and rewarding part of the course. It will enable you to participate in a real workplace and put into practice the new skills and knowledge that you are learning in the course. For those working in an appropriate workplace, you may be able to complete your work placement with your employer. More information can be found in the Workplace Assessment Guide. Workplace assessment The work placement also provides Open Colleges with an opportunity to assess the skills and knowledge you have developed through the course in the workplace. This is called workplace assessment. During the work placement, you are required to complete a logbook of your attendence at the host organisation, undertake assigned tasks in your portfolio of evidence and gather appropriate evidence of your task completion. You will also be in regular contact with your workplace assessor who will check in with you to guide and support you during the work placement. Specific workplace requirements > Duration: You are not required to complete a specific number of Work Placement hours. However, you will need to complete the Work Placement over a four-week period to demonstrate competence over time. This does not need to be completed in a full-time capacity or over consecutive days or weeks. For example - you may choose to conduct your Work Placement one (1) day a week over a four (4) week period, or alternatively work one (1) day a fortnight across eight (8) weeks. Your Work Placement arrangements are flexible, as long as you can demonstrate evidence that it was completed over a minimum of four (4) weeks. > Workplace: You will need to attend a workplace where there is a requirement to comply with chain of responsibility in the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and regulations or applicable state/ territory law and regulations. You will need to participate in applying and monitoring workplace policies and procedures relating to chain of responsibility in a supervisory role for a minimum of four weeks. The workplace must provide suitable access to conditions that allow for a demonstration of skill and knowledge in: > Methods and requirements to ensure management of fatigue, speed, load restraint, mass and dimension > Applying chain of responsibility obligations relating to learners own job role on a minimum of three occasions > Applying and monitoring workplace policies and procedures relating to chain of responsibility in a supervisory role for a minimum of four weeks > Preparing reports of chain of responsibility breaches on a minimum of three occasions, each about a different type of breach.

6 TLI50415 Diploma of Logistics The workplace should have access to a range of parties in the chain of responsibility such as: > Consignors and consignees > Drivers/owner drivers > Employers, prime contractors and operators > Loaders > Loading managers > Packers > Parties in the extended liability provisions of the HVNL and regulations or applicable state/ territory law and regulations > Schedulers > Insurance: Open Colleges provides insurance cover for the mandatory work placement you undertake as part of your course. This insurance coverage includes Public and Products Liability Insurance as well as Student Personal Accident Insurance. > Questions? The workplace should have principal obligations relating to chain of responsibility in the HVNL and regulations or applicable state/territory law and regulations including: > Consideration of traffic conditions in managing speed and fatigue > Extended liability > Fatigue, work and rest times > Securing loads > Vehicle dimension and load limits > What constitutes a duty, a reasonable step, a breach and a penalty to chain of responsibility regulations as they apply to a range of job roles > Where to locate current chain of responsibility information > Supervisor requirements: The Workplace Supervisor will need to be an individual currently employed within the transport and logistics industry in a relevant workplace with at least three years experience in a position where they have held responsibility for applying and monitoring workplace policies and procedures relating to chain of responsibility in a supervisory role. > Student requirements: While undertaking Structured Workplace Learning, you must abide by the policies and procedures of the workplace. Education Requirements You will need to have completed Year 12, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following: a qualification at Certificate III level or higher, or 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication. Minimum Age Requirements You will need to be at least 18 years old. English Language Requirements This course requires you to read comprehensive learner modules and textbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and engage in online discussion forums. Furthermore, the course relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires the successful completion of English to Year 12 level. Where prospective learners have not successfully completed English at Year 12 level, they can demonstrate equivalency in one of the following: > Successful completion of a Nationally Recognised Training qualification at Certificate III level or higher; or > 3 years relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication. Open Colleges recognises that not all people are able to read, write and perform calculations to the same standard. To help give you an idea of the language, literacy and numeracy skills required to study this course, you can undertake the online Language, Literacy and Numeracy tool available on the Open Colleges website. Audio-visual requirements You will need access to software to view online videos. Software such as Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Viewer etc are available as a download from the internet. You will also need access to a digital video recording device and/or digital camera and associated software to save and upload video and image files to OpenSpace. Many mobile phones and smart phones include this technology. Physical requirements Some assessments include a component for learners to record a video with up to two participants. The requirements for these videos vary, depending on the assessment. For the following four units; TLIL5055 Manage a supply chain, TLIR5006 Develop, implement and review purchasing strategies, TLIU0001 Develop workplace policy and procedures for environmental sustainability and BSBRSK501 Manage risk, learners that are unable to conduct these in the workplace, have the option of engaging with friends, family and other learners to record this via various means such as Skype.
