3 Texas Public Education Mission Statement The mission of the public education system of this state is to ensure that all Texas children have access to a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and fully participate now and in the future in the social, economic, and educational opportunities of our state and nation. That mission is grounded on the conviction that a general diffusion of knowledge is essential for the welfare of this state and for the preservation of the liberties and rights of citizens. It is further grounded on the conviction that a successful public education system is directly related to a strong, dedicated, and supportive family and that parental involvement in the school is essential for the maximum educational achievement of a child. (TEC Title 2, Ch 4, Sec.4.001) Campus Mission Statement It is the mission of the Alternative Education Department to provide a robust and rigorous blended learning academic environment for students, through the lens of cultural proficiency and responsiveness, by attending to the needs of the Whole Child and providing a restorative climate invested in healing harms and preparing students for continued chance at academic and behavioral success. 4 Focus Area: Attendance Performance Objective We will develop a tiered strategic and systematic campaign to ensure students attend ALC and take advantage of the academic and social and emotional opportunities. We will create incentives for attendance as well as make connections between college, career and life. We will provide wrap-around services to support the social, emotional and mental health of students. 11 Focus Area: Family and Community Engagement Performance Objective We will increase family and community engagement through the development of a parent resource center, parent and student college and career fairs and parent exit surveys. We will utilize transition facilitators to serve as family advocates through the transition from ALC to the home campus. We will provide a healthy 3rd meal option for free for all students, and have a full salad bar at lunch for all students.
