4 Helping students stay organised and in touch from anywhere Timetables, homework, study aids, reminders, extra curricular activities Firefly gives students access to all of their school resources. Read on to follow Sally s day as a student. 8:05am Sally checks her phone to see today s timetable. She has one outstanding homework task: a Shakespeare essay to finish and submit. Her messages include a date for her French mock exam and a room change for an after-school club. 10:30am In Biology, Sally uses her phone to take a photo of her photosynthesis experiment, upload it to her Firefly and share it with the class. 1:15pm Over lunch, Sally accesses audio revision files for her upcoming French exam, then reviews her teacher s comments on her last test. 3:25pm Sally receives a push notification about tonight s History homework. It s equally handy when she misses a lesson as it keeps her up to date.

5 5:35pm At home, Sally finishes her Shakespeare essay using Google Docs and submits it directly to her teacher through Firefly. She can also use Office 365 or Pages it s up to her. 7:40pm Homework is made easier by checking the History forum, as well as a topic page recommended by her teacher. Her dad helps by discussing the resources with her. 9:20pm Sally ends the day by writing a reflective blog post about her revision plan. 6 Giving teachers the tools to create content and stay on top of every class 8:55am Theresa opens the Teacher Planner app en route to her first class to ensure she s fully up to speed on the lesson ahead. She quickly refreshes her memory on the seating plan, lesson notes and student profiles. Firefly makes it easy for teachers like Theresa to create and share inspiring classroom content, manage homework and timetables, and communicate with students and staff. 7:30am Theresa launches her dashboard and checks her timetable to see today s classes. Thanks to Firefly s seamless MIS/SIS integration, all of the information is there and up to date. She replies to a message from her Head of Department and checks homework. 7 1:20pm Over lunch, Theresa creates a new topic page for her class, pulling in PowerPoint, Prezi and video content and adding her own text to make it relevant to the latest syllabus. 2:50pm Mid-lesson, Theresa sends the class a useful resource created and shared in Firefly by a colleague in the English department. One of my deputies says she s an IT-phobe within two minutes of being shown how to do it, she could set homework using Firefly. Nick Phillips, Headmaster, Farnham Heath End School 6:50pm 8:00pm During parents evening, Theresa uses the Teacher Planner app to talk parents through their children s work this term and clearly show their progress. Theresa uses her ipad to work through some marking, using Explain Everything to annotate her comments and the Teacher Planner app to send this feedback to students. Her markbook updates automatically.

8 Keeping parents involved and informed, effortlessly 12:50pm Paul wants to check how Sally is doing in History. He logs on to the parent portal with his own address, reads last term s report and sees her marks on recent tasks. He notices she has History homework set for this evening. How was school? With access to his children s timetables, homework plans and school reports, plus messages from teachers, Paul already has a good idea. 8:40am Paul checks the school calendar on his phone and makes a note of Sally and her brother Leon s next parents evening. 10:30am Paul receives two new push notifications: a note from the football coach saying Leon s game is off tonight and a request to fill in a form for a school trip. He completes the form in Firefly.

9 3:25pm Paul checks in on the latest information on the Parent Association area. He reads about the upcoming charity concert and the newly published E-safety policy. 6:30pm Paul finds the History topic pages on Firefly for Sally s homework and goes through the resources with her to help her complete it. 10:40pm Paul sees Sally s blog post on her revision plan and feels encouraged that she has really thought it through. I'm surprised how quickly I have adapted to using Firefly, as I was dependent on paper communications! I mainly use my iphone to check info and it works really well. I use it frequently to check times and venues in the school calendar, it's great to finally have all information in one place.
