2 Introduction from the Chair of the Governing Body and the Principal/Chief Executive The creation of Coleg Cambria, the new college for North East Wales, is a hugely significant development. The Board of Governors and college managers are very aware of the scale of challenge, the opportunity and the expectations that come with their roles in leading Wales newest educational institution. Building on the sectorleading successes of Deeside College and Yale Colleges, the respective governing bodies have shown great foresight and ambition to recognise the unique potential that is now vested in Coleg Cambria. Our new college is your local college. We want to build on our past success, reputation and community engagement in Deeside, Ruthin, Northop and Wrexham and as a trusted partner with the local authorities Denbighshire County Council, Flintshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council. Our commitment is to more and better opportunities and we are here to work with you and serve you. We are extremely ambitious for you and for every business, community and individual in North East Wales and into the wider sub-region that we serve. We are passionate about the role of education, training and skills as a driver of economic development and social justice. Putting all learners first, inspiring them to engage, learn and develop, and innovating in all that we do to ensure their success will be our priority. Our learners, staff and governors have set a very ambitious vision for Coleg Cambria. As one of the largest colleges in the UK it is right that we aim very high and then achieve. We will only do this if we also inspire all our staff and encourage a culture of innovation to feed their undoubted thirst for further success. We will build our future on valuing, challenging and supporting all our staff this will be our route to excellence. We will test ourselves and measure progress through meaningful and measurable targets based on the excellence of the very best public, private and third sectors organisations in Wales, the UK and internationally. The name Coleg Cambria was very carefully chosen. Coleg is the Welsh name for college and Cambria is the Latinised name for Wales. We are very committed to being a college for Wales, and immensely proud to be a truly Welsh institution in North East Wales. This is a strong feature in our Core Values and is demonstrated through the development of our new Welsh Language Scheme. We look forward to working with you and all our partners. 4 Our Key Targets and Priorities Our learners will have the highest overall successful completion rates in Wales, and all areas of learning will be classed as Excellent when assessed against Welsh Government criteria. All of our learners will demonstrate a measurable improvement in literacy, numeracy and employability skills on completion of their programmes of study. We will remain at the forefront of engaging learners and operating through the use of digital technologies. Employers and stakeholders will confirm that Coleg Cambria learners develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to achieve successful progression into further learning, employment or higher education. We will enhance internal and external communication with all our stakeholders and communities, alongside an absolute commitment to champion bilingualism, Welsh culture and heritage. Work in partnership with universities to develop and expand Higher Education learning opportunities across Coleg Cambria. Promote and compete in skills competitions seeking to secure at least one place in the UK Squad for São Paulo We will develop a transformational Professional Development Programme for staff that maximises the potential and talent of individuals, teams and leaders. We will establish a comprehensive system for tracking learner progression alongside an award winning Alumni Scheme. Coleg Cambria will be a financially robust organisation, able to respond to the challenging economic climate by being efficient and offering value for money, with new income streams to generate sustainable surpluses to support investment in our college. Develop our strategic role in contributing to economic development by developing responsive and effective employer engagement. Work in partnership with local authorities and other organisations and agencies to support major infrastructure and economic development initiatives. Produce an estates strategy designed to ensure significant on-going investment across all campuses. This will raise aspirations and encourage innovation and developments will include: Working with Wrexham County Borough Council, Glyndwr University and schools to significantly develop and invest in facilities at our Coleg Cambria Yale site, linked to opportunities at Coleg Cambria Wrexham Training. The Sixth Form Hub at Coleg Cambria Deeside in partnership with Flintshire County Council and schools. Further realisation of the unique opportunities at Coleg Cambria Northop, including conference and related facilities. Continuing to enhance the estate at Coleg Cambria Llysfasi in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and schools, initially through new agriculture and teaching facilities. Operate sustainably across Coleg Cambria, reducing the impact on the environment though reductions in our carbon footprint. 5 About Coleg Cambria 1 2 Coleg Cambria is one of the UK s largest colleges employing more than 1600 staff, with over 7000 full time students and 20,000 part time learners, with international links covering four continents. Coleg Cambria has six campuses which include a 1000 acre farm, a state of the art animal care centre, two restaurants, a centre of excellence for Engineering, a public art gallery and Flintshire County Council Corporate Training Centre. 3 4 Coleg Cambria offers learning from pre-entry to HNC and foundation degree for a range of students including, full time, work-based learners, apprentices and part time community learners. Coleg Cambria serves three local authorities with a population of almost 400,000 people which represents more than 12% of the population of Wales. 5 6 Coleg Cambria is developing a strong Welsh Language Scheme and is committed to promoting Welsh Language and culture.
