1 Webinar: Getting Started in Your School or District with Accelerated Reader Who should attend? Individuals who are responsible for managing Accelerated Reader (AR ) throughout the district, school, or in the school library. Purpose: The purpose of this Webinar is to help you understand the tasks and responsibilities of managing Accelerated Reader throughout your district, school, or school library. Prerequisites: 1. Your Renaissance Place Website is set up. 2. You ve attended the Welcome to Renaissance Place Webinar. 3. *You ve attended Getting Started in your Classroom with Accelerated Reader. *While you may not be using Accelerated Reader directly in the classroom, this Webinar may give you insights on how to more effectively partner with teachers as they use Accelerated Reader in their classrooms. 5 Instructions for Software Tasks *For more details on the following software tasks, please visit the Renaissance Training Center and view the Reading On-Demand sessions. Manage Quiz Usage Setup rules for making quizzes available Enterprise customers 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Manage Quiz Availability under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click Setup Rules under Actions on the left. 3. Select Activation Rules. 4. Add or remove checkmarks from the available options based on the quizzes you want available to your students. 5. Click Save. Understand the Widget set only by district-level administrators *The Widget is available to Renaissance Place Real Time customers. It is designed to be placed on district, school, or public Web sites to share the excitement of Accelerated Reader activity throughout your community. For more information, see KB article at 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Widgets under the Renaissance Place tab. 2. Click Choose a widget from the gallery. 3. Select a theme. 4. Click Select under District or School. 5. Use the drop-down lists to choose what data you want your widget to show. 6. Click Save Widget. 7. Highlight all of the HTML code, right-click, and click Copy. 8. Paste this HTML code into the desired page of your Website. Identify users and print book labels Identify user names and passwords 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Reports under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click School Management. 3. Click Student Information Report. 4. Review the customization options and click View Report. Page 5 of 8

6 Print book labels *To make sure they align properly, always practice printing book labels on a blank sheet of paper before printing on your labels. For difficulties printing labels, go to our Knowledge Base at and see article number On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Reports under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click School Management. 3. Click Labels Book. 4. Select Some next to Select Quizzes. 5. Click Select Quzzes. 6. Click More Criteria. 7. Enter your search criteria and click Search. 8. Check the titles you d like labels for and enter the number of labels needed for each book. 9. Click Add. 10. Click Save. 11. Review the remaining customization options and click View Report. Set Quizzing Guidelines *To ensure the fidelity of your school s Accelerated Reader implementation, we recommend meeting with your Accelerated Reader team to determine consistent quizzing guidelines based on what is right for you and your students. Set IP restrictions set only by district-level administrators 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Product Administration under the Renaissance Place tab. 2. Click Set Security Options for Students and Parents. 3. Enter the IP addresses where students will be allowed to take Accelerated Reader quizzes. 4. Click Save. Set date and time restrictions 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Preferences under Accelerated Reader. 2. Click Date and Time Restrictions. 3. Select the appropriate school if necessary and click Edit Date and Time Restrictions. 4. Review the available preferences, make changes where necessary, and click Save. Page 6 of 8

7 Understand how to manage the Student Quizzing school preferences 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Preferences under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click Student Quizzing under School Preferences. 3. Click Edit Student Quizzing. 4. Use the drop-down list under Edit Settings to change teachers ability to determine classroom settings for TOPS Report printing, monitor password usage, Literacy Skills retakes, and including definitions on the Vocabulary List Report. 5. Any of the remaining preferences will be set for the whole school. 6. Once changes are made, click Save. Understand how to manage the Student Quizzing classroom preferences 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Preferences under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click Student Quizzing under Classroom Preferences. 3. If available, select a school and class, and click Edit Student Quizzing. 4. If available, use the drop-down list under the preference to change the classroom s settings for TOPS Report printing, monitor password usage, Literacy Skills retakes, and including definitions on the Vocabulary List Report. 5. Any remaining preferences may be set by an individual classroom teacher. 6. Once changes are made, click Save. Locate Essential Accelerated Reader Resources Accelerated Reader Software Tips for Getting Started 1. On the Renaissance Place Home page, click Resources under the Accelerated Reader tab. 2. Click Manuals. 3. Click Accelerated Reader Software Tips for Getting Started. Getting Results with Accelerated Reader 1. Go to 2. Click Training Center. 3. Click Professional Development. 4.
