4 Questionnaire: If you are on part of the EDClass programme (this is something your teacher will have put you on) then every time you log onto EDLounge you will presented with a questionnaire (as shown below). You need to fill out this questionnaire and sign it before you can proceed to your student EDLounge home page.

5 Student Home Page This is the student home page. Below is a brief description of the different components on this home page. Top toolbar: 1. EDDollars display This shows the virtual funds you have available in EDVille. The currency is called EDDollars (ED$) and can be spent within EDVille. 2. Population display This shows the virtual population that lives within your EDVille world. This number will go up or down depending on how you manage your city. 3. Manual Clicking this button will instantly download a copy of this manual to your computer for reading or printing (think before you print!). 4. Introduction Video Clicking this button will open a video. The video introduces EDLounge and describes what you can do within the student side. 5. Home This button brings you back to the student home page. 6. Notifications This takes you to the notification page. This shows you a history of your recent notifications. 7. Calendar This takes you to your calendar. You can add events and reminder notes to your calendar. 8. Learning Rewards This takes you to a history of all the rewards you have received in EDLounge. 9. Messages This takes you to your message board. Here you can view your sent and received messages as well as create your own message. 10. Settings This takes you to the settings menu where you can change your password and test your connection. 11. Date and time This displays the current time and date. 12. Logout Select this button to logout of EDLounge.

6 Main page: 13. News feed This displays recent news regarding EDLounge e.g. new games and new content 14. Alert button This button will only be displayed if you are on EDClass. If you are on EDClass then it will always be displayed. If you are in need of assistance then you need to select this button. It will send an alert to EDLounge who will work as quickly as possible to resolve your problem. 15. My folder This button takes you to your files. This area keeps a copy of any files/documents that you have created in EDLounge. 16. My timetable This button takes you to your timetable. This area displays your weekly school timetable. 17. EDFiles This button takes you to the EDFiles area. This is where all your files are backed up on the cloud, so you will never lose your work. 18. My Progress This button takes you to your progress page. This area displays how well you are doing within your subjects. It will keep track of how well you are doing in our subjects (whether that be below, on or above target). Your progress is also tracked so you can view it in the form of graphs and tables. 19. My Classes This button takes you to a list of your classes. This area tells you what class groups you are in for various subjects and with which teacher e.g. English, Group 2, Mr Hatcher.

7 20. Avatar This button takes you to your avatar within the avatar editor within EDVille (see the EDVille user manual for more details). Here you can personalise your own characters appearance. 21. Cabinet room This button takes you to the cabinet room which is where all of your game achievements, certificates, tokens and other rewards are stored. 22. Revision games This button takes you to the revision games. These are revision versions of the games that are available on EDLounge. 23. Game achievements This button takes you to the game achievements which is a log of all you game activity on EDLounge. 24. Learning Achievements This button takes you to a personal lesson achievements area. Here you can enter your own achievements for lesson topics. 25. Games This button takes you to the games area of EDLounge. Here you will find a variety of fun, easy to play games. You have to pay to play using the EDDollars you have earned through completing lessons. 26. Puzzles This button takes you to the puzzles page. In here you can select puzzle to complete from different subject areas. 27. Extracurricular This button takes you to the extracurricular page. This page is where extra groups/clubs are displayed e.g. drama club. 28. Learning This button takes you to the current lesson on your learning pathway. 29. Lounge/EDVille This button takes you to EDVille. This is your virtual world area where you can manage your own city and house. 30. EDClass This button opens up the EDClass chat. This is important for any students who are on the EDClass programme. Here you can live message or audio message a dedicated staff member for any assistance you may require. 31. EDQuals This button takes you to the EDQuals area of EDLounge. This area is only important to students who are on the EDQuals programme. This is your coursework and assignment area. 32. Social This button takes you to the social area. Form here you can view your friends and a live feed of new announcements from your friends. You can also see your social code, which is needed for friends to and you to add each other. 33. Message speech bubbles 1 This will display your school/lesson attendance. This is important for EDClass. 34. Message speech bubble 2 This will display any new notifications. 35. Leader boards This button takes you to the leader boards page. You can view the current leader boards (national, school or friends) for all the games on EDLounge.

8 36. Learning Wall This button also takes you to your personal learning log. From here you can view all the lessons you have completed as well as the strengths, weaknesses and comments that you have made for each. 37. Career Work This button will take you to the careers page. In this area you can select from a number of careers to completed lessons on. 38. School Pathways This button takes you to the school pathways page. This area will show a list of predefined learning pathways that have been set out specifically by your school. 39. Friends This button takes you to the friends area. From here you can see your own social code and a list of your friends. In here you can also message friends in your list, delete or block them and send a request to add new friends. Bottom toolbar 40. Learning This button takes you to the current lesson on your learning pathway. 41. Independent learning This button takes you to the independent learning page. This is the full bank of lessons available on EDLounge that you can choose to do as well as your set learning pathways. 42. Library This button takes you to the library page. In this area you can choose from a selection of premade (by EDLounge) learning pathways to complete. 43. Coursework This button takes you to the EDQuals section. 44. Homework This button takes you to the homework page. It displays a list of your currently set homework. It will tell you what it is for, who it was set by, a deadline and whether you have done it yet. 45. Exams This button takes you to a list of exams that have been set for you. 46. Revision This button takes you to the revision page. Here you can access revision lessons and content that has been set up by your teacher. 47. Reports This button takes you to your reports page. This area shows you how you have performed in previously completed lessons, learning pathway performance and your overall school performance. 48. Lounge/EDVille This button also takes you to EDVille.

9 Help video: Selecting the video tutorial icon will open a video that will describe what EDLounge is and does.

10 Alerts: If you are on the EDClass programme the alert button will be very important to you. If you have a problem/issue/emergency then you need to select this button. When you do this message will appear. Once this message appears and you select yes, a message will be sent to EDLounge and online teaching support who will solve your emergency. A live chat will then appear and one of our dedicated online support staff will talk to you to assess and solve your emergency. IMPORTANT! Only press the alert button if you have a real emergency/issue/problem. When you have set the alert off, text messages will also be sent to designated staff who will find out what your problem is and solve it. Note. It must be noted that everything you type on EDLounge is tracked. Therefore any abusive language will be logged and your school/parents/guardians will be notified about it.

11 EDClass Attendance: This is important for anyone on the EDClass programme. To view your EDClass attendance you need to select the wording ( click here to view your attendance ) in the top message speech bubble. The screen below is what will appear. EDClass attendance shows you AM and PM registrations. The required AM, PM and full attendance for the day. When you register onto your account. The time you have spent learning (AM/PM). The time you have spent idle (AM/PM).

12 Lessons: This is what lessons within EDLounge look like. Below is generic lesson slide with a descriptive list of what the various components area and do. 1. Slide colour Change the colour of the slide background. 2. Text colour Change the colour of the text. 3. Font You can choose between a regular font or the open dyslexic font. 4. Text size Change the size of the text 5. Save and exit Click here to take you back to the student home page. Your progress on the current lesson will be saved. When you go back onto learning you will be back on the lesson and slide you were last on. 6. Previous/next Use these buttons to navigate between lesson slides. 7. Alert This button will only be displayed if you are on EDClass. If you are on EDClass then it will always be displayed. If you are in need of assistance then you need to select this button. It will send an alert to EDLounge who will work as quickly as possible to resolve your problem. 8. Help This button opens up a help menu regarding the lesson you are on.

13 9. Ask us This button opens up the EDClass chat. This is important for any students who are on the EDClass programme. Here you can live message or audio message a dedicated staff member for any assistance you may require. 10. Listen This button allows you to listen to an audio of the lesson. It will read out the lesson for you. 11. Report audio This button allows you to report any issues within the audio e.g. it may say a word wrong. 12. Upload file This button allows you to upload an external file to the lesson if required. 13. Main body This area is where the main body of text and activities will be displayed for you to read and interact with. 14. Keywords Each lesson has a list of keywords that are important to that particular lesson topic. 15. Objectives Each lesson has a list of objectives that you are aiming to achieve within it. 16. Report bug This button opens up the bug report menu. In this area you can type a description of a bug (e.g. an image is wrong) and send it to the EDLounge team who will endeavour to fix the error. Other buttons that may appear on a lesson slide include: 17. Calculator This button opens a calculator that you can use to help you with any sums you may need to do in a lesson. 18. Doodle This button opens up a doodle pad that you can draw upon to help you in a lesson.

14 Slide Types : There are a number of different slide types that can appear within a lesson. These include: Puzzles: Wordsearch On this slide you have to complete the wordsearch. The words are usually the keywords within the lesson. You can skip this type of slide if you wish.

15 Puzzle Image matching On this slide you have to complete the matching puzzle. You need to match words to pictures within a time limit.

16 Puzzle Sliding puzzle On this slide you have to complete the sliding puzzle. You need to slide the picture tiles to make a complete image within a time limit.

17 Puzzle Jigsaw On this slide you have to complete the jigsaw. You need arrange the picture tiles to make a complete image within a time limit.

18 Puzzle Spelling On this slide you have to spell out a key word. You need drag and drop the letter tiles in the right order to make a complete word within a time limit.

19 Puzzle Definition/word matching On this slide you have to complete the word matching puzzle. You need to match words to their definitions within a time limit.

20 Questions Free text This is a free text slide. Here you will be asked a question and you have to type out your answer in the free text box provided. This is marked by your teacher.

21 Multiple choice questions On this slide you need to answer a multiple choice questions. You select the answer you think is right and you will be instantly told if you got it correct.

22 Drag and drop On this slide you have to complete the drag and drop question. You need to drag the correct answer into the answer slot. You will be instantly told if you got it correct.

23 End of lesson At the end of each lesson you will be shown this final slide. This screen allows you to type what you have learned this lesson, what your strengths are for the lesson and what your weaknesses are. You can share the results of your lesson and your self assessment to your friends, you parents or both. After completing this page you can move onto a new lesson within your learning pathway. For completing a lesson you earn rewards in the form of EDDollars. These can be spent within EDVille (the virtual world area where you can manage your own city and house) and on games. You can also rate lessons by giving them a star rating out of 5.

24 EDDollars (ED$) EDDollars is your virtual currency. You can gain EDDollars by: Answering questions correctly in lessons. Completing lessons. Getting rewarded by your teacher (e.g. for effort). For all the lessons you complete you will earn these EDDollars that you can spend on fun rewards such as: EDLounge games. Object within EDVille EDVille is your virtual city area. Here you can manage your own world and house. You can use your EDDollars to buy new buildings, vehicles and furniture for your house/lounge. As well as EDDollars, completing lessons also gains you time. This is important for EDVille. You have a set amount of time available to you when you are in EDVille. When the timer runs out you won t be able to access EDVill until you complete more lessons to accumulate more time.

25 Independent learning: When you select the independent learning icon you are brought to this page. 1. Topics These level 1 and 2 topic buttons will take you to a list of all the lessons on EDLounge for whatever topic is selected. 2. Search bar Here you can search for a particular topic or lesson. 3. Exams (if applicable) This button will take you to an exam topic list. Here you will be able to choose practice exam papers for various topics. 4. Level 3 lessons This button takes you to a topic list of level 3 lessons which works the same as the level 1 and 2 lists. Library: The library page is looks similar to the independent learning page. You will again be presented with a list of topic areas. The library area is different as in here you can choose to complete pre made lesson pathways for a particular topic or subject rather than single lessons.

26 When you click on a topic area you are brought to the above screen. From here you can choose a topic which contains a pre made pathway of lessons. A selected topic will look like the below image. This shows you a breakdown of the lessons within the topic. You can select to complete this learning pathway.

27 Exams: When you select the exams icon you will be directed to the exam planner as shown below. The exam planner will show you what exams and mock exams you have been set. In this area you can see: 1. Pathway Name This is the name of the exam pathway 2. Teacher Displays which teacher set the exam 3. Started On When you started the exam 4. Deadline When the deadline is for 5. Do this Exam Selecting this column will take you directly to the exam. This looks similar to standard lessons.

28 Revision: Selecting the revision icon will take you to the revision planner as shown below. The revision planner will show you what revision lessons and pathways you have been set. In this area you can see: 1. Pathway Name This is the name of the revision pathway 2. Teacher Displays which teacher set the revision pathway 3. Started On When you started the revision pathway 4. Deadline When the deadline is for 5. Do this Exam Selecting this column will take you directly to the revision pathway. This will contain one or more lessons within the pathway

29 School Pathways: When you select the School Pathways icon you are taken to the personal pathways screen as shown below. Within this area you can see a list of pathways that have been specifically made by your school and have been set to you. In this area you can see: 1. Pathway Name This is the name of the pathway 2. Teacher Displays which teacher set the pathway 3. Started On When you started the pathway 4. Deadline When the deadline is for 5. Do this Exam Selecting this column will take you directly to the pathway. This will contain one or more lessons within the pathway

30 Homework: When you select the independent learning icon you are brought to this page. 1. Pathway Name This shows you the name of the homework pathway. If you select the name you will be shown a breakdown of the lessons within that particular homework pathway that you can then begin to complete. 2. Teacher Displays who set the homework. 3. Started on Shows you if you have started the homework (displays the date of starting) or not. 4. Deadline Displays when the homework is to be completed by. 5. Do homework Selecting this takes you straight to the first lesson within the homework pathway.

31 Career Work: The career work area is a bank of lessons on specific careers such a policeman, fireman, hairdresser etc. Below is the screen you are brought to when you have selected the career work icon. When you select a career category you can choose a specific career lesson to complete (as shown below).

32 Coursework/EDQuals: This area is important to students who are on the EDQuals programme. This is your coursework and assessment area. When you select the icon for coursework you will first be shown this screen. Everyone who is part of the Equals programme will have their own pin code. This pin code is given to you by your teacher and it will allow you to access the coursework/edquals area. Once the pin is entered you will be taken to the below screen. This is the homepage for your EDQuals area. In this area are the following sections: Key dates In this section is a calendar where notes and key dates regarding coursework can be entered (as shown below).

33 Lessons, pathways and progress This section gives a breakdown of your coursework pathways.

34 1. Unit This displays the name of a specific unit within a subject group. 2. Deadline This is states when a unit needs to be completed by. 3. Criteria Selecting this icon will open up a page that specifies the criteria (learning outcomes and assessment criteria) of a particular unit. 4. Briefs Selecting this icon will open up a page that specifies the tasks that need to be completed within a unit. 5. Credits This displays how many credits you can gain from a unit. 6. Assignments This will tell you whether there is an assignment attached to a unit. 7. Supporting materials (if applicable) Selecting this icon will open a pdf handbook that will support you for a particular unit. 8. Predicted grade This displays what grade you are predicted for a unit. 9. Actual grade This displays what grade you are actually getting for a unit. 10. Assessor This tells you who the assessor for a unit is. 11. Submit/re submit This allows you to submit a file for a unit. Submitted coursework This section shows you a history of all the coursework you have submitted.

35 1. Type What the type of submission was. 2. Qualification What qualification the coursework is for. 3. Unit This tells you what unit the coursework is for. 4. Issued When the coursework was issued. 5. Finish When the coursework was completed. 6. Duration How long it took you to complete the coursework. 7. Predicted grade What grade you are predicted for a unit. 8. Actual grade What grade you are actually getting for a unit. 9. See feedback Selecting this will allow you to view any feedback given for a particular coursework submission. Your Checklist This section shows you a complete coursework checklist. 1. Qualification What the qualification is. 2. Deadline When coursework needs to be completed by. 3. Level What the level of the qualification is. 4. Category What category the qualification is.

36 5. Unit The unit of a particular piece of coursework. 6. Criteria Selecting this icon will open up a page that specifies the criteria (learning outcomes and assessment criteria) of a particular unit. 7. Handbook Selecting this icon will open a pdf handbook that will support you for a particular unit. 8. Brief Selecting this icon will open up a page that specifies the tasks that need to be completed within a unit. 9. Issued When the coursework was issued. 10.Issued by Who issued the coursework? The following will have a tick or a cross indicating whether these particular parts are completed or not. 11.Done lesson Have you completed the lessons that are part of a particular unit? 12.Completed and submitted work Have you submitted the coursework required? 13.Completed SMART targets Have you created your own SMART targets? 14.Predicted grade What grade you are predicted for a unit. 15.Grade Are you meeting your grade? 16.Date marked Has your coursework been marked in time? 17.Marked by Has your coursework been marked by someone? 18.Received feedback Have you received feedback for your coursework? 19.Feedback read Have you read your feedback? My courses entered This section shows you what courses your school has entered you in. Below is the list of the courses.

37 When you select a course you will be shown the coursework units that you have completed for it. Comments on your coursework This section will show you grades and feedback that you have received for any submitted coursework.

38 1. Unit/Assignment The name of the unit/assignment. 2. Submitted date When the coursework was submitted. 3. Assessor Who the assessor is. 4. Predicted grade What grade you are predicted for a unit. 5. Grade awarded What grade you were given for a unit. 6. See feedback Selecting this will allow you to view any feedback that was given for a piece of homework. 7. Appeal This allows you to appeal your results. IMPORTANT! This should only be done after talking and agreeing with your teacher. There is the very real possibility that you could appeal against your grade after a re mark and your mark goes down. SMART targets This section allows you to set your own SMART targets for a particular unit. When you select the submit button, for any of the units within this section, you are taken to the below screen.

39 Within this page you will have a number of goal setting questions that you need to answer. You will need to type your answers then click the save button at the bottom of the questions. You will have created your own SMART targets. Save and upload coursework This section is where you can upload coursework to a unit that you are entered in. Below is the page you will see when first entering this section. It shows you a full list of the courses. Clicking into a course will show the units within it. In this you can see if you still need to submit coursework, re submit coursework or if you have missed the coursework deadline (will be shown in red text). On this page you can also see what coursework is waiting to be marked.

40 After selecting to submit coursework the below screen will be displayed.

41 Within this page you will be able to view what files you have submitted for the unit (remember that you submit files for units in the lessons, pathways and progress section of EDQuals). Your student details will also be displayed. After completing the tick boxes and signing this section you can continue to submit/upload your coursework. Account Security In this section you can: 1. Change password Change your account password 2. Review mitigating circumstances This will display if you have any mitigating circumstances that may have impaired you academic performance. You can also submit a mitigating circumstance that will be reviewed. Back to EDLounge This will take you back to your EDLounge student account home page. Logout This will log you out of both EDQuals and EDlounge.

42 Reports: When you select the reports icon you are taken to the below screen. Lesson Results This initial screen displays your lesson results. Within this table you can view: The lesson name. The category type (e.g. personal pathway). The date the lesson was started. The date the lesson was completed. The multiple choice questions (MCQ) percentage mark. The free text (FT) percentage mark. The final grade for a lesson. Any feedback for a lesson. The two other pages on this section are the Learning Pathway Progress and School Progress. Below is the view of these other pages.

43 Learning pathway progress: This area displays your lesson progress. Below is what this looks like. This table shows you the lessons you have done (in green), the lesson you are on (in orange) and lessons you have left to do (in red). School progress: This area displays your overall progress on EDLounge. Within this area you can view: The subject name. The topic name. The year group. The term. The student s teacher. Expected grade for sub topic. Current grade for subtopic (Green = above target, Orange = on target, Red = below target). Assessment type (e.g. exam). Date of completion. Statement.

44 Comments from the teacher. Strengths for the subtopic. Weaknesses for the subtopic. Student achievement. This section will only apply to you if your teacher has set you up on it. If this is green you have completed a set of achievements. This area allows you to view your current progress in various topics and subjects. The graph on this page displays your current progress for each of the subtopics/subjects. This allows you to compare how well you are doing between each subject. Each line is a subtopic. Student achievement Within the school progress page there is the student achievements area. These will have been set by your teacher. Within this area you have mastery statements and student achievement statements. Below is what this screen looks like. You need to complete the student achievements in order to complete the mastery statements. For each student achievement there is a tick box where you can select either:

45 Always Yes No Sometimes Selecting one of these for each achievement statement will tell your teacher whether you can do them or not. Each statement goes towards one or more mastery statements (which only the teacher can change). For each statement you can also add any further details and comments.

46 EDLounge rewards When you select the learning rewards icon you are taken to the below page. This page stores any certificates you may have been awarded (1) in EDLounge as well as keeping a history of any other EDDollar rewards you may have received (2). Selecting a certificate name from the list will download a pdf copy of the certificate for you to view (like the one shown below).

47 Notifications When you select the notifications icon you are brought to the following screen. This page will display a history of your most recent notifications. Selecting a notification will take you to what/where it regards. For example clicking a new certificate notification takes you to the particular certificate in the EDLounge rewards area. Calendar Selecting the calendar icon will bring you to your EDLounge calendar. This is where you can place/view notes and important events (such as homework deadlines and lessons). You can filter the calendar by month, week or day. Below is what this area looks like.

48 Messaging Selecting the messaging icon will bring you to the page shown below. This initial screen lists your received messages. 1. Create message Create a message to send. 2. Sent messages View a history of your sent messages. 3. Subject This indicates what a message is about. 4. From Whom a message is from. 5. Date When a message was sent. 6. Reply This icon allows you to reply to a message. 7. Delete This icon allows you to delete a message. 8. Unread This displays whether a message has been read or not. Icons, buttons and information on the right hand side of the page. 9. Learning wall This button takes you to the learning wall. 10. Friends This button takes you to the friends page. 11. Achievements This button takes you to the achievements page. 12. League tables This button takes you to the leader boards page.

49 13. Social code Here is where your social code is displayed. This is important for adding being added and adding friends. 14. Your friends This is a list of your current friends. From here you can also add new friends by selecting the ADD FRIENDS text. When you select create message you are brought to the below screen. In this area you can message your teachers. Here you can: Choose a staff member to send a message to. Choose a subject type. Write a message. Attach any When you select the sent messages you will be shown a list of all the messages you have previously sent as seen below.

50 Friends: When you select the friends button you are taken to the screen below.

51 At the top of your screen is your personal social code. This is important for when friends want to add you. As you can see if you want to send a friend request you will need to ask for the person's social code. Your friends list is also displayed on this page. From here you can message your current friends, delete friends and block them. Game Achievements: Selecting the game achievements icon will take you to the below screen. From here you can view new game announcements and achievements from your friends. This could include a new high score on a game or a completion of a lesson. You can submit your own posts from here too. You can submit posts after lessons and games which will appear on this page. Learning Achievements: Selecting the learning achievements icon will take you to the below screen.

52 Within this section you can see all of the subjects and sub topic sections that you are entered in for EDLounge. For each sub topic you can add your own achievements. Leader boards/league tables: When you select the leader boards or league tables icon you are brought to the screen on the right. This area displays the leader boards for all of the games within EDLounge. When you select a game you can see who is top of that game. You can filter the list to show the national, school and friends leader boards.

53 Learning Wall: Selecting the learning wall icon will take you to the screen below. Within this area you can view all of the lesson that you have completed on EDLounge. For each lesson you can view: 1. Name of the lesson 2. Star rating of the lesson (out of a possible 5 stars) 3. Star rating comments. You can add an additional comment to the star rating 4. Your strengths for the lesson. These act as a self assessment for the lesson 5. Your weaknesses for the lesson. These also act as a self assessment for the lesson 6. Any further comments you added at the end of a lesson
