While the rate of change continues to increase, one constant remains the need for authentic leaders who create lasting value for the global business community. The William Isaac and Michael Oxley Center for Business Leadership (CBL) at the Farmer School of Business addresses this need by attracting the very best students and preparing them to lead the world s best organizations where market innovators meet market leaders. CBL student Fellows develop and lead initiatives that add value to the CBL and the Farmer School of Business. These hands-on leadership experiences, along with interdisciplinary leadership curriculum, develop graduates ideally positioned to lead the world s best companies, from Silicon Valley to Main Street to Wall Street. Torbeck and Barrett served as Keynotes for the 9th and 10th Annual CBL Conferences, respectively.

3 Today and even more so in the future, the necessity to enhance the leadership capabilities of students is critical. The pace of business, the complexities of the world, and the opportunity of innovation are incredibly challenging but also very exciting. As a result, we must place a necessity that the academic experience is focused on developing the whole person. The Farmer School of Business (FSB) through its classroom education and extra curricular activities, like the Isaac & Oxley Center for Business Leadership, provides a tremendous opportunity to develop the kind of leaders business needs. I am grateful as an executive, an investor and a parent for the outcomes FSB creates. 4 AN IMPORTANT LEGACY Nearly five decades after earning our Miami University degrees, Mike Oxley and I were drawn together again to support an idea we believed would not only be transformational for Miami students but also critically important to the future of our country. That vision is realized in THE WILLIAM ISAAC AND MICHAEL OXLEY CENTER FOR BUSINESS LEADERSHIP (CBL). Throughout our time in public service, Mike and I observed the disturbing ramifications of scandal and short-sighted business practices on our national economy, and we came to a simple conclusion. If we wanted ethical, responsible leaders who understand the importance and potential consequences of their decisions, we shared a responsibility to develop them. In lending our names to this initiative, we recognized the energy, commitment and momentum behind the CBL. It will be a core component of a modernized Farmer School undergraduate experience focused on developing visionary, values-based leaders. Mike was one of the CBL s most passionate supporters from the very beginning, and I know he was deeply proud of the legacy this program creates at Miami a legacy that will be carried on by generations of corporate, government and community leaders across our nation and around the world. I am proud of what Mike and I have helped start with the CBL, but there is much work to be done to fully realize this important vision. I invite you to share in this work by considering investments of your own time, leadership and finances toward this initiative. WILLIAM M. ISAAC 66

5 WILLIAM ISAAC, as a board member and chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) under two U.S. Presidential administrations, provided firm, steady and honorable leadership during the banking and savings and loan crises of the 1980s. His voice continues to carry influence through his testimony before Congress and as an author, media contributor, financial industry consultant and former chairman of Fifth Third Bancorp. MICHAEL OXLEY represented the state of Ohio and his country with honor as a U.S. Congressman for 25 years. As chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, he demonstrated vision, leadership and unwavering integrity at a time when technology was reshaping the business world and scandal threatened free market foundations. Mike passed away in January Isaac and Oxley native sons from Bryan, Ohio, and Findlay, Ohio each served in the Student Senate at Miami and graduated from the College of Law at The Ohio State University.

7 HOW STUDENTS GROW INTO BUSINESS LEADERS ISAAC & OXLEY SPONSORED CBL STUDENT FELLOWS The Isaac & Oxley CBL provides top Farmer School students with funded tangible leadership development experiences through professional interactions and active roles designing and executing Center initiatives i.e., working scholarships. Individuals or organizations can sponsor one or more student fellows to work with faculty and professionals to develop and implement Isaac & Oxley CBL initiatives. CBL Student Fellow and CBL Inclusion Officer Imani Steele ( 19) and CBL Student Fellow Calyn Russo ( 17 now with EY Cleveland) participate in a CBL Buck Rodgers Leadership Lab. 9 ISAAC & OXLEY CBL CURRICULUM Potential Fellows from all majors are identified by their professors, classmates or via self-nomination during their first year at the Farmer School. Selected students are invited to join the Center in their sophomore year. Buck Rodgers Leadership Labs (Sophomore Year) Two intensive lab experiences in which Isaac & Oxley CBL students explore individual leadership styles and team leadership and decision making. Winter Term Immersive Team and Values-Based Strategic Consulting Experience (Junior Year) Isaac & Oxley CBL Fellows travel to various cities where they engage with top business leaders across diverse industries and cultures to help solve actual business challenges. Corporate Governance & Executive Leadership Capstone (Senior Year) Isaac & Oxley CBL Fellows study executive leadership by learning how world-class business leaders execute strategies and foster cultures that create lasting organizational value. I was initially drawn to the Center because of the exceptionally high caliber of students that had worked and participated in their activities. I was impressed by the diversity of events and opportunities to interact with executives, something that I had limited exposure to in the past. What I did not realize was how much I could grow both personally and professionally from my opportunities from the Center and executives.
