1 BECOME A DELEGATE AT THE YOUNG EUROPEAN COUNCIL We are looking for: Young and innovative people: People aged between 18 and 30 are welcome to apply. You need to be able to demonstrate a strong interest in the development of Europe and show an innovative perspective in solving problems. Strategic Thinking It is important to hear key strategic thinking from delegates to create constructive input to the European agendas. The outcome of the YEC should be tangible takeaways that can be implemented promptly by European institutions. Passion The YEC is a people-centered event and participants determine the quality of the outcomes and overall success of the event. We are looking for passionate people who are truly committed to build a better Europe and who will work from day one to achieve outstanding solutions.

2 MORE ABOUT THE YOUNG EUROPEAN COUNCIL When? October Where? Brussels at the European Parliament, Commission and Council of the European Union Who? 100+ young adults from 28 EU Member States and 5 accession countries Bringing together young professionals and students from around Europe in the heart of Brussels, the Young European Council highlights themes central to the development of the continent and important for future generations. Through the sharing of best practices, readings, debate, negotiations, brainstorming, meetings and a new approach to problems, the conference promises to seek out solutions to BUILD EUROPE WHAT TO EXPECT Committee Structure There will be three committees composed of 33 delegates and moderated by the representative of the European Union. Event Format The first part of the event is dedicated to brainstorming and negotiating while the second part consists of gathering feedbacks from international followers and experts. Participants fully experience the city of Brussels and visit the main decision making bodies of the European Union. Eat & Meet Delegates are seated with European leaders and have the chance to informally discuss policies and global issues with them. This is a perfect occasion to discover a career in international relations and be advised from people who were once in your shoes. 3 Education to Employment With high levels of youth unemployment and a shortage of people with critical job skills, too many young people believe that their future is compromised. How can we help governments to develop an effective education system in Europe? Digital Revolution and Technologies The economy is constantly changing and information and communication technology is leading that transformation. How can Europe be in a position to seize the great opportunities ahead? Sustainable Development in Cities Europe is densely populated and 80% of its citizens are likely to live in or near a city by How can Europe solve problems such as poor air quality, high levels of noise, greenhouse gas emissions, water scarcity and waste? Brainstorming: 100 of the brightest and most passionate young people from all over Europe will come together in Brussels to discuss, negotiate, share best practices and learn from each other. The YEC will not only involve debating issues that confront world leaders, but Networking: Participants will extend their network by engaging with like-minded peers who share common aspirations and value international partnerships. The YEC will be a high-level and intergenerational gathering of leaders from business, government and civil society who aspire to create an exceptional network of leaders spanning across Europe. The event is framed as an opportunity to meet and learn from leaders of the European toring time. 5 A strong Europe needs strong Europeans (YEL) is an international nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering young leaders and future decision makers from Europe and beyond. Through engaging events, YEL aims to inspire these leaders from all backgrounds to shape the future of Europe, fostering innovative solutions to local and global challenges. First, YEL forms delegations that attend summits and other international events to give its members the opportunity to speak up and provide critical policy input. One of the responsibilities of YEL is to recruit and train the official delegations of the European Union to the Y8 and Y20 Summits, the official young counterpart to the G8 and G20 Summits. Other events include the European Development Days, the Nuclear Knowledge Summit, the OECD Forum including the exclusive OECD IdeaFactory, the World Bank / IMF Meetings, and the upcoming Social Good Summit. Second, YEL connects future decision makers with each other as well as senior policy makers through its own initiatives. These events are created to facilitate leadership skills, provide professional training, and encourage the development of policy recommendations for young people to shape their own future. Third, YEL connects fellows from around the world within the YEL Society, a platform that brings together students and young professionals who want to create and design the future of global affairs. These international participants take part in organizing virtual debates, facilitating leadership training, sharing knowledge and best practices, and much more. Growth and Aspirations of YEL is based on a 2011 initiative to recruit and train the delegations of the European Union to the Y8 and Y20 Summits. Since then YEL s portfolio has increased dramatically, cooperating with a multitude of international partners in over 20 countries around the world active in youth policy. The development of the organization is met by a steadily rising interest of external stakeholders and fast growing reach online and offline. To meet these increasing expectations YEL s staff has grown continuously, representing young professionals and students from over 15 different nationalities living across 14 time zones. YEL aspires to further its standing as a reliable partner in European and global youth initiatives, to provide greater access to its programs, and to deliver relevant and constructive input at all major conferences shaping the lives of future generations.
