After doing my FOA presentation the most important thing to do is write a reflection which allows me to express my views on my performance and the progress i made in achieving the objective i chose. Even though that i have finished my FOA assignment i still need to understand the purpose of this presentation in a holistic manner. What was the main purpose or the underlying agenda of this presentation?the main purpose according to me was to show the overwhelming importance and impact mass media has in our lives. This assignment shows how easily us humans get influenced by the techniques used by the mass media to portray their message. I further chose another objective which required me to show how mass media influences so many people with the help of language and image.i also think that this FOA greatly helps us to understand the effect of persuasion and propaganda in our day to day lives. I determined to achieve the purpose of understanding how mass media influenced people by choosing a World War II poster out of many other posters. I specifically chose a poster from the World War because the use of language in those posters are very strong and they actually have a scope for analysis.if I chose a poster with a kind of language which is really hard to decode so as to find the underlying meaning then maybe i couldn't have looked into the specific ways as well as the poster i chose. The language in the poster was very delicate as well as as powerful at the same time as it was a poster which was trying to attract men to enlist as soldiers in the war and i am pretty sure that a lot of men did enlist after viewing this propaganda poster as it questioned a man s patriotism and love for his country. The image also caught my eye which was one of the main reasons why i chose this poster. The image can be interpreted in a multitude of ways which can be a good thing from the eye of the analyst. What i believe is that more than language,image has a part to play in convincing the masses.if one views a poster with an uninteresting image then it is likely that he/she would not go further in reading it. So according to me the key to a successful poster is the image s viability and validity to the masses. People should be able to connect with it so as to comprehend the message passed by the creator of the poster. I structured my analysis in such a way that i would be able to go over almost all aspects of the poster. The most important aspects which i had to go through were who was the poster targeting or who was the primary audience, what was the kind of language used so as to convey the message to the masses, what sort of media biases could one identify,what was the layout or the base of imagery used? All these questions helped me structure my analysis and conduct it. Even though i haven't gone over all the aspects of this poster i think i have covered a good deal of them. I believe i didn't quite perform my presentation as well as i thought i would. I was greatly disappointed because I went over the presentation in a hurry and spoke very fast which made my presentation conclude extremely quickly. But overall i think i have made progress in certain ways as i am able to analyse any sort of text,poster or any product of the mass media much better than before.i also think i made a good analysis of the poster itself and covered almost all that was to be analysed. I must improve my presentation skills and analyse deeper into the underlying meaning. I think that this FOA has really helped me look at mass media and propaganda in a different manner and now i have understood most of the techniques used by the mass media to influence the masses which was my primary objective.
