4 SPEAKERS IMAN ABOU-ATTA, DIRECTOR AT TELL MAMA Iman is leading on Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks), where she has been instrumental in the development of the programme and currently focuses on research development and advocacy. Iman is currently also the Deputy Director and Head of Middle East and North Africa Programmes at Faith Matters; where she leads inter-faith, inter-cultural, conflict resolution and anti- extremism and discrimination programme in the Middle East and UK. FRANCESCA DANMOLE, SENIOR POLICY, CAMPAIGNS AND TRAINING OF- FICER AT THE BRITISH YOUTH COUNCIL Francesca Temitope Danmole is passionate about ameliorating systems to ensure that socio-economic challenges do not hinder people from fulfilling their potential. An experienced trainer and facilitator, she is dedicated to seeing people equipped with the skills they need to actively participate in changing their communities. In the last 5 years, Francesca has been instrumental in establishing platforms that allow young people to lobby their governments to improve the quality of and outcomes of education. Francesca works as the Senior Policy, Campaigns and Training Officer at the British Youth Council her role here is take the priorities of young people and turn them into campaigns; to create and secure opportunities for young people to meaningfully engage with decision makers; and to ensure that young people are trained on how to make a difference in areas that matter to them. IFE GRILLO, GRADUATE SCHOOL COORDINATOR AT DEBATE MATE Debate Mate aims to use debating to tackle educational disadvantage. It does this by recruiting, training and placing university students to run extra-curricular debate workshops in schools. Ife Grillo represented England and won the World Debating Championships and now teaches debating in the UK and across the world in order to empower students to find their voice. NUSRATH HASSAN, STUDENT AT SOAS, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON Nusrath Hassan recently graduated from Mulberry School for Girls where she served as Deputy Head Girl and Secretary-General at Global Classrooms London MUN. As a gifted public speaker, she has represented the school and her peers on a local, national and international level where she has spoken about issues such as feminism and human rights, and most notably in 2015 when she hosted Michelle Obama's visit to Mulberry for the launch of the Let Girls Learn 4

5 campaign. Nusrath now studies Law at SOAS, University of London. For her efforts, she has recently been awarded 'Young Star' at the Women of the Future Awards (2016). ANNA HORSBRUGH-PORTER, TEACHER AT MULBERRY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS Before training to be a teacher (ongoing), Anna has worked as a writer and journalist for the BBC World Service, making programmes around the world, including three years based in Sri Lanka reporting for the BBC. She has published three books, including Created Equal a history of global women s rights. FARZANA KHAN, CO-ORDINATOR AT SHAKE Farzana Khan is the Project Coordinator of Voices that Shake! since She works at Platform, an arts and social justice organisation. She has a 12- year background in youth and community work particularly focused on artsbased social justice projects both in the UK and internationally. Farzana's academic focus has been on radical and transformative education. She has been recently been made a fellow by the International Curatorial Forum, her areas of work and personal commitment are gender and racial justice, transforming harm & violence and community healing and repair. ADAM MATAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR AT THE ANTI-TRIBALISM MOVE- MENT The Anti-Tribalism Movement is a non-profit organisation aimed at educating and raising awareness about the effects of tribalism within communities. The ATM's vision and track record is based on a cohesive and dynamic society where every person s opinion is valued regardless of clan, gender or political belief. ANNIE ZAIDI, FA BAME ELITE COACH MENTEE If you haven't heard of Annie Zaidi yet, then trust us when we say it is only a matter of time. Having already won Hellen Rollason Award for Inspiration at 2015 Sky SportsWomen Award, been named independent 50 most influential women In sport. Annie is already making huge waves. Did we mention that she was also invited to be a panellist at 2016 FIFA Women's Conference held in Zurich & she was named in The Queens New Year Honour List 2017 for her services in Football Coaching. Ironically really as she says that she doesn't really feel like she has done anything yet. 5

6 WORKSHOPS #BEYONDTHEHEADSCARF TANYA, TASNIA & SANJIDA, INSPIRE US Young, Female and Muslim. A campaign to separate fact from fiction in the representation of Muslims in the media. We will be taking a critical look at the mainstream media portrayal of young British Muslims and providing real life narratives from those that we know, including ourselves, to debunk myths and preconceived ideas. We will also be sharing our social media campaign, in order to establish new networks around the country, so our counter narrative can gain momentum. BUILDING BRIDGES NOT WALLS IMAN ABOU-ATTA, TELL MAMA An interactive workshop empowering young people to tackle hatred and prejudice. CAN FASHION EVER BE ETHICAL? SARAH KLYMKIW, TRAID Exploring the journey of our clothing from cotton farm to the high street we ll discuss the social and environmental cost our fashion choices can have and the solutions to making a fashion industry free from exploitation. DISRUPTIVE LEADERS RACHAEL GIBBONS, RECLAIM PROJECT 19 Prime Ministers went to Eton, but not one came from Tower Hamlets The workshop will focus on working class young people as more than a single story. Critically thinking about the realities of the world for working class young people in Tower Hamlets, we will look to build strengths-based stories to challenge the negative stereotype of young people. We will look at how the key to recent global challenges is becoming disruptive leaders going against the status quo to ensure a more both, ethical and hopeful leadership rhetoric for a fair and just society. DON T JUDGE DON T LABEL ADAM MATAN, THE ANTI TRIBALISM MOVEMENT This innovative campaign aims to break down prejudice, stereotypes, hate crimes, unfair judgment, and labelling. We are all defined by labels, some that we accept others we reject. With labels comes expectations and fears that we fight 6

7 against. The Anti-Tribalism Movement is aimed at erasing these labels and revealing people in their individuality, but also to bring out our common humanity. FIRST RESPONSE: HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND TO THE THREAT OF TER- RORISM? JEN HALMSHAW, SINCE 9/11 Almost every day in the news, we see tragic stories of terrorist attacks, and of political tensions that arise when governments take action in the name of national security. This workshop is designed to give young people a platform to debate the difficult issues that surround terrorist events. In particular, this session will create an opportunity to consider the tricky balance between the personal freedoms we enjoy in society, and the actions governments should take to protect society. This workshop will split the class into four groups, each responding in the aftermath of a fictitious terrorist attack. We will invite teams of young people to discuss the issues from the points of view of: the emergency services, the families, the government and the rest of the world. Each team will consider the situation, how their groups fit into the overall event, and how they would react if they were in their position. The first part of the session will culminate in a mock press conference in which the class members will be invited to assume the characters of the above groups. At the end of the session, students will be asked to create a five-point plan for a more cohesive future. You ll have an opportunity to first of all come up with your demands and ideas for a People s Manifesto and then we ll each you the different ways - running in elections, protest, media, creative actions- you can ensure your voice is heard. INTERFAITH SKILLS GEORGINA BEDNAR, THREE FAITHS FORUM (3FF) This workshop introduces the themes of diversity and interfaith, exploring what values and behaviours will help us build positive relations with people who are 7

Through interactive reflection activities students will deepen their understanding of themselves and their classmates, as well as gaining practical tools for dialogue and building empathy with those who are different from themselves. REFUGEES, MIGRANTS AND ASYLUM SEB ROUNDS, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL UK There are now more refugees globally than ever before in history. Despite this, many of the world s wealthiest nations host the fewest refugees. Even within Europe, the UK has one of the poorest records for resettlement. This workshop will look at some of the root causes of this problem and what more can be done. SEND MY FRIEND TO SCHOOL JOHN MCLAVERTY & AISHAH SIDDIQA, OXFAM GB In 2015 world leaders promised a quality lifelong education to every child in the world. But one important thing is missing, the money to pay for it. In a world where 8 billionaires own the same wealth as the poorest 3.6 billion people, there are still 263 million children missing out on school and millions more finish school unable to read and write. This workshop explores the state of the world s schools in It suggests how young people can join a global movement and lead action to make a difference. (Presented in partnership with GCE UK) THE SECRETS OF AUSCHWITZ, MYESHA HAQUE & TASNIM BASIT, MULBERRY SCHOOL This workshop will explore the ways in which we can promote the remembrance of the Holocaust and how we should endeavour to rehumanise those who suffered during this historic event, as well as strive to achieve justice peace and equality for all. STEP FORWARD REBECCA CLEMENT, COUNSELLOR AND WELLBEING WORKER This workshop will provide an overview of the current climate of mental health in England and aims to promote mental health awareness and encourage and explore peer support. Step Forward will provide tools to help manage or prevent mental health related difficulties, including a mindfulness exercise, and sign posts to services for advice and professional support. 8
