5 1. Home Application - Usage Home Application is software that a student can install in his/her own machine. It encompasses all features of ICR such as view and play multimedia contents, view lesson plan, web links, glossary. Using this application student or parent can create assessment paper and attempt it on his/her local machine. This application also provides reports to view score of assessment. This application works offline as well as online mode. To understand complete functionality of this application follows the steps given below. To Install follow the steps given in Installation Manual. a. Accessing Application To access application, follow the steps given below i. Application can be accessed by clicking on desktop icon. ii. 6 iii. User can enter Student or Parent s login id. Enter user name and password. Click on Login. iv. User gets applications main page. NIIT Ltd Page 6

Features Multimedia - Content Home Lesson Plan Glossary Web links Digital Library Assessment Quiz Back Next Interact Automate Topics Replay Audio On/Off Pause The core concept is covered by using multimedia, including animations and video. It provides richness of content gives the required challenge to the student and engages the student in his/her understanding. It also helps learners visualize abstract concepts by adding a visual element to the learning that enhances retention. NIIT Ltd Page 13

14 Automate Next Audio on/off Replay Previous The Automate feature provides alternate animations for a concept, which gives a different approach to the same concept. This feature is also an option for individuals who are not yet comfortable enough with the technology to use the Interact feature, which requires the user to be familiar with the use of a mouse. The Automate link opens a new window. The module is a pre-planned delivery of an aspect of the Interact module. In case there are multiple aspects, a menu will be provided. Click the menu option to access the module. NIIT Ltd Page 14

15 Other features of Automate: The Automate modules are supported by audio that can be toggled on or off by using the Sound button. If an Automate module has more than one example, then the user can go back to the list of examples by using the Home button. The entire sequence of explaining the example has been split into steps. These steps can be navigated by the use of the Next and Previous buttons. Any step can be replayed by using the Replay button. 16 3D (Interactive Three Dimensional Content) Some of the concepts lend to three-dimensional (3D) modeling. Links to interactive 3D models can be found across the selected Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry concepts or they embedded as part of the core content. Click on3dbutton. NIIT Ltd Page 16

20 Interact Message area Instructions area Reset Button The Interact feature allows teachers and students to interact with the content, thereby enabling them to experience the cause and effect. It provides tremendous flexibility in the teaching-learning process as well as in the choice of examples and approaches to the concept. This feature also makes the learning process livelier with active learner participation, and for the teacher, an easy way to demonstrate the concepts in action. As a result, the learners shift away from the rote method by making learning interactive. This tool helps in encouraging peer learning, making abstract concepts concrete with more visual explanation and giving the students the power to explore and learn. It empowers teachers to address student s curiosity and attention span and also to encourage novice scientific thinkers. NIIT Ltd Page 20

21 The Interact link opens an interactive module or a java applet in a new window. Depending on the concept, a set of variable parameters are made available to interact with the content to create causes and effects. It will help in clarifying different aspects of the concept. 22 Apply In some concepts, the links to ready-made interactive Geometer Sketchpad sketches exist. These sketches help the teacher in apply the concept. The sketches are linked to the respective content by the Apply link. The instructions to use the interactivity built in the sketch will be available in the sketch. The Apply feature is similar to the Interact feature. In addition to providing the benefits of interactivity, the Apply feature allows users to customize the content as they wish. Using the Geometer s Sketchpad, users can quickly and easily construct concepts by creating their own diagrams and interactions. Note: Geometer s Sketchpad software needs to be installed on the computer to run this feature. (The Geometer s Sketchpad software is part of installer and should get automatically install with installation.) NIIT Ltd Page 22

23 d. Lesson Plan Lesson Plan contains features, as mentioned below: A. Getting Started i. Objectives: A list of the objectives to be accomplished for a particular concept. ii. iii. iv. Introduction: A background of the concept, detailing why the concept is important for students to learn, thus setting the context for learning. Summary: A recapitulation of what has been learnt in the topic. References: Additional reference materials on the topic that the teachers and students can refer to. NIIT Ltd Page 23

24 B. Assessments - i. Questions for Evaluation: Enable teachers to gauge the level of understanding of the class ii. Challenging Problems: Provide opportunities to engage bright students to further their learning iii. Reinforcement: Lists a set of questions that the teacher can ask the students to reinforce their understanding of the concept C. Curiosity Corner - i. Fascinating Facts: Provides trivia or interesting facts about the topic being learnt. ii. Frequently Asked Questions: Contains standard questions that keep coming up from students while learning a topic. iii. Misconception and Exceptions: Captures the most common exceptions and misconceptions for each concept, which makes the learning complete. D. Explore - i. Real-Life Applications: Is used to connect the learning to life outside the classroom. ii. Activities: Details some activities that students can undertake on their own or that can be taken up in the class. 25 e. Glossary Alphabet access List of words Word s explanation Glossary contains a list of technical terms with their brief definitions and has been collated. This provides learners as well as teachers an easy access to the relevant term. On clicking the Glossary link, a new window opens. Clicking each word button displays the meaning or definition of that word in the bottom panel. A word can alternatively be accessed from the Alphabet menu at the top. NIIT Ltd Page 25

Web Links Web links are additional resources wherein the students and teachers are provided with a library of Web links to sites with content and resources directly mapped to the school curriculum. Salient features of Web links: A list of Web site links identified for the concepts that are available. The salient Benefits of the Web site are displayed on the right-top panel. The Features available on the site are identified on the right-bottom panel. A teacher can do Rating of web links. Web links get displayed as selforganizing links. Most admired links appears at the top. The link provides access to the Web site. Clicking the Web link opens a new window. 27 g. Digital Library Digital Library is the repository of subject resources. Resources can be presentations, word documents, image files, etc. This repository can also include images of your writing on the Interactive whiteboard, captured and saved for future use. Digital Library is divided into two categories: i. School Resources: These are the resources which are uploaded by the school student or parent. These resources are visible in My Resources area as shown in the image given below. Once uploaded, a resource will be available only in the respective class, subject and chapter. ii. These are some basic and important resources provided by the application to enhance the student knowledge and provide new ideas to student or parent also. 28 To upload content, follow these steps: a. Click the Upload Content button as mentioned above. The following screen appears. b. To find the file that you want to upload, click the Browse button. c. A dialog box appears. Browse and select the file to be uploaded. (File size should not be more than 10 MB.). d. Click the Open button. NIIT Ltd Page 28

29 e. Next, Give the Topic name and Description. f. Click the Upload button. Wait until the file is uploaded. NIIT Ltd Page 29

30 g. Following screen appears if upload is successful. If you want to upload more resources then click Browse link else click Close button. Note: While uploading the file, you may get following message: Check the file size you are trying to upload, and make sure it is less than or equal to10 MB. NIIT Ltd Page 30

31 To view uploaded content, follow these steps: a. A list of school contributed resources appears under School Resources area. If you find only the Upload Your Content button, it means that no contributed resources are available for the chapter. b. To view content, click the link given under Title Heading. NIIT Ltd Page 31

33 h. Dynamic Quiz Let s Play Dynamic Quiz is fun based Quiz. It picks up & displays Multiple Choice questions which are dynamically picked up from question bank. Questions are picked up from the selected chapter. Parent can use this module to get an understanding of student s knowledge for the respective topics. Student can also play quiz to test their memory and understanding skills. This module can be accessed through two different logins. a. Parent b. Student Follow the steps to play this quiz 1. System must be connected to internet. 2. Click on Quiz tab. 3. User is redirected web portal Quiz screen. 4. Select the topics by clicking on the checkbox available in front of topic. Questions would be picked up from selected topics only. Click Start Quiz button to play the quiz. NIIT Ltd Page 33

35 How to play?? Question appears on the basis of selected topics. Let s see and understand different component of this module. 1. Quiz Screen Components: Question Question Solution Hint Answe r Following are the Quiz screen components: Question Counter: It shows the current question number and total number of available questions in the quiz. Question: It contains the text of the Question. Answer Options: It contains available options for an answer. Solution Hint: This is a hint to the user to answer the question. Hints may be available only in few of the questions. Skip: User may skip the question if required. NIIT Ltd Page 35

36 2. To provide an answer to a question, User has to click on top of any one of the available options. 3. If answer is correct then Background color of the option changes to green. You would hear a sound clip saying That s Correct. Rest of the options gets disabled. Skip button changes to the Next button. Explanation of the answer gets displayed below the next button. 37 4. If answer is wrong then Background color of the option changes to red. An audio saying Oops, That s incorrect plays. That s Incorrect!! gets displayed below the skip button. Note: User can attempt the same question multiple times. NIIT Ltd Page 37

38 5. End Quiz button displays at the bottom once user reaches to the last question. User can click on End Quiz button to end the quiz. 6. It redirects the user to the start page of the quiz. User can start quiz all over again NIIT Ltd Page 38

39 i. Assessment How to Create? Follow the steps to create an Assessment 1. Click on Assessment tab. 2. Following window appears. Click on Create Assessment. NIIT Ltd Page 39

41 6. There are two types of Paper that student can generate: a. Static Paper Generation. b. Dynamic Paper Generation or Smart Assessment. a) To generate static paper follows the steps given below: i. Select Manual from Question Selection Criteria option buttons. ii. Select the Question Type. Options available are Objective and Subjective. iii. Select Level of Difficulty, Type and Marks. iv. Enter Instruction, Paper Title and Time Duration for the Paper. v. 44 x. Click on Submit button to generate a paper. xi. xii. Paper will be created. Student can download this Paper in Student Home device application after 10 mins. b) To generate dynamic paper follow the steps given below i. Select Dynamic from Paper Generation Criteria option buttons. ii. Select Question Type, options available is Objective and Subjective. iii. Select Level of Difficulty and Type. iv. Select topic by selecting checkboxes in front of each topics. v. Enter Instructions, Paper Title and Time Duration. vi. Select paper availability From and To Date. NIIT Ltd Page 44

45 vii. Select Next. Following window appears. viii. Enter the no of questions in Required Questions textbox. Click on Generate. Following window appears. NIIT Ltd Page 45

47 j. Assessment Download Once Assessment is created, parent or student can download Assessment using Student Home Application and attempt the paper in his/her local machine. Paper can be downloaded after 15 mins of paper creation. To download assessment, follow the steps given below i. Click on Assessment on home page. NIIT Ltd Page 47

49 k. Objective Test Once paper is downloaded, student or parent can give test using test engine available in student home application. To give objective test, follow the steps given below i. Click on Content on home page. NIIT Ltd Page 49

53 viii. The test gets evaluated. A result screen appears immediately after submission. It shows student marks with few other details. It also shows a link to the answer sheet which gives a detailed view of how student has performed in the test along with correct solution for each question. 55 l. Subjective Test Parent or student can also create and download subjective paper. Once subjective paper is downloaded, student or parent can view or print the paper. Student can write answer of subjective paper in his\her notebook and submit it to parent. Parent can compare the answers submitted by student with the solution given in student home application to him. Parent can give marks to the student using student home application. To view or print paper by parent follow the steps given below. i. Login to student home application using Parent login name and password. ii. Following window appears. 64 2. Reports There are two types of reports 1. Offline Reports These reports can be seen even if machine is not connected with internet. It shows Summary of assessment items and Usage Reports. It shows reports out of data which is not yet synched or replicated to portal.. 2. Online Reports You need to be connected to internet to see consolidated Assessment and Usage Data Report. To see reports, follow the steps given below 1. Login as Parent or student. 2. Following window appears. NIIT Ltd Page 64

67 6. Usage Reports is another offline report. If you want to view Actual Content Usage duration, then click on Usage Reports. 7. Following window appears. NIIT Ltd Page 67

68 8. View Consolidated Assessment Reports is one of the online report for which internet connection is required. It automatically takes you to the web interface and displays all the assessments given till date. It would show all assessment that user would have given in school or home PC. Click on View Consolidated Assessment Reports to see them. 9. User will redirected to online web portal where he/she can see consolidated Assessment reports. NIIT Ltd Page 68

69 10. Another Online report is View Consolidated Content Usage Report. Click to see the details. 11. User will redirected to online web portal where he/she can see consolidated Content usage reports. 70 3. Parent Registration To register a Parent, follow the steps given below 1. Go to Web Portal 2. Click on Parent Sign Up link given on the page. 3. It shows Parent Registration Form. NIIT Ltd Page 70

71 4. Fill in the required details like School Code, Student Login Name and Student Password. You would have got this information from school in a printed information sheet which says ICR Student Registration Details. It should have been given to student/parent along with the installer media by the school. Click on Validate to check weather entered information is as per student s registered information? 5. If information is valid, then parent can enter his registration information including new user name and password required for the web portal. Click on Submit. NIIT Ltd Page 71

Web Links Web links are additional resources wherein the students and teachers are provided with a library of Web links to sites with content and resources directly mapped to the school curriculum. Salient features of Web links: Rating Panel A list of Web site links identified for the concepts that are available. The salient Benefits of the Web site are displayed on the right-top panel. The Features available on the site are identified on the right-bottom panel. A teacher can do Rating of web links. Web links get displayed as self-organizing links. 80 Web links are divided into two categories: 1. Standard Web links: These links are provided as a part of Nguru ICR application. The links have been identified by a network of teachers familiar with the school syllabus and who directly contribute to the learning process. Many of the sites go beyond the curriculum, giving students a chance to explore and learn more. Standard web links can t be added/modified/deleted at school level. 2. Custom Web Links: These are the links - which are added by the school teacher in the school ICR server. In case if teacher knows an important web link which is not part of the application then it can be added into application at school itself. So this is another collaborative feature of the application which allows knowledge sharing across school teachers. Once added this link would be visible to all the school teachers. Custom Web links can be deleted/modified at school by the owner teacher who has created it. Web Links How to ADD? :- 1. Click Add Web link icon available on the bottom of the web link page as shown below. NIIT Ltd Page 80

81 2. Following screen appears. 3. Enter the web link in the text box as shown below. Web link should always start with or or ftp: // NIIT Ltd Page 81

82 4. Enter the description of the web link in the text area as shown below. Teacher can enter the description up to 400 characters only. 5. Enter Keywords in the text area as shown below. All keywords that user enter must be comma separated. These keywords will help user in searching their own created web links later on. So keywords should be important concepts which are getting addressed with the web link being entered. 6. Select the relevant features which are available in web link. 87 Web Links How to Rate? :- Rating flags are available in the front of every web link. 1. Green flag is used to rate positive and red flag is used to rate negative. -To Rate Positive - To Rate Negative 2. A teacher can click on any of the two flags to rate a web link. 3. A teacher can rate a web link only once. 4. Web links are ordered in a list according to their positive rating from top to bottom and they are self-organizing. 88 d. Digital Library Digital Library is the repository of subject resources. To provide an answer to a question, User has to click on top of any one of the available options. 9. If answer is correct then Background color of the option changes to green.
