The choices you make this year will be some of the most important decisions so far. Ask yourself some simple questions Do you want to enter the workforce right away? Do you want to continue your education? Are you interested in military training? December 1st Warren December 18th FAFSA Warren December 24th Jan 4th Winter Break January 1st FAFSA available online CREATING A LESS STRESSFUL SENIOR YEAR Be Organized! Keep copies of recommendations, applications and essays. Use the checklist provided in your senior guidebook to keep track of the college application process. Make sure you meet the college deadlines. Study! Do not develop senioritis early in the school year and fall behind in your classes. It is important to develop good study habits for college. For study tips go to Manage your time! Senior year is a very busy time. You may be working, participating in extra- curricular activities or studying. Make sure you keep up with college admission and scholarships deadlines.

2 Page 2 Applying for Scholarships How do you recognize a legitimate scholarship service? Does not guarantee you will win an award Should not charge you a fee Makes contact information readily available How do you prepare? Be organized. Keep scholarships you are working on in a separate folder from those you have not started. Use a calendar to keep track of dates and deadlines. Prioritize applications complete the easiest scholarships first, then focus on the scholarships that require more time. What do judges look for? Make sure you meet the qualifications of the scholarship. Judges like a well presented application so type your essay Include all required documents like academic transcripts, letters of recommendation and test scores. Make sure you answer all the questions on the application. Submit you applications! You will not receive a scholarship without applying. Check out scholarships at Check out the counseling website! Texas Common Application The Texas Common Application was created to help make applying to Texas public 4 year universities and 2 year colleges easier. It is recommended that you apply on-line at You may use one application to apply to more than one university! Transcripts Seniors will need a copies of transcripts for college and scholarship applications. After you received the first free transcript, a $2.00 fee will be charged for each requested transcript. This fee must be paid when ordering your transcript in the registrars office. The registrars office will not mail transcripts, please allow for extra time to order and then pick up copies.
