1 Tertiary Education Scholarship Programme 2018 FOR 2019 ACADEMIC YEAR GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION FORM Scholarship Value: $2,500 Application Opening Date: 1 June 2018 Application Closing Date: 6 July 2018 (5pm deadline) Background Central Lakes Trust (CLT) currently offers Tertiary Education Scholarships annually to the five High Schools in its region; Wakatipu and Dunstan High Schools, Mount Aspiring and Cromwell Colleges and Roxburgh Area School. It is at the discretion and judgement of each Principal of these schools to determine, based on guidelines and agreed criteria, the student(s) they wish to select for a Tertiary Education Scholarship awarded by Central Lakes Trust. These applications are to be forwarded directly to the relevant Central Lakes Trust regional based school for consideration. The allocation of the number of scholarships to be awarded at the five High Schools in the Central Lakes Trust region is based on the school s eligible Year 13 roll. An additional pool of funds is available to students who come from the Central Lakes Trust region, who attend a school outside the region but within New Zealand, or who are home schooled within the Central Lakes Trust region. These applications are to be forwarded directly to Central Lakes Trust for consideration, whereby Central Lakes Trust may be required to liaise directly with the relevant personnel from the applicants school. Scholarships are for individuals wishing to commence their first-year of full-time tertiary study following Year 13, to further their education in 2019, or 2020 after a GAP year, either in New Zealand or overseas.
2 Eligibility Criteria Central Lakes Trust Eligibility Map To be eligible for a CLT Tertiary Education Scholarship a student must be: 1. A New Zealand citizen 2. Be between years of age, and currently in Year 13 (see notes below) and Either; Have been primarily and currently residing inside the CLT region since 1 January 2017 and fit into one of these two categories: Currently studying at a Secondary School in the CLT region or being home schooled in the CLT region; Currently studying and boarding at a school hostel (or private boarding) in NZ but outside the CLT region and have done so since 1 January Or Come from outside the CLT region and attend a boarding school inside the CLT region and have resided at that boarding school for a minimum of four years as at 1st January Planning to commence their first year of full-time tertiary study at a University, Polytechnic, Institute of Technology or NZQA registered tertiary institution in New Zealand. Central Lakes Trust will consider any applications for overseas study on a case by case basis. Please note: Students planning to take a GAP yea r in 2019, must apply for a CLT Scholarship in 2018 during their Year 13. If awarded, they can take up the scholarship in the 2020 academic year, but not beyond. Home schooled students should contact CLT prior to applying to discuss their specific circumstances and to see what is required by way of academic records and references. Students planning to apply for Discretionary Entrance during Year 12 can apply to CLT in Year 12. However, if a scholarship is awarded, but Discretionary Entrance is denied, then the CLT scholarship would be cancelled, and they would need to re-apply the following year. CLT scholarships relate to year 1 of tertiary study only. Students can receive or apply for other Scholarships/Awards at the same time as a CLT scholarship. The New Zealand Government s Fees Free Scheme does not impact on eligibility to apply for a CLT scholarship. If a Secondary School Principal, Teacher or Staff Member has a child who is applying for a CLT scholarship, that person must exclude themselves from any involvement or decision-making to avoid any conflict of interest. Eligibility Restrictions - those; with Permanent Residency status, currently on a GAP year, who have already undertaken full or part-time study at a tertiary institution, whose parents own a holiday home (rather than residing) in the region, with criminal convictions (being an offence that had a maximum penalty of imprisonment as a possible outcome), and international fee-paying students are ineligible to apply. If you are unsure about eligibility, then please contact the CLT office on or to discuss. -2-
