2 About The Law University The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, (TNDALU), Chennai, India was established in the year 1997, (Act No. 43 of 1997) by the Government of Tamil Nadu and it was inaugurated by the then Indian President His Excellency Shri K. R. Narayanan. The Law University, offers legal education on its campus and through its affiliated Law Colleges which consists of the seven Government Law Colleges and one private Law College, located within the State of Tamil Nadu. The University is located in the heart of the city of Chennai, and it is well connected by roadways, railways and airways. The School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), is situated within its campus at No. 5, Poompozhil, Dr. D. G. S. Dinakaran Salai. Under the broad canopy of SOEL, the Law University is offering Five Years integrated B.A. LL.B (Hon s), and B.Com. LL.B., (Hon's) B.B.A LL.B, (Hon s) B.C.A. LL.B (Hon s) and Three Years LL.B. (Hon s) as part of its Under Graduate Courses and LL.M., Degrees in 9 branches as part of its Post Graduate Courses. The Research wing is offering Ph. D. in Law and Inter Disciplinary studies both Full time and Part-time. The Department of Distance Education (DDE) is presently offering 11P.G. Diplomas and a Certificate Course in addition to one Master of Corporate Law Course (MCL). At present, there are 10 departments in SOEL having 34 well qualified and experienced faculty members catering to the academic needs of the students pursuing different courses that are offered. The University is striving to offer quality legal education under the guidance and stewardship of our Hon ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. P. Vanangamudi. About the Course Research being a logical and systematic search for new and useful information and a mode of searching for the hidden truths on a particular subject or topic, it gives an advance understanding to the existing knowledge. There are different ways to do research. The Course is designed to offer the practical guidelines for research in Law and Inter disciplinary studies. It is designed to coach the participants through all the stages of research from identifying a viable research problem till the techniques of report writing. It also emphasizes on the variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods used in law and Inter Disciplinary with particular emphasis on the implementation of these methods using SPSS software packages. In the process of planning the research, more emphasis needs to be on its quality than on the quantity. Quality of research depends upon mode of investigation and finding the solution to the problems through the objective and systematic analysis. Research has to be an active, objective, diligent and systematic process of inquiry for discovering, interpreting or revising the facts, events, habits and theories. Thus, proper approach and designing the appropriate methodology is important for improving the quality of the research, as the research methodology differs from one research problem to that of the other.

3 Objective of the Course Considering the above said needs the broader objective of the Course is to enable the participants in enhancing the quality of the research via learning the methodology To identify the viable research problem, design and tools for the research; To acquaint the methods and tools of data collection; To strengthen the ability to frame, formulate and test the hypothesis; To develop the understanding of the basic concepts of the quantitative and qualitative data analysis and interpretation and evaluating the results of data analysis; To learn the mechanics of writing research report, research paper, publishing and selecting journals; To provide Hands-on working with SPSS Statistics package. Eligible Criteria for the participants All the registered Ph. D Full Time /Part Time Research Scholars of The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University are eligible to apply for the course. The faculty members working in SOEL who are required to comply with the eligibility component of CAS, are also entitled to participate in this course, with their individual declaration on the said fact. Accommodation and travel Allowance No T.A./D.A. or accommodation will be provided to the participants by the Institution. The participants are required to make their own convenient arrangements. Attendance is compulsory in all the sessions of this short term course for the participants to be eligible for the course completion certificate. The participants are required to bring their Laptop for the practical Sessions. Duration and venue of the Course The Short Term Course will be conducted from 17 th 23 rd February 2016 at Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai
