1 2018 Academic Year(April Matriculation) Kurume University Intensive Japanese Course (Ryugakusei Bekka) Requirements for Application Residents Outside of Japan Intensive Japanese Course (Ryugakusei Bekka) This course is for the instruction of students in Japanese Language and Japanese culture for those who wish to matriculate to Japanese Universities or graduate schools (In particular, Kurume University faculties of Languages and Literature, Law, Economics, Commerce and their affiliated graduate schools. The length of study is either one year or one year and a half, with matriculation in April or in the Fall semester. 1. Number of Acceptees One year course: 15 students (including Fall semester entrees and domestic entrance examinees) Eighteen month course: 20 students (including Fall semester entrants and domestic entrance examinees) 2. Requirements for Application (1)Applicants must hold foreign citizenship and meet the conditions below. 1They must have received 12 years of formal education in their home country. (The equivalent of Japanese compulsory education [6 years, primary, 3 years junior high school, 3 years high school] by the time of acceptance. 2For Kurume University, those who meet the requirements outlined in (1)- 1 or equivalent must have reached 18 years of age by April 1 st, (2)Applicants must have passed level N5 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Tests sponsored by The Japan Foundation / Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) Applicants who have studied with another Japanese language institute for one year after arriving in Japan are ineligible for application. Please note that when the applicant has not obtained 12 years of formal education, Kurume University will not accept the application. For further details, contact Kurume University Entrance Examination Center. 3.Dates for Submission of Application Documents and Test Schedule Application Period Notification of test results Foreign Residents Received between September 1 st, 2017 (Fri.) ~ September 29 th (Fri.) October 20 th (Fri.) Those who reside in China should submit their application to Kurume University Beijing Educational Exchange Center in Beijing by Friday, September 29 th. Depending on international and domestic situations the entrance examination may be cancelled.

2 4. Application Process The applicant should prepare the following documents and submit them to Kurume University Entrance Examination Center by Friday, September 29 th. Applications are not accepted on Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays. Those who reside in China should submit their application to Beijing Educational Exchange Center 5.Application Documents Original documents are required for all certification unless otherwise noted. 1 Documents to be submitted and pertinent conditions. Entrance Examination Application Form (Kurume University form) The applicant must fill out the form in her/his own handwriting. Paste a recent hatless front-facing picture taken within 3 months prior to application, in the space provided. (h. 4cm x w. 3cm) Resume (Kurume University Form) Filled in by applicant, in his/her own handwriting Required Documents In the educational background section, include school name, governing body, dates of entrance and transfer. Where not possible to enter in the space provided, please attach a detailed description of your educational experience to the form (the same applies to the work experience section. Fill out the form in complete detail, leaving no blanks. Reason for Application (Kurume University form) The applicant must fill out the form in her/his own handwriting. Questionnaire (Kurume University form) The applicant must fill out the form in his/her own handwriting. Letter of Guarantee (Kurume University form) To be filled out by the sponsor or the guarantor of expenses. Financial sponsorship is limited to parents or the guarantor of expenses. Proof of Residence in Japan Pledge (Kurume University form) To be filled out by Sponsor In principle, the sponsor in Japan must reside in Fukuoka Prefecture or an adjacent area, and be prepared to cover any and all debts incurred by the applicant. Students are ineligible for sponsorship. Certificate or Diploma of Graduation(Including anticipated) from High School and the Last School Attended. In the case where the applicant has graduated from a school in China, in lieu of a diploma, you must provide copies of all pages of your graduation certificate of your high school or last school attended, including the front and back covers of the folder. This must be accompanied by a notarized certificate of verification. Also attach a Japanese translation of these documents. (Kurume U. does not designate a translator.) 3 8 9 Official Transcripts from High School and the Last School Attended. Transcripts must include all semesters attended. We will not accept transcripts that only indicate grades for graduation or only test scores. Applicants who attended multiple schools or have transferred, must include transcripts from all schools attended in the respective languages. Also attach a Japanese translation of these documents. (Kurume U. does not designate a translator) Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency Please submit a score report from one of the following: Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) The Test of Practical Japanese (J.TEST) The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU sponsored by JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) Grade report from a certified Japanese language educational institution. 10 Entrance Examination Authorization (Kurume University form) Paste a recent hatless front-facing picture taken within 3 months prior to application, in the space provided. (h. 4cm x w. 3cm) (Write the applicants name and nationality on the back of the picture) Receipt of payment of entrance examination fee. (Kurume University form) A receipt of the bank wire transfer must be pasted to the form.. Once submitted, the entrance examination fee is non-refundable. Address card (Kurume University form) x 3 Forms to be filled out with name, address and contact information. Passport Submit a copy of all pages of your passport including front and back cover. Financial Guarantee (Kurume University form) To be filled out by the financial guarantor of the applicant. Certification of Finances The financial sponsor must provide details of his/her current bank account balance and a copy of their bank book (with details of deposits and withdrawals), verification of employment, documentation of annual salary, certification of relationship to applicant, (applicants from China to provide a Japanese translation of proof of kinship) All documents must be accompanied by a Japanese translation. 4 16 Family Register or Equivalent Certificate (Chinese applicants should provide a copy of their 戸口簿 ) Note In regards to these documents. Applicant who have graduated from junior college, university, or a technical school (including adult high school programs) must also submit official diploma of graduation and transcripts of grades in their respective language. These documents must be included in the application. We will not accept applications that include only documents from junior college, university, or technical school. Alternate documents that reflect the same content may be acceptable. 6.Method of Selection. Screening of documents. personal interviews may be required at the discretion of Kurume university, and will be held by internet. 7. Entrance Examination Fee and Method of Payment (1) Entrance Examination Fee 10,000 (Japanese Yen) Handling charges connected with transfer of remittance are the responsibility of the applicant. Before transferring funds, please notify Kurume University Entrance Examination Center of the date of transfer. This can be done either by telephone , or by nyushi@kurume-u.ac.jp (2) Method of Payment 1 When making payments from within Japan: Remit fee by wire through a financial institute (bank, post office) to the following bank account. Upon transfer, paste proof of payment (receipt from an ATM, etc.) to the Receipt of Payment for Entrance Examination Form provided by Kurume University. Applications without proof of payment as well as missing an official seal from a financial institute will not be accepted. Cash payments will not be accepted. Confirm through the bank in your country that the proper amount is sent and that payment will be made in Japanese Yen. Make certain to fill out MESSAGE TO PAYEE blank on the wire form with the phrase PAY IN FULL Paste proof of transfer of funds with official seal to the Receipt of Payment for Entrance Examination Form provided by Kurume University when submitting application. After remittance, notify the university. Upon receipt of funds, the university will notify you. Applications lacking the proper payment will not be processed. Once fees are submitted, they are non-refundable. Contact the Entrance Examination Center by for further details before the start of the application period. For those residing in China, fees must be submitted along with application documents to Beijing Educational Exchange Center.
