6 D. Personal Statement: A personal statement is an opportunity to demonstrate that you have given careful thought to your reasons for wanting a social work education and a career in social work. Your personal statement will be read only by the BSW faculty on the admissions committee. Please place your personal statement in a sealed envelope marked "Personal Statement of (insert your name)". This document will be returned to you after June 30th of the year in which you apply. Please address the following questions in your personal statement. (Max 2000 words.) 1. The references must come from people who have known you for a significant period of time (minimum one year). References may be professional or academic (employer, practicum or volunteer supervisor, teacher, professor, etc.). One may be from someone who knows you on a personal basis, but is not a relative.
