1 University of Sharjah College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Art History and Museum Studies Bachelor Program AHMS Program Description The Art History and Museum Studies is a distinctive program in the region as there are no competing programs at institutions of higher education across the country. The Program has an interdisciplinary nature based upon the partnership with the College of Fine Arts, College of Engineering and other departments within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The AHMS Program is taught in English and students will be encouraged to learn other languages in order for them to be able to compete and secure careers worldwide. The program will further help students participate in national, regional and international internships. Special attention will be given to international programs in order to provide students with the opportunity to interact with peers, visit cultural institutions, and acquaint themselves with the latest developments in the field of museum studies. AHMS Program Mission Our aim is to provide high quality education in a stimulating environment that enables our graduates in art history and museum studies to be pioneers in the field and contribute to the development of the society. AHMS Program Goals AHMS aims to accomplish the following goals: 1. Prepare graduates to become creative and effective professionals within the museum and heritage sectors as well as developing knowledge and skills related to art history and museum studies. 2. Acquaint students with the architectural,vernacular and urban heritage of the UAE. 3. Enable students to think critically and creatively within the fields of museum and art history studies. 4. Immerse students in an experience of professional practice within museums and heritage through an internship in a related organization. 5. Enable students to understand the history and the cultural traditions of the region as well as theoretical and practical aspects of heritage conservation and management. 6. Develop students understanding of the significance of cultural diversity. 7. Provide students with confidence, selfdirection and independent learning skills relevant to research and professional practice in the fields of museum studies and art history.

2 8. Enable students to pursue specialist postgraduate studies in museums and cultural heritage management. Total Pro AHMS Admission Requirements 1. The UAE Secondary School Scientific or Literary Stream Certificate, or its equivalent, with an average of not less than 70 %. 2. The university requires students wishing to enroll in Englishmedium specializations to submit one of the following certificates as a proof to their English proficiency: IELTS certificate (academic) with a minimum overall score of band 5. TOEFL Ibt certificate with a minimum score of 61. Degree Completion Requirements Students should complete 123 credit hours on three levels of requirements: university, college, and department. The minimum residency requirements for all the students at the University of Sharjah is six regular semesters and the maximum should not exceed thirteen semesters. 61. gramme Credit Hours (CH) are 123 CH divided into the following components: A. University Requirements (UR): 24 CH; B. College Requirements (CR): 15 CH; C.
