4 Diploma Paths Core 40 w/ Academic Honors Core 40 w/ Technical Honors Core 40 General Diploma

EVSC / Core 40 Intended to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, one and two-year colleges and technical schools, and/or successful entry into the workforce.

5 EVSC / Core 40 Intended to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, one and two-year colleges and technical schools, and/or successful entry into the workforce. The EVSC/Core 40 diploma requirements are: English 8 credits Social Studies 6 credits Mathematics 6 credits Science 6 credits Health 1 credit Physical Education 3 credits Directed Electives 5 credits (World Language, Fine Arts and/or Career-Technical) Electives 6 credits TOTAL 41 credits Students planning to attend four-year colleges are expected to take a minimum of two years of a world language, advanced English, advanced Science, and advanced Mathematics courses.

6 Academic Honors Diploma Effective with students who entered high school in the School Year. To acquire the Core 40 w/ Academic Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits. Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages) Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits. Earn a grade of C or above in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of B or above, and Complete one of the following: Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exams. Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from priority course list. Earn 2 of the following: A minimum of 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the priority course list. 2 credits in AP courses and corresponding AP exams. 2 credits in IB standard level courses and corresponding IB exams. Earn a combined score of 1750 on the SAT critical reading, mathematics and writing sections and a minimum score of 530 on each. Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section. Earn 4 credits in IB courses and take corresponding IB exams. Earn a minimum of 47 credits.

7 Technical Honors Diploma Effective with students who entered high school in the School Year. To acquire the Core 40 w/ Technical Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or Pathway dual credits from the list of priority courses resulting in 6 transcripted college credits. Earn a grade of C or above in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of B or above, and Earn a minimum of 47 credits Complete one of the following: Any one of the options (A-F) of the Core 40 w/ Academic Honors Earn the following scores or higher on Workeys: Reading for Information Level 6, Applied Mathematics Level 6, and Locating Information Level 5. Earn the following score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80.

13 JUNIOR YEAR Take the SAT/ACT? If so, when? Students should register to take SAT and/or ACT in the spring of their junior year; retake in fall of senior year if dissatisfied with scores. Most 4 year college & universities will want a score to make an admission decision Fee waivers are available if you receive free/reduced lunch or are a 21 st Century Scholar SAT: online at $57.00 (with essay should take essay at least once) Free SAT practice offered at Khan Academy & w/mrs. Hills ACT: online at $58.50 (with writing should take writing at least once) Practice available online on their website.

16 Planning For College What are colleges looking for in an applicant? Cumulative 3 year GPA: Rigor of course load (AP, Dual Credit/Honors) Senior Classes Grade trends want to see grades going up Junior year grades are important Class Rank SAT/ACT Scores Activities, Work, and Leadership Experiences Extraordinary circumstances (i.e.1 st generation college student, legacy) Special talents (i.e. athletic, artistic, musical) *Create a résumé of your extra curricular and volunteer activities, etc.*

17 Which College is Right for You? Meet College CHS when they visit. Campus visits are important try to make a visit this spring or summer. 2 College Visit days per semester are allowed. Make an official visit: meet with admissions representative, take a guided tour, meet with a representative from the department/major in which you have an interest.

20 Scholarships Most scholarships are available senior year and will be advertised in the Senior News and Scholarship Report on the Central website, offered directly from the colleges/universities that students apply to, or through FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There are many scholarship search sites available, however, and some do offer scholarship opportunities for students in their Junior year:
