Planning to Meet Deadlines: Student Worksheet Goal: You will use task management tools to plan to reach your aspirations. Part I: Bell Work What tools do you use to manage your time? Do you think you have good time management? Now, Explain your reasons to an elbow partner. Part II: Activity 1. Sign in to CaliforniaColleges.edu and type task list in the search box located at the top-right corner of the page. Find the page titled, Help with Using Your Task List and read it. Take notes below on what you learn: 2. With an elbow partner, decide the difference between a task list and a calendar. Record your conclusions below. 3. Now, click on the My Tasks icon located in the top-right corner of your page. Find the tasks titled, Participate in a college fair held at a local high school and Visit a college campus, take a tour, and add the college to My Plan. Come up with a plan to complete these tasks. You may need to add additional tasks for yourself. When you have completed tasks, mark them as complete. 4. Next, find the tasks related to tests like the ACT and SAT. Read them carefully. Add additional tasks specific to when you plan to take these tests. You may need to visit the College Board or ACT websites to get the information you need. 5. Then, find the tasks related to academic planning. Review them. If you go to school in a CCGI partner district, review the CSU Eligibility and UC Eligibility tabs to assess your academic readiness to apply to California State University (CSU) and/or University of California (UC). If you do not go to school in a CCGI partner district, work with your counselor to determine your eligibility. 6. Now that you have some clarity on where you are, hover on My Plan at the top of the page. Click on My College Plan, then click on the College Applications tab. Complete the Application Type, Application Plan, and Deadline Date column for each of the colleges on your list. To find this information, you will need to visit each college s factsheet by clicking on the name of each college.
Part III: Reflect Go to My Plan and then My Journal. In the College Journal section, find prompt #9: 9. What is one thing you can do to strengthen your time management? Even if you manage your time well, there is always room for improvement. Think about not just what you want to do, but who can support your growth, and the resources you need to be successful. Respond to the above prompt. Follow your teacher s instructions if s/he assigns a different prompt. Mark Task as Complete Before you sign out, make sure to mark this task as complete. Click on the My Tasks icon located in the top-right corner of your page. Click on the Your Activities tab, find the name of this worksheet, and check the completed box.

Guiding Question How can additional research help us choose the colleges that are the best fit? Bell Work (5 minutes) Students will answer the bell work question. Allow 2-3 timed minutes past the bell. Go through your selected colleges and rank them in order of preference. Activity (30 minutes) 1. Students will spend time reviewing My Tasks and complete tasks related to postsecondary planning. 2. Next, they add new tasks based on their individual plans. 3. Then, they review their progress towards meeting the a-g requirements. 4. Finally, they update the College Applications tab in My College Plan. Reflection (5-10 minutes) Direct students to My Journal to respond to the prompt indicated in the student worksheet. You may also assign an alternative prompt. Optional: direct students to upload their completed worksheet to My Documents. Mark Task as Complete Before students sign out, make sure they mark this task as complete.
