School Uniform Policy Rationale: A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their personal appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community and assists in developing pride in representing the school The wearing of the correct uniform is a requirement for all students attending St Therese; during school hours and travelling to and from school. Aims: 1. to promote equality among students. 2. to further develop a sense of pride in belonging to this school and identifies St Therese in the community. 3. recognises and reflects our Dominican tradition Supporting Structures In support of this policy St Therese School will: Make a copy of this policy available to the school community The Principal will: Inform Parents/Caregivers or volunteers of this policy. Write in the Inter Nos re the wearing of the correct uniform in Term One and Three Staff Members will Remind students of the correct uniform. Speak with students not wearing correct uniform and follow-up with families where necessary Students will: Wear the correct uniform
Parents/Caregivers will: Purchase the correct uniform. Ensure that their children follow the school policy Uniform variations: When a student is unable to wear the correct uniform a parent/caregiver is required to send a note to the class teacher explaining the reason and the period for which the student is unable to wear correct uniform. Hats are compulsory for all PE activities. No garments other than those stated on the uniform list are to be visible. This includes coloured T- Shirts or singlets which are visible through shirts, boxer shorts under dresses/above trousers, and socks beneath or over tights. Students are to wear the correct uniform for Physical Education on their classes designated sports day, or as per instructed by the class or sport teacher. Sports shoes are only to be worn for physical education or sport lessons Students are not permitted to wear visible make-up or jewellery other than plain sleepers or studs for pierced ears. Only one sleeper or stud per ear. Any other visible piercing of any form are not permitted. Clear plastic plugs or band-aid coverings are not acceptable. Coloured nail polish is not permitted.
A fine gold or silver chain may be worn, but only if it carries a small religious symbol. For health and safety reasons hair must be tied back in an 'off the face' fashion. Accessories must be discreet, small and plain school colours (blue). Glitter is not permitted. Accessories must be functional; not decorative. Hair must be natural in colour and style and kept clean. Unusual hairstyles, as determined by the School, that are not in keeping with the wearing of school uniform are unacceptable. Senior students at St Therese are able to negotiate the design for a special style of jumper. This Jumper is Navy in colour and any design must be in school colours (blue and yellow) All School Uniform items are available from Totally School wear at Cumberland Park. However a two week lead in period at the beginning of Term Two and Four will give students the flexibility to wear either uniform depending on the weather.
