Our Lady and Saint George s Catholic Primary School Headteacher: Ms R McGlynn Shernhall Street, Walthamstow, London E17 3EA 22nd November 2013 Newsletter No 11 Dear Parents/Carers Parish School Event Instead of the Bazaar, this year we will be having an organ recital and concert on Saturday November 30 th at 7.00pm. There will be input from our school, the two parish choirs and the Ordinariate group. There will be food shared by the different nationalities in the Parish Hall afterwards. Tickets will be 5 for over 16s, children free and there will be a raffle. The children are invited to be part of this wonderful occasion. We will be learning some songs to sing at the Parish Concert and we would like your child(ren) to participate, please give your child s name at the school office (Upper Site) or inform Mrs McNamara/Mrs Quinton. Tickets now available from the School office on both sites 5 each under 16 s free. We look forward to seeing you there. More information is further on in the newsletter. Christmas Celebrations As the end of term is getting even closer please make sure you have put the dates of our Christmas celebrations in your diary. On Wednesday 11th December our Nursery pupils who attend in the morning along with both Reception classes will be presenting the Christmas Nativity at 9.30am at Lower Site. On Thursday 12th December our Nursery pupils who attend in the afternoon along with both Reception classes will be presenting the Christmas Nativity at 1.45pm at Lower Site. Also on Thursday 12th December all pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 will be performing a carol service in Church at 7pm. Please note that the pupils will be having a rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon in Church and the children from Year 3 to 6 will need to be collected from Church. Year 2 pupils will be collected from school as normal. School Christmas Lunch Children who currently have a packed lunch are invited to join us for Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 11 th December. Your child should have brought home a letter this week with a reply slip at the bottom, please return the reply slip by 29 th November if your child wishes to have lunch as the school cooks have to order food accordingly. Please log onto the school shop and pay 2.20 on your child s dinner account. The deadline for payment is Wednesday 4 th December. Year 2-6 Carol Service Please keep practising song words for the Carol Service. The words of all the songs are in the Music Room on Fronter and the musical accompaniments are there also. The date of the Carol Service is Thursday 12 th December. All children from Years 2-6 are expected to be present for this occasion where they will join together to retell the Christmas Story. School Choir Next Friday our school choir will be participating in the Diocesan Christmas Carol Service in Brentwood. The children have been working hard to learn the songs for the evening and we wish them luck at this wonderful event. Parents of the children attending this, please remember to return your details to the office re contacts for the night. REMINDER A reminder for Upper Site parents that The Christmas Pantomime Dick Whittington is on the 17 th December at Theatre Royal in Stratford. Please log onto the school shop to make the payment of 10.00 for your child/ren and give permission for them to attend. We are unable to take any child who hasn t been given permission. TODAY is the deadline, please make sure you have paid and given permission. Attendance Written by the School Council Well done to everyone who came to school during 100% attendance week! We loved welcoming you and your parents into school on the Monday and the Thursday with stickers, we hope you liked it too! Unfortunately, we had lots of sickness last week, however one class did manage the 100% and that was..year 6NW!!!!! Congratulations! They were very closely followed by 5F and 2O L with 98%! Together as a school we managed 96.18%, which made our school target; however we would like to keep improving this! Well done once again! Non Uniform Day Thursday 28 th November is a Non uniform day for the children and a school uniform day for the Staff, with all proceeds from donations going to UNICEF appeal for the disaster in the Philippines. PTA Foundation Stage and KS1 Disco Tomorrow is the Foundation and Key Stage 1 Disco on lower site, dust down your dancing shoes and have a good time! Advent Fundraising We will be starting our Advent fundraising earlier this year for the UNICEF Philippine s appeal. Your child will be bringing home information about this shortly. Please keep them all in your prayers. Poppy Appeal Thank you so much to everyone on both sites who bought a poppy to support the British Legion Poppy Appeal. The total amount raised was 128.05 Free School Meals If you feel that you may be entitled to free school meals, listed below is how to apply. If you are claiming benefits you will be able to apply by Filling in an application form online at www.walthamforest.govuk/freeschoolmeals

Our Lady and St Georges Church Information for the Advent Concert Evening Saturday 30 th November 2013 at 7pm 1) Tickets cost 5 per adults and are available for purchase via OLSG school, after church masses and on the door the night of the concert. 2) Tickets are available for purchase at OLSG upper/lower site schools. 3) Under 16 s are free of charge, parents must pay. 4) Pre-sold tickets must be presented on the door on the night to gain entry into the concert. 5) During the concert, the choir children will be seated on the right hand side of the church. 6) Parents must collect children immediately the concert is finished 7) As a thank you each child will receive a carton of juice and a cake/biscuit when they leave.
