Types of Option Courses All Option Courses are academic courses that allow progression into the 6 th Form. There are two types of qualification that can be studied at school: BTEC, CNC and NVQ Single award equivalent to 1 GCSE. Grades Distinction* to Level 1 Pass. 75% coursework. 25% external exams. Develops an understanding of the skills and jobs in that subject area. GCSE Single award. Grades 9 to 1. May have coursework. Will have exams or controlled assessments.

Subject Grades and Post 16 Progression A Levels; BTECS; NVQs can all be studied post 16. Current entry requirements to take 3 A Levels is an average GCSE Grade 4 in all KS4 subjects and a minimum Grade 4 in GCSE English and GCSE Maths. Individual subject criteria is set at various grades, but is normally grade 5 or 6. This entry criteria will be reviewed and further clarification given during KS4. The current entrance criteria can be seen on the School website under the Sixth Form Welwyn Hatfield Consortium tab.

What is the English Baccalaureate? The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is a certificate for students who pass the following qualifications at grades 9-5: 1. GCSE English 2. GCSE Maths 3. A minimum of 2 GCSE Sciences 4. A GCSE Modern Language (French or Spanish) 5. A GCSE Humanities (Geography or History). No extra work is needed for the EBacc.

Option Choices Confirmed Option Choices will be confirmed in writing in June. Students will be notified of any changes that need to be made at the earliest possible opportunity. Once option choices are confirmed they are fixed in place for the start of the 2018 academic year.
