Remember: The good deed write-ups must not exceed 100 words. An example of a good deed: Today I saw three students from my school eating snacks on the road. They were carelessly littering the road with the empty packets and wrappers. First I picked up whatever they had thrown, and put it in a nearby dustbin. Then, I went up to them and told them that just like it is important for us to clean our house when guests come, it is also important for us to keep our city clean, because guests come here all year round. Deepanshu Kataria,Class IX, Birla Vidya Niketan, Delhi. 2.To My Favourite Sports Star (Competitive Activity) Students can write a personal message to their favourite Indian Commonwealth Games athlete! Messages that are creative, thought-provoking and interesting will win exciting prizes. Students may submit their messages through the online form/ postcard/ Shera drop-box provided by the school. The message should be encouraging and not more than 100 words. Students must only use proper English or Hindi. 3.An example of a student s message: Dear Vijender Singh, You are our star boxer. Make sure you knock-out all your opponents and make them see stars! We are counting on you to win gold. 1,2,3,4,5...get up, get ready! go! Your Fan Vikramaditya 6

Class IX, Springdales School, Delhi. 4.There s Something I Want to Change (School-level Activity, Non-competitive and Competitive) Schools should organize debates, essay contests and role-plays asking students Is there something about your neighbourhood, city or country that you want to change? Students can also write and submit their thoughts to the school authorities. Students must write in detail what they want to change and how. If there is something that the student proactively does in order to achieve the change, they can write it down as A Good Deed Indeed! and submit it for the competition to win prizes. Example of There s Something I Want to Change (Submitted to the school) The one thing that I want to change about Delhi is that I want less traffic on the roads. We are all responsible for what happens around us, and we have the solutions to those problems too. People should stop driving their cars everywhere and use public transport. If we all use car-pools, buses and metros, there will be no more slow movement on the roads. Kush Gupta, Class XII, Laxman Public School, Delhi. Example of how it can become A Good Deed Indeed! (Submitted in the contest section) I have always wanted less traffic in Delhi. While I cannot make rules for others, I can make rules for myself. From now on, whenever my family wants to go out for a movie or food, I insist that we take the metro instead of our car. If my parents don t listen to me, then I simply refuse to go with them. Kush Gupta, Class XII, Laxman Public School, Delhi. 5.Art Competition (Competitive Activity) Students can design posters for the Commonwealth Games 2010, and win exciting prizes! The topic of the Poster Design contest is The Spirit of the Commonwealth. What is your idea of the Commonwealth? What do you feel about the CWG 2010? We ask the students to capture their ideas in drawings for the poster design. All posters are to be made on an A3 size chart paper of any colour. Students are free to use any material crayons, colour pencils, sketch pens, pictures to paste etc. Students must write their name, class and school at the back of the poster. Students may submit their poster design to the school for the contest. 7

Schools will organize the Art Competition at their level, and then send one short-listed entry from each student category mentioned in the guidelines. 6.Commonwealth of Knowledge (School-level Activity, Competitive and Non-competitive) Schools must spread awareness about the Commonwealth of Nations and the Games in their schools through talks, quizzes and class-room activity. As a competitive activity, schools can divide their students into groups and assign them one Commonwealth country each. Students can research the country and make a presentation on the same as a competitive activity. Schools/ Zones/ Districts will be specially recognized for their contribution to this activity in the reckoning for awards. 7.Dress Up Your Home for CWG2010 (School-level Activity ) At the school-level, students must be encouraged through contests or general activity to decorate their homes for the Commonwealth Games celebrations. This is an opportunity for students to unleash their creativity through poster-art, rangoli, paper-craft and other imaginative ways. Schools/ Zones/ Districts will be specially recognized for their contribution to this activity in the reckoning for awards. We are particularly keen that all Students make a poster of the following and put it up outside their home: 1.Welcome to Delhi! 2. Delhi Celebrates! the Common wealth games 2010 Note:- School can download poster for Shera Mera Dost by clicking on Downloads icon at www.delhitourism.gov.in 8.Non-contest Activities Over and above the planned activities, schools and education officials are encouraged to get creative and conduct other entertaining activities for students for Shera Mera Dost. Rewards and recognition await those who make the maximum contribution towards making the programme a success! 8
