What does the IB DP Core look like at ΛIS? In theory of knowledge (TOK), students reflect on the nature of knowledge. Most Core class periods will focus on TOK. The extended essay (EE) is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is program through which students reflect on their learning in extra-curricular activities. Sometimes students will have time in Core to work on their EE or CAS reflections.
What are the entry requirements for IB DP? Students wishing to enter the IB DP must demonstrate good academic and self-management skills: Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a grade of at least a B in English and Math in grade 10. We rely on recommendations from grade 10 teachers when deciding whether a student is suitable for the IB DP. Finally, we consult students grade 10 PSAT scores.

Frequently asked questions What is the difference between the IB Diploma and IB certificates? The IB Diploma includes one course from each of the six subject groups as well as all three components of the DP Core. IB certificates are awarded when a student chooses to study up to two individual IB subjects at higher level (HL). What is the difference between IB and AP? Every IB class spans two years, so students gain great depth of knowledge in the subject areas they study. AP courses are one year each, so they move at a faster pace and focus more on breadth of information.
What is the workload like for IB? Frequently asked questions The IB program is very rigorous, so students should be prepared to work hard! It is common to have 4-6 hours of homework most nights, and students are expected to review independently in addition to completing normal work, usually around 2-3 hours per week. Students are also expected to work on IB assignments during school holidays.

Can you drop out halfway through the program? Since the IB program requires a two-year commitment, students must enter the program with full intention to complete the two-year course of study. Can you transfer to another IB school halfway through? Yes, IB schools offer many of the same courses, so it may be possible to transfer to another IB school in another city or even country.
