How do I become an International Student? Successful international students typically have a TOEFL 80 or above. Scores in SSAT, HSPT or PSAT are helpful in evaluating an application. If English is not your first language, submit a copy of a recent English Proficiency test score report - a TOEFL score is preferred. Good Counsel will sponsor your I-20 and connect you with a homestay management partner if needed. How do I become a Global Buddy? About 20 30 American students are selected each year to be Global Buddies with the international students. Being a buddy to an international student broadens your horizon and point of view. You will be pen pals during the summer break, and participate in weekly activities with international students throughout the year. It is a rewarding experience that provides an opportunity to support each other s growth. Upon successful completion, a buddy can apply for and receive a letter of recognition to be included in his or her college application package. How do I become a Host Family? Being a host family is a culturally enriching experience for every member of the family, and you will build enduring personal relationships across the world for years to come. We enroll 15 20 international students every year, and they all need a loving place to live. Good Counsel will connect you with a homestay management partner to match your family with an international student.
How do I participate in Exchanges? Throughout the year, Good Counsel makes available exchanges with several high schools around the world, currently Spain, France, Austria and Australia. The school is exploring partnerships with schools in Ireland, United Kingdom, Japan and China. You will provide housing to your exchange student when she or he comes to Good Counsel, and you will stay with your exchange student when you go overseas. Each Exchange has its own requirements and processes. How do I become a Global Scholar? Under the guidance of the Director of Global Programs, students build e-portfolios of essays and projects they complete through activities and courses at GC that are related to global issues and perspectives. Successful students receive recognition upon graduation and can use their e-portfolios in support of their college application. How do I participate in Model UN? As an International Baccalaureate World School, Good Counsel supports extra-curricular activities that encourage students to study people and cultures around the world. Our Model UN delegates have won awards in several regional conferences. Under the Speech & Debate Team, our students attend events in the region throughout the year, including conferences organized by Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, University of Pennsylvania, USAID and US State Department. Summer workshops are also available. Learn more about international learning opportunities by visiting olgchs.org/globalprograms
