Programs Milena Spasova, CFA Austen Cornell, CFA CFA Society Jacksonville completed another year of outstanding educational programs and networking events. This year s programs included a wide variety of speakers and topics, addressing the diverse areas of interest among our members. 5
Awareness Patrick Joey Grieve, CFA A constant theme at national society leadership conferences is that members would like more resources allocated to the effort of raising awareness among the investment public. In light of this feedback, the CFA Institute allocated a larger share of funding to local societies to spend on marketing and branding. With this larger share of marketing and branding dollars from the national level, our goal locally is to help get the word out in a way such that employers, clients, and prospects have a better idea of what the CFA charter is, who we are, and what we do. The board renewed its focus on CFA brand awareness and advocacy this year through events and branded material for display and distribution. In case you were not able to make it out to an event this year, please make sure you join us at one of our upcoming events to grab your CFA Jacksonville branded shirts, hats, mugs, journals, and pens! This year s event to raise awareness among our community was our team for the Bike MS which occurred from October 14-15, 2017 and took riders down the scenic A1A route from Jacksonville to Daytona and back with various distance options available ranging from 36 to 180 miles. We represented the brand with CFA Jacksonville team jerseys and raised awareness while supporting a great cause in the community. Our local sponsorship of the event included our logo in all of their emails to the 1000+ riders and display on their website and other ride materials. We plan to do this again in October 2018, so please email me or one of our board members for more info on joining or contributing to the team. The renewed focus on awareness and advocacy efforts, along with the increased support from the national level, are still young so we welcome all ideas. Please contact Joey Greive, Board Awareness/Advocacy Chair for the 2017-2019 term, at joey.greive@gmail.com with ideas. 6
Education/Advocacy Anna Tsoy, CFA Participation in the Donna Breast Cancer Marathon was one of the early projects of 2018. CFA Society Jacksonville manned a booth in the Runners Village at the finish line and distributed educational and promotional materials. The focus was to engage the crowd and educate them on the CFA program and share a list of questions individuals should ask their financial advisor. A brochure entitled 7 Steps to Financial Fitness was inserted in each of 8,000 registered runner s bags. We had several runners from the local CFA Society wearing branded attire. Total project cost was $6,137 and CFAI contributed $3,500 to the total cost. 7
Education/Advocacy (continued) Anna Tsoy, CFA A second major advocacy project was an initiative that originated as a result of the meeting at the Americas CFA Society Leadership Conference in Hong Kong. Jacksonville CFA Society facilitated the efforts to publish a traditional advertisement as part of the College Affordability campaign. It went out in print within USA Today on June 15, 2018 and is expected to reach 150,000 readers in across North, Central and South Florida. The campaign is projected to run online http://educationandcareernews.com through the remainder of the calendar year (2018) and also distributed at industry events and conferences throughout the year.
