Community News A Newsletter for Friends of Residential Resources, Inc. January 2018 My Trip to Holyoke Charlene Scott, Participant, & Maggie Dragon, DSP Emerald St., Keene, NH We started our day at Yankee Candle, I loved the fake snow and the nutcrackers. The room with the Christmas trees was wonderful. I kept saying how beautiful it was. Then we went down to the Holyoke Mall and we ate our lunch. As usual I was very kind and outgoing, I talked to a lot of people, and mostly everyone was great and outgoing back. We went to the Christmas Tree Shop where I picked up gifts for my Home Provider. We went into probably 6 stores. I bought the perfect gift for them. It was hard to make up my mind, I settled on some things nally. I got to see Santa & really enjoyed the day. My favorite part was singing with Maggie on the way down and back home. More great stuff inside! Sherrie got a new chair, Maine had their annual Christmas party, the Emerald St. craft group made something new, and learn who the nicest man is... ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY IN MAINE Claude Elliott, Program Manager Scarborough, ME The holiday season kicked off on Wednesday, December 6th when John N., Participant, spent the afternoon decorating the Scarborough of ce. Thank you John! It looks great!! On Friday, December 8th, everyone gathered from 4 pm to 6 pm at the of ce to enjoy delicious food, catching up with old friends, and a gift exchange. As always, our festivities would not have been complete without our favorite entertainer, Sam The Music Man! He delighted the crowd with great music, including many Christmas carols. We want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and that all of your 2018 wishes come true! Page 2 Community News January 2018

New Chair for Sherrie Josie Dupouy, Assistant Manager Manchester, NH A few months ago Sherrie asked if it would be possible to buy a reclining chair for the living room that she could sit in. Having a chair in the living room would allow her to comfortably watch TV and hang out with her roommate and staff. We had to nd a recliner, and we needed to have a track installed in the living room ceiling. The recliner was found on Amazon, and has a massager built in! The chair was delivered about a week before the track was scheduled to be installed. When the track was installed we weren t sure what to expect. Sherrie and I both agreed that it was very loud! It took a couple days for Sherrie to try out the recliner and was really happy the rst time she was able to sit in it. When asked, Sherrie said that she really likes her new chair, It s very comfortable and it vibrates! Last Saturday we had a movie night and Sherrie was able to watch the movie from the comfort of her new chair. Her cat, Princess, now can jump on her lap to be patted. Mike Micanko has a passion for helping others. Despite his challenges with a traumatic brain injury and diabetes, his day s mission is to see how he can help someone x something around their home, mow their lawn, maybe drive them to a grocery store or a medical appointment. He has always been this way and says he will continue to help others as long as he is able. He has recently been recognized twice for his assistance in helping with our local Senior Citizens Council with various projects and activities. THE NICEST MAN Dale Anderson, Field Coordinator Plattsburgh, NY "There are a lot of people who have diabetes or are disabled and can't do the things I can still do," he said. "Here, I'm able to drive, able to walk, able to work -- so I can still help others." "I just love doing this," he said. "It just makes me happy to help others. Between 2006 and 2016, Michael was a major contender in the Area 26 Special Olympics tennis team. He was awarded numerous medals in those New York Summer Games. He practiced and pushed himself to a level that awarded him second place in the second division. Considering the number of competitors, that is a huge accomplishment. On my quiet times at home I love putting models together, stated Michael, as I can see by his extensive collection consisting of airplanes, boats, and military tanks. In Mike s home I see an endless collection of Star Wars memorabilia. Along with his vast Star Wars gurines, he has every Star Wars movie/dvd. Even though Michael has the same challenges, disappointments, and frustrations we all have sometimes, he has coped with these obstacles and then some, and still has his in nite smile and good wishes to everyone he meets every day. We Made Christmas Ornaments! Judy Lazzaro, DSP, Emerald St. Keene Our craft group meets every Tuesday. Yesterday we painted the Christmas ornaments that we made the previous week. The recipe we used is: 1/2 cup cornstarch, 4 oz. white glue, 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of vegetable or baby oil. Let them air dry. Then we painted them a week later. Some people made Christmas trees, reindeer, bells, or snowmen. They came out really good. Thank you to everyone who contributes articles and pictures to the newsletter. Articles are due by the second Friday of each month for the following month s newsletter. The newsletter will be posted at www.resresources.com on the rst business day of each month. If you do not have access to the internet and would like a copy of the newsletter mailed to you, please contact your local Residential Resources office to make arrangements.
