Activities of the Charitable Trust for the Financial Year : 2009-10 Aishabai & Haji Abdul Latif Charitable Trust is a registered charitable trust working in the service of humanity for last many years. The major focus of the trust has been promotion of the education of weaker sections of the society and also medical aid to the needy persons. The Trust has been supporting several schools in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Our major contribution in this field is to provide supplementary services to the education department of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and Mumbai. Main Aims and Objectives of the Trust 1. To raise and promote social, cultural, educational, humanitarian standards and help in ameliorate the conditions of down trodden minorities and backward classes, also to help the destitute poor and needy. 2. To establish and run primary, secondary, schools, colleges of Arts, commerce, science, management, vocational training centers. 3. To establish and run the hostels and boarding for boys and girls to promote good education. 4. To establish health centers, hospitals and also support the cases who are in need of medical and surgical help. 5. To provide scholarship and educational assistance to poor, needy and deserving students. 6. To establish and run library, hostels, high schools, non formal education classes adult literacy and coaching classes and also support such classes and schools being run by others for the promotion of education. 7. To establish institutions specially to support the cause of women s education and empowerment. 1
MCGM School Initiative: Aishabai & Haji Abdul Latif Charitable Trust has been working in the field of education for several years. One of our largest initiative is work in Municipal schools of Mumbai. At present we have adopted 13 schools and support the education of 10,025 children in many ways. Our major responsibility under the adoption scheme is to provide services to children such as Uniforms, Note Books, Books etc; provide infrastructure support to schools such as Black Boards, Water, Toilets, Repair, reconstruction and maintenance of the school, whenever Municipal Corporation is not able to provide adequate resources the Trust has been providing Teachers in all these schools as there is large shortfall of trained people and the Government does not have adequate teachers. Trust teachers and the coordinators have been providing extra coaching and the necessary guidance and counseling to the students attending these schools. Owing to this collaborative effect with BMC, we see visible changes in the area of decrease in drop out rates, increased motivation to pursue the higher studies, better results at matriculation exams and increase in confidence. The following activities were carried out during the period 2009 to 2010 1) Provided extra teachers to Municipal Schools to fill up shortfall of teachers in adopted school. 2) Provided Non-Teaching and Support Staff to Municipal Schools. 3) Provided Uniforms to students of Municipal schools 4) Provided Note Books and educational material 5) Provided Shoes. 6) Provided Examination Guides and SSC Board Solution papers. 7) Provided Compass Box and other accessories 8) Provided Dustbins, Water Bottles And Compass Boxes. 9) Provided Cupboards, Chairs etc. 10) Repairing of furniture. 11) Provided School fees, SSC Board Exam Fees to poor and needy students. 12) Provided Black Boards. Specific Activities in the Municipal Schools 1) Counselling students and parents. 2) Extra Classes for Std X. 3) Remedial Classes for slow learners. 4) Vocational Courses for boys and girls specially dropout students. 5) Conducted Seminars and workshops for Teachers. 6) Guest lecturers for the students of Std X. on Study Techniques and preparation for SSC Examinations. 7) Door to Door canvassing to enroll new students to MCGM schools to increase the strength, to prevent the closing of Urdu Medium schools in Town. 8) To Run Balwadis in the adopted school. 2
Fazlani International School. This school is located in Takwe, Dist. Pune in very attractive and peaceful surroundings. Students from neighbouring villages, destitute children from Jamila Arif children s Village pursue their education in this English Medium School. In addition to the academic activities, the following co-curricular and extra-curricular activities were organised during the year: Sr.No Activity 1. Visit to Kumar Resort 2. The occasion helped instill a sense of pride and nationalism in the students. 5. Rally on Environmental Day 6. Educational Trip to Mumbai Aishabai College of Education: This Teacher Training College awards Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Degree to girls interested in pursuing the Teaching Profession. This course is affiliated to S. N. D. T. Women s University, recognized by N. C. T. E. Bhopal. The Following curricular and extra-curricular activities were conducted during the academic year: 1. Stress Management & E-Learning (Guest Lecture) 11. Picnic to Essel World & Jamila Arif Children s Village, Takwe. Vocational Training: The Trust has started vocational training classes for boys and girls. At present there are many batches of electrical work and of AC and Refrigerator repair work that is being conducted for boys and tailoring, Crochet, Pot Making, Hand Embroidery, Machine Embroidery, Fabric Painting, Mehndi and Glass Painting. In the last year 217 students have benefited from these classes. Apart from this the trust has supported the tailoring and electric work classes being run at Dahisar by Fazlani Technical Institute. There are forty students enrolled in these classes. The Trust is also supporting the computer education of 27 students who are doing Computer Hardware course from M.H. Saboo Siddik Polytechnic. 3
Support to other Organizations: Aishabai & Haji Abdul Latif Charitable Trust has supported various educational institutes and organizations in last year. The major work was to construct a girl s home, Samina Iqbal Ashiyana, in Pune. The home was established and run by Muslim Samaj Prabodhan Sanstha, Pune. The Trust has been providing for the rehabilitation and education of girls, who are housed in this home. The other organizations that have benefited in the last year are R. F. Pavri High School, Babasahab Naik College of Eng. Asian Heart Institute, Setu Development Intervention center, Ideal school and Star English High School. SOS Village: This is the project of a SOS village which will be housing 200 boys and girls. This SOS village, planned on the same concept as the International SOS Village Movement, initiated by Hermen Gemaiener. A home for the orphan and destitute children with all basic amenities and opportunities to develop their full potential. The project is housed at village Takwe, near Lonavala. 4

Students & Parents Counselling We also organised felicitation programme for SSC students on 8 th September 2010. This year we have awarded 73 students of different adopted BMC schools who scored above 60% marks with certificate and cash prize. To provide home for homeless widows, destitute children, create shelter home for aged etc. 3. To construct a higher secondary school and junior college. Also construct a center for the vocational training and empowerment of girls and women s. 4. To construct and run technical schools, study center and non-formal education classes. 5. To construct primary health center to provide medical help to the poor and needy. 6. To establish a home for destitute girls and children who are victims of nature and home made calamities. To establish a complete village to shelter such orphan children with the facilities of schools, medical center etc. 15
