SCHOOL - HOME LINK Ref No: 04/2015 1. WELCOME BACK July & August Issue Welcome to a new term! I hope all parents have the opportunity to spend meaningful time with your child during the June holidays. I encourage all CCKSians to start the term well with a positive and diligent work attitude and persevere to achieve your desired outcomes. Semester 2 is typically a busy period for both staff and students, primarily for our Secondary 4 & 5 CCKSians because of the various national examinations. This term, we will also be looking forward to many exciting commemorative events including our National Day. While it is important for our students to keep their focus on their studies, it is also equally important to participate wholeheartedly and have fun in the many events the school has lined up for them for a more holistic school experience. School events are opportunities for everyone to put aside work, to come together to unwind, bond and celebrate as one big family. I look forward to everyone participating enthusiastically in these upcoming events. 2. THE GCE O AND N LEVEL ORAL & LISTENING COMPREHENSION EXAMINATIONS 2015 The GCE O Level Mother Tongue (MT) Oral Examinations and the N Level EL Oral Examinations will commence on 2 Jul and 6 Jul respectively. Your child will be briefed on the procedures for the sitting of the examinations. Please take note of the following important examination dates for graduating students in Term 3. Your child must take these examinations seriously as both the Oral and Listening Comprehension papers constitute 20% to 50% of the total marks. For the N Level EL Oral Examination, the paper constitutes 20% of the total marks. 1

GCE O Level (Sec 4E5N) Date Time Examination 2 14 Jul 2015 2 pm onwards CL, ML & TL Oral 21 Jul 2015 2:30 pm CL Listening Comprehension 4:30 pm ML& TL Listening Comprehension 13 Aug to 27 Aug 2015 2 pm onwards EL Oral GCE N Level (Sec 4N) Date Time Examination 6 Jul to 13 Jul 2015 2 pm onwards EL Oral 28 Jul to 31 Jul 2015 2 pm onwards CL, ML & TL Oral Do note that electronic devices (e.g. pocket PC, PDA), communication devices (e.g. mobile phones, smart watches) and computerised aids (e.g. computerised wrist-watches) capable of storing and displaying visual and verbal information are strictly prohibited during the examinations and in the holding rooms. Students who contravene the regulation may be awarded a T grade for dishonesty. All papers registered by the students, including Oral and Listening Comprehension, are compulsory components. Students will be awarded an Absent grade for the entire subject if they are absent from one or more papers of that subject, including Oral and Listening Comprehension. It is therefore important that you remind your child to take note of the dates and times for the various examinations and be punctual on those days. 3. AFTERNOON LESSONS Afternoon lessons for our students started from Term 3 Week 1. The schedule of afternoon lessons can also be found on the school website. 4. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES With effect from this term, co-curricular activities are scheduled on Fridays and the odd week of every Wednesdays of school term. This adjustment of time apportioned to co-curricular activities is to bring it back to the norm. The re-balancing of time allocation allows students to have more time in other programmes to be developed in other equally important domains. 5. SCHOOL NOTIFICATION AND ATTENDANCE APPLICATION (SNAAPP) The School will be using a mobile application for attendance taking and sending notification to parents. The name of the mobile application is School Notification and Attendance App (SNAAPP). SNAAPP is supported by IOS and Android and there is also a web version (http://mggsoftware.com\snaapp). SNAAPP allows school to send important messages to parents and notifies parents when their child is absent or late for school. Do note that all notifications or messages will be school-initiated. Parents would need to download the free application from Apple App Store or Android Play Store in order to receive our notifications through SNAAPP. As notification through SNAAPP is free of charge for the school, we would like to appeal to all parents to install SNAAPP. 2

After installing the application, you will be prompted for a UserID and password. Please key in the following: UserID: <Child s I/C_p1> or <Child s I/C_p2> (e.g. T1234567A_p1) Password: 123456 (Default) For a detailed installation guide, please visit the school website at http://www.chuachukangsec.moe.edu.sg/partners/useful-information-for-parents/snaapp 6. HOME-BASED LEARNING ON 21 JUL Home-Based Learning (HBL) for our Secondary 1 to 3 students will be conducted on 21 Jul (Tue). All Sec 1 to 3 students will be required to log on to the school learning portal from 9 am to 3 pm on that day for their online lessons instead of coming to school. Arrangements will be made for students who do not have computer or internet access from home to use the computer facilities in school. HBL is conducted to ensure that all students are familiar with the procedures in the event of school closure. A webpage (http://www.chuachukangsec.moe.edu.sg/hbl) will be created within the school website to provide students with detailed instructions on what they need to do. Please note that this webpage will only be accessible on that day. 7. RACIAL HARMONY COMMEMORATION ON 22 JUL The school will be commemorating Racial Harmony Day on 22 Jul (Wed). This year, we are Going Vintage and students are encouraged to wear costumes of the year 1965 to school that day. As part of the commemoration, CCKSians will have an opportunity to participate in the different cultural activities that both the NE Committee and the Mother Tongue department have prepared on that day. Students will be able to learn and experience the various cultures in Singapore through these activities. 8. YOUTH DAY & YOUTH DAY DONATIONS Youth Day is on 26 Jul (Sun). As such, the following Mon (27 Jul) will be a school holiday. In conjunction with Youth Day, our students are encouraged to make donations to the Community Chest to instill in them the values of caring for and sharing with the less privileged in our society. This Youth Day appeal is supported by the Ministry of Education. We would like to encourage all students to donate a part of their allowances, in any amount, for this good cause. We seek your support in this appeal. We will distribute the donation envelope to your child on 20 Jul (Tue). If your child would like to make a donation, please place the donation in the envelope and return it to his/her Form Teacher by 24 Jul (Fri). 9.
