Your encouragement, support and active involvement at the school is a major reason why Capitol Hill is such a wonderful place to be. The school year was exciting and full of learning. I noticed a record number of students participating and engaged in a variety of services, school spirit days, clubs and sport activities. This participation defines and contributes to our school culture. I am extremely proud of our school community (teachers, support and custodial staff) for they put their souls into teaching and helping students become life-long learners. Our staff worked really hard to make this a fun place to learn, making strong student connections, creating a positive school climate while at the same time maintaining high standards for student learning and behaviour. As parents your involvement was greatly appreciated. At school, students have been taught that you will find success, in part, by following your heart, your passion and the willingness to lead by example. At the very heart of this motto, lie the building blocks of successful living. As principal of the school I have tried my best to model this for the staff and students. I leave Capitol Hill with a very heavy heart, as I have enjoyed my 4 1/2 years at the school. There is still much work to be done at the school, but I leave you in very good hands. Mr. Wally Kanno is an experienced administrator who will continue the good work that has been started by the staff and I over the pass several years. Staff changes: it is inevitable that changes occur, whether it is our grade 7 s moving on to high school or students leaving Capitol Hill and attending new schools. Change is a natural occurrence. Congratulations to Mrs. Redmond who was recently appointed as Vice Principal at Rosser elementary, Mrs. Cowan will be moving to Stride as their new Head Teacher, Mrs. Wheeler has taken a job at Inman School, Mrs. McInnes will be joining Mrs. Redmond as she accepted a position at Rosser elementary. Mrs. Barker has accepted a position at Aubrey elementary. Mrs. Veitch, Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Wheatley will be assigned to a new school in the fall, and Mrs. Field will be taking an education leave to finish off her certification to become a teacher librarian. It is with great appreciation that we had the opportunity to work with these outstanding individuals. We wish them all the best! Best of luck to all the grade 7 students as you journey into your high school years. Capitol Hill is a truly exciting school. I want to thank those who took the extra effort to make Capitol Hill a better place this year. On behalf of the Capitol Hill staff, please have a safe and exciting summer. Warmest regards, Kelly Chow Principal
