Education 2017 Facts you need to know
Education 2017 All GCSEs are now reformed to 9-1 qualifications. Your child is expected to stay in education or training until the age of 18. Post 16 course providers are looking for higher grades and there is more competition for places. Universities are taking GCSE grades into consideration. There are fewer university offers available at the lower grades. Modern Apprenticeships are increasing in popularity so applications need to stand out.

Facilitating subjects Facilitating subjects are the subjects most commonly required or preferred by universities to get on to a range of degree courses. They can help students keep their options open when choosing a degree and many of the top universities will ask you to have at least one A- level in a facilitating subject when you apply.
Facilitating subjects What are they? The Russell Group, which represents 24 leading UK universities, has defined facilitating subjects as: English literature Languages (Classic and Modern) Maths& Further Maths Physics, Biology & Chemistry History& Geography
Education 2017 Government reforms to GCSEs. The move to linear assessment (all exams at the end of the qualification). Government reforms to vocational qualifications. They must be rigorous and to the same standard as GCSEs (BTECs now include an externally marked exam). All qualifications we offer will be on the Government s high value qualifications list. No early entry

What Happens Next? Pupils have an assembly tomorrow afternoon Information in pathways booklet on all subjects available on website Pupils can speak to teachers in school Parents can speak to teachers at Progress Evening on the Thursday 9 th February Pupils and parents can attend a careers meeting

What happens next? Pupils complete and return their forms to reception by Monday 13th February.
