Disclosures I have no conflicts of interest to disclose.

Session Objectives Identify components of the Next Accreditation System (NAS) as they apply to Sponsoring Institutions Apply knowledge of new accreditation processes to graduate medical education (GME) oversight Summarize initial findings of the ACGME s Sponsoring Institution 2025 initiative

Next Accreditation System Next Now Accreditation System Use of outcomes in accreditation Annual ACGME review in parallel with annual improvement efforts within Sponsoring Institutions/programs Shift away from fixed administrative processes and toward flexibility Special Review and Annual Institutional Review (AIR): new oversight tools

NAS 2013: Phase 1 2014: Phase 2 2015: Phase 3 Phase 1: Specialty Review Committees (RCs) for Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurological Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Urology. Phase 2: All other specialty RCs. Phase 3: Sponsoring Institutions.

NAS Sponsoring Institutions vs. Programs: Both complete scheduled, annual Accreditation Data System (ADS) submissions. Both receive annual accreditation decisions from RC/IRC. Both are subject to 10-year self study and site visit.* Different timing and content of annual ADS data submissions. Different set of screening data indicators.

Sponsoring Institution 2025 (SI2025)

Sponsoring Institution 2025 18-month project commissioned by the ACGME Board of Directors Led by a 19-member Task Force including DIOs, CEOs, CMOs, residents, public members

Sponsoring Institution 2025 Rapidly changing healthcare system and expectations for Sponsoring Institutions of the present but where are we headed? Need to develop a future vision for characteristics and challenges for accredited Sponsoring Institutions. To guide institutional accreditation and improvement processes.

Information-Gathering Process AEC 2016/2017 Sessions Regional Listening Sessions Other Activities Special Listening Sessions (e.g., Organizations) ACGME Staff Focus Groups Hundreds of Participants

3 Questions 1) Identify up to four aspects of healthcare delivery in the United States in the year 2025 that are most likely to impact graduate medical education.

3 Questions 2) How will these aspects of future healthcare delivery affect the graduate medical education needs of residents and fellows?
