The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous college preparatory program designed for students attending the 11 th & 12 th grades. At Jones High School, students who desire to participate in the IB DP during their Junior and Senior years are expected to participate in the MYP (Pre-IB) program while attending 9 th and 10 th grades. This application information packet is intended for those students planning to attend 9 th grade during the 2015-16 academic school year and intending to join the MYP program. The MYP 9 th grade application, teacher recommendation forms, Jones MYP and IB DP Honor Code, and Declaration Agreement are included. Please demonstrate your motivation and organizational skills by handing in the requested materials on time. It is your responsibility to give the recommendation forms to three of your teachers (English, Math, and a teacher of your choice). It is your responsibility to check in with those teachers periodically to be sure that your recommendations have been completed. Student from Memorial Middle School must submit their completed MYP 9 th grade applications to Mr. Chavis s office. These applications will then be joined with teacher recommendation forms. Submission of a MYP application signed by a parent/guardian indicates permission for the Jones HS IB staff to review your middle school grades/transcripts, attendance, and standardized test scores. If your teacher prefers to submit their recommendation form directly to the JHS IB Office staff, they can email it to the email address in this letterhead. Students currently attending other middle schools within Orange County Public School District are responsible for delivering their JHS MYP 9 th grade application to the IB office (Mrs. K. Brown) at Jones High School. Your application packet must be accompanied by a copy of your middle school grades/transcript, attendance report for this year, standardized test scores, and your letters of recommendation (preferably with each in a separate sealed envelope) from the teacher providing the recommendation. If your teacher prefers to submit their recommendation letter directly to the JHS IB Office staff, they can email it to either of the email addresses included in this letterhead. Completed applications will be reviewed by the JHSIB Application Review Committee during the month of April, 2015. If your application was received on time, you will be notified of the outcome of that review as soon as possible thereafter and no later than May 1, 2015. We wish you well in the application process. Instructions to the 9 th Grade IB DP Applicant Please follow the steps below. It is your responsibility to fill out the forms fully, correctly and return them to the Jones High School IB Office Mrs. Kyra Brown. In this packet you will find: Instructions to the IB DP Applicant 9 th grade IB DP application Teacher Recommendation Forms (for English, Math, and a teach of your choice) Step 1 Download the Jones High School MYP Program application from the IB page of the Jones High School s website: http://www.joneshigh.ocps.net. You can find this document under the IB Program tab and MYP/IB applications sections. In the event of any difficulties accessing the application, please contact Mrs. Kyra Brown at 407-835-2300 ext. 6092239 to request that the information be emailed to you. Step 2 Upon your decision to apply, please PRINT your name and address on the JHSIB application and complete the rest of the form in your own handwriting, answering the questions in such a way that the IB DP Application Committee will get to know you better. Then have a parent/guardian read and sign it. Meeting deadlines is essential to success in the IB DP. Step 3 PRINT your name and the name of the teacher who will complete your recommendation on each of the Teacher Recommendation Forms. Give the appropriate recommendation forms to your English and Math teachers and a third teacher of your choice. It will be in your best interest to allow teachers as much time as possible by giving them the recommendation form as soon as you can. It is your responsibility to check with the teachers to ensure that they have completed the form for you. Your recommendation forms should be submitted each in a separate sealed envelope from the teacher providing the recommendation. If your teacher prefers to submit their recommendation for directly to Mrs. Kyra Brown, they can email it to the email address included in this letterhead. Jones High School MYP & DP IB Honor Code and Declaration Students in the Jones High School MYP and DP IB programs are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic honesty, respect for others, and personal integrity as those are some of the central components of responsible citizenship. All MYP and DP IB students sign the honor code as part of the admission process, and violations of the honor code may result in dismissal from the program. Jones High School strives to provide educational experiences that inspire academic excellence, personal growth and social responsibility. Therefore, the entire JHS community is expected to adhere to JHS Academic Integrity Policy, which was developed in alignment with the International Baccalaureate Organization expectations and guidelines regarding academic honesty and can be found in the JHS student handbook. Jones High School IB MYP & DP Enrollment Policy It is the policy of the Jones High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) that any student accepted into the Jones MYP and/or DP IB Program (IB DP) fully understands the prescribed course load and expectations of the program. If, at any time, the student chooses not to meet the full expectations of the MYP or DP IB, Jones High School has the right to place that student in non-ib courses equivalent to the current courses in which the student is enrolled, if possible. If this change occurs, these students may lose their transfer privileges associated with a magnet transfer and may consequently need to attend his/her home high school. Once an IB students begins IB course work in 11 th grade, that student s grades will be included on the IB track for graduation purposes, whether or not the student remains in the program.
