Homework: it s the one thing every student dislikes most about school. Most people find it difficult and time-consuming, while others could just zip right through it. However quickly you get it done, though, the most important thing is to just do it; and do it on time. A good homework average can really boost up your regular average in that class. Normally, if you miss a homework assignment, you can make it up the next day for partial credit. Some classes don t do that, though, and usually homework counts for three to five points each. Homework can affect your average drastically if you choose to ignore it, but it also brings up your grade when you choose to do it. If you think that you missed a couple of homework assignments or you think your average isn t that high, ask your teacher if there is any extra-credit assignments you can do to bring up your grade. Small things like these can really raise your grade, even if it s only by one or two points. Especially in middle school and high school, each grade counts, and it s important to keep them high. One of the most important things to remember is to always do your homework. Some teachers give you a lot of homework and class work, but you have to keep in mind that you will benefit from it and it will help you do better in that class. Studying will improve your knowledge and make you smarter as well. This can also result in extra practice, and will prepare you for the finals week at the end of the year. During this time, every student here at MAMS takes a very big test on several specific subjects. It counts as one fifth of your overall grade. Every student wants to do well on finals, so do you school work and you will be well prepared for finals. There are eight different subjects. There are about five major subjects: math, English, social studies, science and whatever language you plan on taking. Most every subject gives homework. Sometimes they give big assignments and sometimes they give smaller assignments. You do not get as many projects as you do in elementary school, but you still get a lot. Homework counts a lot toward your grade and can make your average very low if it is not completed. Also, do not to wait until the last minute to do your homework because that doesn t work in middle school. If you do not complete your homework, most teachers will let you hand it in the next day for half credit. If you don t hand it in, it will result in a zero and your teachers will be very disappointed in you. Homework is a common worry and stress for students going into middle school. You fear it is too much work to do, and you wonder to yourself if you will even be able to complete it. With the right tips homework will be easier and a more bearable activity. One thing you need to make sure to do is to not save all of your homework until late at night. Instead of watching TV right when you get home, when you get home you should start your homework. Now when it is late at night, instead of doing homework, you can relax. It is important to be organized with your homework. You

should put your homework in a place you know you can find. An example of this would be a folder. This will make sure when you need to show your homework to your teachers you can find it right away. Another good tip is to catch up on your homework at lunch. One good stressor for Merrick Avenue Middle School is homework. It sounds like a bomb that is dropped on you daily, to take up six hours after school, the rest of your day. Homework is not even close to that, though, and it is very easily overcome. Homework is assigned basically every day, and it shouldn t be too different from the elementary school homework system. First of all, just doing the homework is the most common and sensible solution. Homework is not something to take up the rest of your day and have you working all night, and it shouldn t take more than a few hours. It is a review of your current subject, and doing it helps you memorize, review, and summarize the current subject. Even if it is missed, it is still possible to complete it another time, but that isn t the best option unless you are absent during the day the homework is assigned. Second, if the work seems impossible, you can simply refer to a book or check the Internet. Even if you can t find the answer, doing it and trying your best to do it helps a lot, not to mention doing homework counts toward a grade. As boring as it sounds, after completing it, you are free to continue with whatever is going on in life, and simply completing it can help you do so. Even though homework is vital, you can manage when you do the work for certain classes that you would have every other day. As you increase in grade level in school, it is common knowledge that you get more homework. Each team is different because the teachers are different. Therefore, you will probably get a different amount of work than some of the other teams. Compared to elementary school, there is a lot more work, so here are some helpful tips about homework. Since all of the teachers are different, they do their grading differently. Some teachers take off five points, and some take off less for missing homework. Either way, it is always important to do your homework because it helps you understand the subject and material more. Also, if you don t do it, there are unnecessary points taken off of your homework average. But what happens if you don t understand the homework? You should ask a friend who is on your team! Asking a friend is very helpful because they can explain it to you and they can take their time with it unlike some teachers sometimes. Also, if your friend needs help, you can help them. So remember: always do your homework! Most kids going into seventh grade don t realize how much homework and tests there will be. Doing your homework and studying won t be as hard if you follow these tips. In middle school expect to get homework in every class. You will especially get homework in math! You should do your homework because you will get lots of tests and quizzes. If you do your homework every day then it will be easier to study for tests. Also your homework grade could hurt you or benefit you a lot. Most teachers will give you a quiz when your class is halfway through the lesson. They do this so you can have an idea on what to study for on the test. Then, at the end of the

lesson, your teacher will give you a test on everything you learned in the lesson. If you study your notes and quizzes, you are almost guaranteed to pass. During the middle of the school year you will get a midterm, and at the end of the year you take finals. They aren t as scary or as hard as they seem. Most of your teachers will give you review guides and packets to study from. Doing your homework will help you understand what you re learning in class during your years here at MAMS! In middle school, homework can be very stressful. Homework in middle school can be more plentiful than in elementary school. To avoid being stressed with homework you can do your homework at lunch for the next day. This way, you have more time to study after school. Also, do not put things off until the last minute, because you will probably end up with a bad grade. Instead, you should do a little bit each day. You should always complete your homework, even though you may get a lot of homework. If you cannot finish it, just try your hardest. There are always consequences if you do not do your homework. Penalties range from points off your homework average (counts as a quiz grade) to points off your average! Occasionally, detention is given out to those who do not do their homework on a constant basis. If you always do your homework, you will have that extra grade to bring up your average. Homework can help you study for your finals at the end of the year. Homework is a stressful characteristic of middle school. There is homework, homework, and more homework. It can be very stressful when you have a billion things for homework and a project due in two days and a test the next day. However, if you just plan your time, you will get everything done in a short amount of time and be ready for your extracurricular activities. Homework is easy to take care of as long as you work at the top of your ability. You might think because you missed homework in the past, it didn t affect your grade, but now a homework grade for the quarter is a unit test. Each homework you miss is five points off your average in that class. So if you were that student who didn t bother with homework in the past, get on top of your homework now. One concern students might have about coming to MAMS is the homework. Homework is important to do because it counts into your overall grade. You will start off with a 100 as a grade for homework, and every time you forget to do one, the teacher will take points off. The teachers don t want to hear all the excuses you might have. They just want you to say, I forgot it at home and I ll make it up tonight. Some teachers might give you half the points back and others won t. You will also have to manage your time well. Some nights you will have more homework than others. You should definitely use the planner the school provides for you to keep track of all the homework. Doing your homework is one key to success in middle school.

You should always do your homework. You may not think it will count for much, but it adds up. Every time you miss your homework, most of the teachers will take points off of your homework grade. At the end of the quarter your homework grade is averaged into your overall grade. To know what you have for homework, you should write it down once you get into class. In the beginning of the year, you get an agenda where you write everything you need to know down. If you lose your agenda or if it gets damaged, you can buy a new one in the main office. Sometimes you have to pay for it, but other times you don t. In mostly every class you will have homework. Your team teachers try to communicate about homework because they know you have lives besides school. Teachers give homework to make sure you understand what was going on in class and for extra practice. If you know what is going on in class it should be very easy. If you zone out in class, even just for a minute, you will definitely be lost on the lesson. So pay attention! But if you don t understand something, stay after school. Homework is an easy hundred. Homework is a necessity in every school, especially in MAMS (Merrick Avenue Middle School). Here s advice to survive in middle school: always do it! If not, the teachers take points off your average. Also, every student should do their homework early. Many students get distracted because of the TV shows, the computer, and many other things. You will never start your homework if you get distracted. The homework is very little and if you do it early, you can go outside. Homework can boost up your average or it can lower it; choose wisely. If you play sports, adding academics to the mix may make many sixth graders feel nervous. You wonder if the work will be hard or if the teachers are mean. Middle school isn t as bad as you think. However, you need to do your homework no matter what. If you miss homework, it negatively affects your average but if you make it up, you get half the credit back. However annoying you think homework may be, it is still incredibly helpful. Also, pay attention in class. The teachers are very helpful and keep you learning at a good pace. However, once you start to not pay attention, you may miss something important and fall behind. A little fun fact a teacher says may end up being the extra credit on a test. Remember to do what you re supposed to and you ll survive middle school. When starting a new year at school, one thing no one looks forward to is homework. It is extremely important to hand in all your homework on time. Your teachers don t

always give you so much homework, so you should do all of your homework. Most of the time, the maximum amount of time it takes you to do your homework is about an hour. Also make sure you don t rush your homework or guess your answers. You never know when the teacher will collect your homework. Taking that hour to do your homework is very important and it will help you review for a test. One of the biggest fears some kids have when entering middle school are things like tests, homework, and quizzes. While you may be hearing things that make it sound like you ll be doing homework for hours, and having tests every day, it s not necessarily true. You do get tests more often and you may have more than one test a day, but you ll get used to it. As for homework, it really depends on the teacher. But in seventh grade, you ll get less than you do in eighth. Most of the time they re simple assignments that can be finished altogether in two to three hours tops. It also depends on the team; some teams get more work than others. Remember to do homework and study for tests because it counts a lot! A topic that upcoming students at MAMS worry about is homework. One tip is to make sure you do it. The teachers check it every day and it counts a lot toward your final grade for the quarter. Also make sure you write your homework down in an agenda so you don t forget to complete anything. Some teachers give homework on the weekends, but you usually won t get that much.
