ST JOSEPH S PRIMARY SCHOOL TRAFALGAR Independent, collaborative And innovative learners 58 Waterloo Road, Trafalgar 3824 Ph. 03 56331151 E: office@trafalgar.catholic.edu.au Website: www.trafalgar.catholic.edu.au Newsletter No. 12 18 th August 2017 Dear families, We have had a wonderful week at school, with the Assumption Mass and interviews on Tuesday, excursion to Melbourne Museum on Wednesday and Gymnastics and Toastie Day on Thursday. School is never boring, we always have something exciting happening. We would like to thank Lauren Francis, Jane Speed and Kylee Eerhard for working hard to make sure the Toastie Day was a success. P & F Social Evening This Saturday night we have a wonderful parent social night at school. $30 a ticket and this gives you entry into the major cash draw. Please come and help us celebrate. The major cash draw will be at 9.30pm. Even if you can only come for an hour or so, please feel welcome! Each class has produced a magnificent piece of artwork (thank you so much Ms Kathy Grass for coordinating this). These pieces of artwork will be auctioned on Saturday night. If you are interested in purchasing one of the pieces and you don t think you will be at the social night but you would like to put in a bid, please let the office staff know or Naomi Walsh. Safety Safety is always on our agenda at school. Our car line operates particularly well but we all need to remember that we must turn left onto Waterloo Road. There is no right turn there at the end of the school day. The Trafalgar Police are very keen to make sure this rule is followed so they may well turn up at the end of a school day to check on this safe operation. So please everyone, remember that we can only turn left at the end of the car line. This is of course to allow for safe operation on our roads. Book Week Dress Up This Thursday August 24 th is Book Week Dress Up Day. Please feel welcome to come dressed as a character from a book. We ask you to bring a gold coin donation for the privilege of dressing up and this money will be used to buy new beanbags for reading time at lunchtimes on Tuesday and Thursday. Sheridan Jacobs and Bianca McCutcheon have organised reading time at lunchtimes and it is proving popular and enjoyable. There will be a parade at 9am. Family Life Program Gr 1 & 2 night will be this Monday August 21 st at 6.30pm. If you would like to join us for pizza at 6pm you are very welcome. The teachers will use class dojo to work out numbers for catering purposes. Our family life program has been successful. Front Entrance In the coming days we will have the front of our school sectioned off so we can build a flash front entrance and organise a soft front garden. For most of the time we will have access to the car line gate. There might be a few days that all the front will be out of bounds, but in this case we will walk the children out the gate near the parish centre and walk around to the car line. We think we will be able to make it work without too much fuss. Woolworths Earn and Learn Program If you would like to collect stickers for us you are welcome. We support our local IGA in Trafalgar firstly, but if families also support Woolworths anyway and consequently want to support us through their sticker program, we are happy for you to do so.

There will be a box for our school at the Moe store and we also have a box at school if you would like to send the sticker sheets into school. Father s Day We thank God for our Dads and we appreciate that they play a very important role in our families. On Monday September 4 th we will gather at school at 8am for a special breakfast with our Dads and at 9am we will celebrate a liturgy in the Mary MacKillop room. We hope you can join us. Order forms for breakfast will come out soon. IPads We are using the ipads to enhance our learning. Pictured below are our Grade 3 & 4 Students collaborating in their R.E. & Literacy blocks. Children researched and summarised facts about Mary MacKillop to present their Keynote Presentation to fellow classmates! May God continue to bless and guide us in our learning.. Mrs Trish Mulqueen Principal Thanks Lillee for hosting our Berry Street Fundraiser, you collected $69.55 for your charity and demonstrated that positive action can help us to alleviate pain & suffering in our community. Winner of the Jellybean Jar is Blake Dunston *Don t eat them all at once Blake!

Thanks to all Parents who assisted with our special school lunch yesterday, we really appreciated it on such a chilly week! 19 th August P & F Social Fundraising Event 7pm 11pm $30 a ticket Tickets can be purchased on the night! (Includes supper/music & entry into major cash drawer) Please encourage your friends & family to come as money raised will go towards establishing an outdoor learning area in the courtyard. Pictured below are some of the class artwork available for Auction on the night! Thanks Kathy Grass, we are lucky to have such talent in our school! For further details please contact Naomi Walsh on 0409 931 848
