INTRODUCTION Xianning University (XNU) is a provincial comprehensive university with a history of more than 70-year school running. Conveniently located in Xianning City, which is considered to be the home of osmanthus trees and the back garden of Wuhan, the university is set amidst beautiful surroundings, and was graded Excellence in 2007 by the Ministry of Education in the undergraduate teaching evaluation. Building on a solid undergraduate foundation and threeyear college education, the university has extended into several postgraduate fields. There are 33 undergraduate specialties and 20 three- year specialties covering economics, education science, humanities, history, science, engineering, medical science and management through years of development. There are 18 departments, 5 affiliated hospitals, 51 clinical practice hospitals, 108 teaching practice bases, 1 provincial demonstration center of experimental teaching, 1 key discipline of provincial level and 2 provincial-level specialties. The university covers 306 acres with 576,200 square meters of construction area. Its teaching facilities reach 82,784,000 yuan, the library houses 1,755,600 volumes of books and magazines. There are 2944 computers for teaching purpose, 18742 seats in multimedia classrooms and language labs. There are 15,439 full-time enrolled students and 858 professional faculty members, 25 of whom are doctoral and master supervisors, 297 professors and associate professors, 436 doctors and masters. XNU is qualified for the enrollment of overseas students. It has established friendly and cooperative relationships with institutions in India, Australia, South Korea and USA.
