Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Aviation Management (Part-time) 2 Coventry University in the United Kingdom, through the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) offers a 2-year, part-time programme leading to the BSc (Hons) in Aviation Management. Coventry University The history of Coventry University can be traced back over 170 years. The academic structure of the University comprises four faculties: Faculty of Engineering Environment and Computing; Faculty of Business and Law; Faculty of Health and Life Sciences; and Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Currently around 24,000 students are studying at Coventry University. There are about 200 academic staff and 150 support staff in The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing. The Faculty offers a broad range of programmes within the field of Engineering and Computing, including Foundation, BSc, BEng, MSc and MBA, as well as a range of research programmes. The programmes are highly regarded by many companies for their practicality and are based on a sound theoretical foundation to help students achieve their maximum potential. The close links established between staff and students serve to develop and foster an enhanced intercultural understanding, engendering confidence in the quality of the provision in the process. The findings of the audit supports a conclusion of confidence in Coventry s stewardship of academic standards and in its oversight of the quality of the students experience on its overseas collaborative provision. Coventry University has been crowned the Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards, and has also won the Outstanding Support for Students award for a joint submission with Loughborough University in recognition of the institutions collaborative maths support centres. Recently, Coventry University has been rated the Modern University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015. About the Programme The Full-time mode of this progamme has already been launched in 2007. In response to the increasing training demand of the industry, the Programme Team has officially launched the programme in Part-time mode in September 2011. We have recruited talented part-time students who are working in different managerial and functional roles of a range of well-known companies and airlines, such as Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd., Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Dragonair. There were over 140 full-time and part-time students studying on this programme in 2014-2015. Programme Aims and Objectives The aims of the programme are: To provide students with the knowledge and skills required to deal with management problems in aviation related industries through exploring the inter-dependence between air-transport and logistics operations; To give particular emphasis to the use of analytical techniques in tackling current and future issues in the industry from an international perspective; To enhance students lifelong-learning skills for personal development and contribution to the society at large. Students visiting the Air Traffic Control Tower

Student Support from CityU Teaching will be delivered mainly by CityU full-time academic staff and experienced industry practitioners with input to teaching from Coventry University. The programme will be held at SCOPE Kowloon Tong Learning Centre and SCOPE Tsim Sha Tsui East Learning Centre. Students will be provided with access to CityU s Library (including electronic resources) and Computing Services Centre located on campus. In order to further benefit the students, two Add-vantage modules focusing on the key transferrable skills of English and communication are designed to improve students employability. Module details, module combination and teaching sequence are subject to revision by Coventry University. # Choose 1 Module Option Programme Delivery The programme will normally span 6 trimesters. Each trimester follows a regular structure of 12 weeks. Lecturers from Coventry University will attend the orientation at the start of the programme and play an important role in preparing the students for the Honours Degree Project. They work alongside academic staff from CityU so as to ensure the students best chance of success. 3

Curriculum Outline 200ADD Add-vantage (English) This module is for non-native speakers of English. The aims of this module are to encourage students to use the structures of language with ease and fluency and deal with a variety of written sources with ease and efficiency, to develop these language skills to a point where they can function quite effectively and without significant problems in academic and professional contexts and to develop their listening and speaking skills to a level where they are accurate and successful on most occasions, and can effectively find other words and expressions when they do not know the exact words. 207KM Transport and Logistics Management The module will enable students to develop an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts of transportation, supply chain management (SCM) and logistics management. They will learn the objectives of efficient transportation, SCM including achieving high productivity, high quality and seamless transfer of information, products and services between each stage of the supply chain and ultimately to the satisfaction of the customer. 209KM Introduction to Research Methods Students will gain an introduction to using literature, research design, and methods for data collection and analysis. The module is intended to underpin final stage projects. This module provides part of the background needed to undertake, at final year degree level, research including quantitative and qualitative research methods. Successful students should be able to demonstrate that they understand the concepts and how they should be applied to the production of a project proposal and a project. 298EKM Aviation Safety, Security & Emerg. Planning The module explores current approaches through applicable regulations to aviation safety and security, Safety Management Systems (SMS), human factors and the use of technology to safety and security issues applicable to aircraft, airports, flights and airline operations. It further considers essential procedures for coping with air and ground emergencies and includes an Emergency Response Planning workshop. 300ADD Add-vantage Module (Effective Communication) The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the principles and techniques which will assist them to enhance personal communication skills, and to require them to analyse and apply appropriate communication strategies. Participants will be given the opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment and reflect on current performance and future development need. Students who undertake this module may be in a stronger position to secure employment. Cross-sector employers have identified effective communication as an essential skill they look for when recruiting graduates. 351EM Project Management This module introduces learners to project management and equips them with skills, both human and technical, that will enable them to lead and work on a variety of projects. The importance of de facto project management scheduling skills, quality and estimating standards is emphasised, however, learners are encouraged from the outset to see the role of the project manager within the broader perspective of strategic business management, understanding where projects come from and why they are selected. The module also covers the use of Project Management software for creating, analysing, and monitoring projects. 307EKM Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management The aim of this module is to bring together all the elements of logistics in the management of the global supply chain. The module examines a variety of approaches to the management of logistics operations that can be used to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the integrated global supply chain. Issues relating to international trade and payments are examined together the concept of the global customer. 392EKM Aviation Strategy and Planning The module explores the application of business strategy principles and practice within the aviation industry with specific reference to current developments in the ownership and operation of international and national airline and airport businesses. 395AAE Human Factors in Aviation The aim of this module is to develop a broad understanding of the area of Human Factors and the application of the concepts within the aviation industry. This is achieved through the study of the human systems integration approach, fundamentals of applied psychology and human factors, organisation/non-technical skills, decision making and human error, human factors engineering, performance shaping factors, and an introduction to introductory human factors methods. 396EM Airline Operations and Scheduling This module aims to enable students to understand, analyze and improve airline operations and planning related to the airline dynamic environment. It adopts a practical approach to outline the functions, processes and relationships of airline operations. The various factors that affect the operations and management of international and regional airlines have been analysed. It introduces both simulation and analytical techniques and/or methods relevant for optimising airline network flow and scheduling, route structure and planning, fleet planning and assignment, crew scheduling, maintenance scheduling, gate assignment and aircraft load planning. 330EKM Project The main aim of the individual final year project is to give students experience in carrying out a substantial piece of work to a professional standard. Objectives of the exercise are to become an `expert in a specialised field of study to develop skills and experience in report writing and presentation to integrate knowledge gained in different course modules to exercise initiative, creativity and imagination. 4

The weighting of these two components varies among modules. September 2016 Entry Requirement Students have to take 180 credits in 2 years Candidates should possess an HD/AD in aviation or logistics-related discipline OR a professional license such as licensed maintenance engineer or commercial pilot. Graduates of Community College of City University AD in Airport Operations and Aviation Logistics will be granted exemption from 207KM Transport and Logistics Management (20 credits) and 200ADD Addvantage Module (English) (10 credits).
