Be as complete as possible so that your advisor can best serve your needs. Bring this form with you to the conference with your college counselor and your family. What kind of academic challenge seems appropriate to your interests and abilities? Perhaps it helps to think about the rigor of Raleigh Charter s curriculum: do you want more of a challenge in college? Less? About the same? How important are class size, availability of professors, and other academic factors? Are you interested in pursuing athletics in college? If so, in what sport(s) and at what level (Division I, Division II, Division III, intramural)? Are there activities (e.g. student government, publications, Amnesty International) which you want to continue in college or perhaps try there for the first time? Are you interested in internships, study abroad or other special programs? Please elaborate. Does religious affiliation matter to you? Would you like to be at a school with such a connection or do you prefer a secular institution? Do you have any interest in Greek life? How important is fraternity or sorority membership to you, especially given the context of the institution (e.g. a state school with a strong Greek presence or a small college without it)? How important is institutional prestige? Are there characteristics to avoid? 3

Depending on your status, would you consider a men s college, a women s college and/or a historically black institution? Are there other factors that might come into play in the college process? Native American? Alumni connections? Family employed by university? First generation college student? Other? How important will cost be in the final selection of a college? What other criteria not already mentioned are important to you? What kind of place do you think your family wants for you? What kind of place would they probably prefer you not attend? Have you experienced any college campuses already, through summer camps, family vacations, etc.? If so, which schools have you seen? What specific schools are you already considering or would like to see on your list? Do some basic research about the admission standards for the institutions you listed in the question above. Use college guidebooks available in the College Counseling Office; personal exposure; wordof-mouth; Naviance etc. Think about your own strengths and interests, the quality of your high school transcript, any standardized test scores, etc. Based on college and personal information, how would you rank the institutions you listed above?
