BULLETIN Wednesday 12th April Term 1 Week 11 2017 Dad was a bit of a hobby farmer. What s on in Term 2 In his early twenties Dad tied the knot with mum and they bought a property with too many almond trees, a few pigs, a couple of cows and lots of sand. WEEK 1: Fri 5 May Returns Monday 1 May Worship & Praise with Mr Boesch Dad would get home from building and go to his job as a farmer until well after everyone else was in bed. And so we grew up hating January - almond knocking time At the end of each shift we had to bag up and march the wheat bags full of almonds and orb spiders back to the shed. Usually 4 or 5 return trips and the hessian bags on bare shoulders were rough and irritating. Many years after mum and dad had sold the farm we reminisced over those days and the question was asked why didn t we just use the tractor to pick up the bags? Dad replied with an expressionless face, because it was good for you.. This week is Holy Week as we track the story of Jesus triumphant march into Jerusalem through to Good Friday - It s the story of Jesus carrying His cross and the sins of the world. Carrying the burden that should have been ours. And I think Easter is a bit like a cross road. We can march down the easy and appealing road lined with chocolates and holidays or we can stand on the side of a cobbled and dirty lane watching as the Son of God carries an enormous load - not because it was Good for Him. But because it was Good for us. To MISS CLARK (Year 3 teacher) Last week Miss Clark was travelled to Sydney to represent South Australia at the 2017 Grand National Show Horse Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in Horsley Park. She was very excited to qualify and have the opportunity to attend this event. Whilst she did not place in the top 3 (there were 35 of the country s best ponies competing in her division), she is very pleased with how she went, is proud of the way her horse performed and feels it was a highly successful experience. Thank you to everyone who passed on their best wishes and to her students who made cards and wrote letters. To DARREN & KATIE COX AND AMANDA WILLIAMS AND THEIR FAMILIES. They participated in the local RELAY FOR LIFE WALK held in Gawler over the weekend, which raises money for the Cancer Council SA. Darren said We had a great weekend (until it was nearly blown and washed away!!) and completed 244 laps of the oval throughout the 19 hour event. Special mention goes to Joseph and Alyssa who did more than their fair share and mostly ran, rather than walked, their laps! Jessie, Madison and Isabelle also put in a fantastic effort to be very proud of. They raised $1100 (of which our school contributed $107 by selling the Zooper Doopers ice-blocks on sports day). APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH Each April, Autism SA along with the Australian Autism community promote Autism Awareness Month. Autism SA has arranged the following events to raise awareness, understanding, acceptance, support, inclusion and selfdetermination to ensure that people on the autism spectrum and their families can get the most out of life. Please check the Autism SA website for more details. http://www.autismsa.org.au/ autism-awareness-month- 2017 NEXT PARENTS & FRIENDS (P&F) MEETING is Thursday 18th May 7.00pm. Held in the staffroom. SPORTS DAY 2017 at Immanuel On Friday 31st March under blue skies Immanuel had its annual sports day. Teamwork and sportsmanship was on display as students enthusiastically participated in a range of running races, individual events and team games. The red team was the eventual winners followed by blue, green and yellow. A special mention goes to the 8 team captains for ably helping to lead and organise their teams. Thanks to the many parents and friends for attending, joining in, and creating a great atmosphere.

LOTS OF FUN AT IMMANUEL IN WEEK 10 YEAR 5 s ENJOY THEIR 2 NIGHT CAMP On Monday 3rd April the Year 5s went on camp to the Mylor Baptist Centre. When we got there we had a talk in the chapel about the rules, then we had recess. After that we went to our dorms to get ready, have lunch and start our activities. Across the 3 days we did activities like Frisbee golf, initiative / team pursuits, bridge building, bouldering wall and low ropes, canoeing, and archery. I think everyone enjoyed the Giant swing and the 200m Flying Fox the most, while the Challenge Course was so, so, so muddy and very fun. On the first night, Mr Wundersitz took us on a night hike through the bush, then we watched a movie on the second night. For dinner we had lasagne on the first night and chicken kebabs and mashed potatoes on the second night. YEAR 1 s GO TO THE ZOO Last Wednesday the year 1 travelled to the Zoo and had a great day.

LOTS OF FUN AT IMMANUEL IN WEEK 10 SCHOOL CRAZY HAIR / CASUAL CLOTHES DAY Thanks to our staff and students for dressing up last Friday 7th April and for your gold coin donations. Over $600 was raised to support the Leukaemia Foundation. Year 6/7 Teacher Mr Ben Jones "braved the shave" as per his promise if we reached over $500. Thank you William and Tia (Yr 7 Parliament students) and Mr Ben Jones for coordinating this event. Great work everyone! EASTER FUN AFTERNOON The Easter Fun Afternoon was enjoyed by an enthusiastic crew of students, parents and grandparents. Thanks for joining in, and supporting the work of the Carers Group at Immanuel! Blessings to all school families for a peaceful Easter Thank you to Kelly Bunyon (coordinator) and our schools lovely group of Class Carers for organising a fun afternoon.
