TAFE Newsletter Texas Association of Future Educators Donita Garza, TAFE State Program Director TAFE State Office, 1833 South IH-35, Austin, TX 78741 Phone (512)443-2100 ext. 230 Fax (512)442-3343 E-Mail: donita@tassp.org Summer 2017 From Our President Alexandra Evans Hi y all! I hope the end of your school year went pleasantly and without stress. While you are enjoying your summer, your 2017-2018 state officer team will be working diligently to perform our duties and offer you a wonderful upcoming year. Last month brought many new friendships and cultivated skills. The Officer Training Retreat in May went splendidly! I was personally touched by my peers and the lifelong friendships I have made. Our abilities as leaders were enhanced by the amazing experience provided. We are so thankful to the Highland Lakes Conference Center and everyone involved in making the leadership camp so fun and exciting. We as officers are also grateful to every TAFE member who attended. We are ecstatic to work with you in the upcoming year. June marks the start of the A&M leadership camp. I m thrilled to see all of you and watch as we become even better leaders. Your State Officers will also be meeting to continue to plan for the upcoming year. Our plans for the State Conference are in full throttle. Love, Teaching, and Rock N Roll has inspired our aesthetic activities that we are currently working towards. I wish the best of luck to our Regional officers, who have the big job of planning their Regional conferences! I know they will make us all proud and provide you a wonderful Regionals this fall. It s the start of Summer, so I know you are filled with relief and excitement. Please, stay safe this summer. Continue to become the best possible educator you may be. School is out right now, but the future is always coming, so let s do all we can in the next 3 months to create an amazing year and generation of teachers. Kudos! Angel Broumley Secretary We would like to extend an enormous TAFE thank you to Highland Lakes campgrounds for allowing us to hold our Officer training camp in a fun, inviting environment. All staff was beyond helpful and showed great hospitality! We would like to thank Mr. Bryan Fiese from Motivated Proformance for being an amazing mentor and speaker; there was never a dull moment. A thank you also goes to all the teacher leaders and students that helped make this a successful, memoryfilled event! Last, but not least, a great warm thank you extends to Mrs. Donita Garza for going above and beyond to ensure this camp was an enjoyable and educational experience for us all. Each bag filled with excitement. TAFE state officers welcome everyone to training camp!

Each officer endures tasks to better themselves which have a learning ability to find new leadership skills. Long nights spent as the 4 officers begin to plan the state conference. Students engage in making a fun rap together about what they learned to ensure they remember the importance of the lessons! This weekend at highland lakes was also filled with a refreshing look into leadership... and fun filled with outdoor activities!

From the Director Donita Garza donita@tassp.org or 512-443-2100 ext 8512 Over the last few years, TAFE has grown and is expected to grow even more as districts as concerned about filling the educator pipeline. While it is nice to have the growth, it brings about challenges and more opportunities. In the financial realm, when stocks split it is good, because it lowers the price of the stock, but you have twice as many stocks. We can apply this to TAFE. When the regions get large, they become harder to manage the numbers. When they are split, the numbers are lower and the region benefits by advancing more students to the state conference. This year during the region meetings at the state conference, two very large regions were split. Region 4 split into 4 North and 4 South. Region 11 split into 11A and 11B. We did not split them to break them up. We split them to make them more manageable and to provide more opportunities for students. I look forward to more TAFE growth and more opportunities for students to develop their leadership and teaching skills. Our Officer Leadership Training Workshop was tremendous! Bryan Fiese from Motivated Proformance conducted the Leadership Training. Mr. Fiese instructed the officers on developing The Leader in You. His presentation and activities included the following topics: Listening Skills, Power Presenting, Dealing with Conflict, Personality Types, Leadership Adversity, Getting your Dream Job, and Take Aim on Your Goal The officers and their advisors were given time to get started on their Regional Conference Planning and develop their team for the upcoming year. Many of the regions have a great start on their conferences for next year. Way to go Region Officers! I would like to thank everyone for a successful and awesome year! We have a few events coming up. The 2017-2018 membership form opened June 1, 2017. If you would like to go ahead and join TAFE or renew you membership, you can. The state affiliation fee is not changing for next year. It will remain at $80.00. Don t forget to pay you affiliation fees. All 2016-2017 memberships expire on August 31, 2017. Educators Rising National Conference is June 23-26, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. Be sure to bring cool clothing. It is supposed to be very hot. We are looking forward to attending the conference. Good luck to all our TAFE national qualifiers! Teacher Leaders Workshop will be held in conjunction with the FCSTAT Conference. It will be on the two pre-conference days, July 31 August 1, 2017. If you are planning on attending the FCSTAT Conference, the cost of the Advisors Workshop is included. If you are only attending the Advisors Workshop, the cost is $100.00.
