ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES AND REQUIREMENTS Admission to the International Master Degree Programme in Engineering of Building Processes and System, curriculum Historic Buildings Rehabilitation requires a 1st cycle Italian degree or equivalent bachelor achieved at legally recognised Institutions in Italy or abroad. It also requires a background in the subjects of Historic Buildings Rehabilitation and in particular: Construction Engineering; Conservation of Historic Buildings; Architecture and Urban Planning; Structural Mechanics. Knowledge of the English language (level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference) is also required, which can be certified by: University of Bologna Linguistic Centre (CLA-UNIBO);

Internationally recognised language certifications, such as TOEFL, IELTS, etc. (minimum scores to be considered equivalent to B2 level being the following: IELTS 5,5; TOEFL PBT 507-557; TOEFL CBT 180-217; TOEFL IBT 80-99; Cambridge First Certificate (FCE); Trinity College of London ISE II), Entitled English schools. Graduates in a degree programme taught in English, English native speakers and graduates in English language and literature or equivalent are exempted from this assessment. The Degree Programme may require students to recover any initial deficit, if their knowledge of the English language is below the B2 level on admission. For Non-EU citizens, an annual quota of places is set each year by the University of Bologna. For the Master Degree Programme in Engineering of Building Processes and System, curriculum Historic Buildings Rehabilitation, in the academic year /2018, a maximum of 40 Non-EU students will be accepted. Please note: no entrance exam and Italian proficiency test is required for the Master Degree Programme in Engineering of Building Processes and System, curriculum Historic Buildings Rehabilitation. Eligibility criteria are specified in Section 4. 2. NON EUROPEAN CITIZENS Non-EU students are foreign citizens from states not belonging to the European Union who are resident abroad at the time of applying for university admission and who are not legally classified as equivalent to Italian/European citizens. Students with an equivalent status to the EU students (EU-assimilated) are: Citizens from Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and the Republic of San Marino; non-eu citizens already holding a residence permit in Italy ( permesso di soggiorno ) for reasons of subordinate or autonomous work, for family reasons, for political asylum or for religious reasons; non-eu citizens who have been resident in Italy for at least one year and are in possession of a degree obtained in Italy; non-eu citizens who are holders of diplomas from Italian schools abroad or foreign or international schools, working in Italy or abroad, subject to bilateral agreements or special regulations for the recognition of degrees that satisfy the general conditions required for the entry for study; political refugees; staff of foreign diplomatic offices (Embassies/Consulates) as well as International Organizations based in Italy - accredited either at the Italian Government or at the Holy See - along with their family members (husband / wife and children);

candidates already holding a valid residence permit for study reasons and are already enrolled in a degree course as long as they have regularly been resident in Italy for one year. All the above mentioned cases are considered equivalent to Italian and EU-citizens, and should apply accordingly. For non-european citizens resident outside the European Union, the regulations and the deadlines for pre-enrolment will be defined by the Ministry of Education, University and Research, with a communication available at the website www.miur.it and www.study-in-italy.it. While waiting for the release of the residence permit, the candidates will be admitted conditionally. The full procedure to be followed by non-eu citizens is described in Section 3. 3. HOW TO APPLY In order to keep the quality of the educational environment, admission to the Master Degree Programme is regulated by a selection process that evaluates the applicants motivation, academic preparation and language ability. Please, note that the application for non-eu citizens is carried out through 3 steps. 3.1. Pre-application This procedure is aimed at releasing an eligibility letter that is necessary for non-eu students as in many countries it is needed to apply for a study Visa for Italy. For EU students, the procedure is anyhow useful to obtain a preliminary evaluation of their eligibility. The pre-application consists in providing to the Historic Buildings Rehabilitation Board the necessary information to check eligibility. The following documents are to be submitted with the pre-application: front and back photocopy of your ID card/passport or other valid identity document; a transcript of records by your Bachelor s University containing a list of the courses with grades (GPA etc.), the name of the final degree and the final grade; documents/certificates stating the personal English skills. If the certification is not available, students need to obtain it during the first year of the master. Curriculum Vitae, including significant academic/work experiences in the field of the Master Degree. A personal statement of motivation (max 1 page); Non-compulsory additional documents : Two recommendation letters.

Pre-enrolment application at the Italian Embassy (just for non-eu Students) Non-EU students, while they are applying for the master shall immediately (anyway before the deadline defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) get in touch with the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their home country and apply to the Pre-enrolment procedure at the University of Bologna to the Master Degree programme in Engineering of Building Processes and System, curriculum Historic Buildings Rehabilitation, for the given academic year. Application should be made to obtain the Declaration of Value (in Italian Dichiarazione di valore ) and the entry Visa for Study reasons (in Italian: "visto per motivi di studio"). A pre-admission letter may be required from the Embassy; this can be obtained through the pre-application described at the previous Section 3.1 (students are invited to check at the Embassy what documents are required). Attention should be paid at the deadline, which is strictly fixed, usually in June. Students are requested to check the deadline at their Italian Embassy. EU-citizens holding a degree obtained in the EU but not in Italy, should be aware that a Declaration of Value is needed in order to enrol in University of Bologna. Enrolment at UNIBO Starting from the end of July through the end of December, pre-accepted applicants have to complete the enrolment procedure at the University of Bologna through the website Studenti Online www.studenti.unibo.it, completing the following steps: - Fill in the enrolment form (domanda di immatricolazione). - Complete the payment of the tuition fee (the first instalment rate) by one of these means: on-line, by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Diners, American Express), even if the holder of the credit card is not the candidate; through any UniCredit Bank Agency using the appropriate payment code printed during the online registration (the list of UniCredit Bank agencies is available on the UniCredit website). Payments from different banks agencies are not allowed, neither through bank transfers nor postal offices. - Candidates are expected to provide the following documents to the Students' Administrative Office [link]: Italian, EU citizens, associated countries and non-eu equivalent applicants holding an Italian bachelor degree (Laurea/first cycle degree).

a signed copy of the application form (to be downloaded and printed); the receipt of payment or on-line fee payment report (to be downloaded and printed); 1 (one) front and back photocopy of your ID card or other valid identity document; copy of the residence permit or receipt (only for non-eu equivalent students); qualification and translated transcript of records (EU students may self-certify any qualifications obtained in countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area). Original documents must be translated into Italian or English. Italian, EU citizens, associated countries and non-eu equivalent candidates holding a foreign degree. a signed copy of the application form (to be downloaded and printed); the receipt of payment or on-line fee payment report (to be downloaded and printed); 1 (one) front and back photocopy of your ID card or other valid identity document; 1 (one) passport sized photo; qualification and translated transcript of records (EU students may self-certify any qualifications obtained in countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area); Declaration of Value issued by the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the applicants' home country (or the Diploma Supplement, for qualifications obtained in countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area); copy of the residence permit (only for non-eu equivalent students). Original documents must be translated into Italian or English. Non-EU citizens resident abroad. a signed copy of the application form (to be downloaded and printed); the receipt of payment or on-line fee payment report (to be downloaded and printed); copy of the passport and Visa for study reasons; copy of the residence permit or receipt, confirming the application for the permit; qualification and transcript of records (both legalized and translated); Declaration of Value issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the applicants' home country; 2 (two) passport size photos, one of which has to be validated by the Embassy. Original documents must be translated into Italian or English. Important: Applicants holding a foreign qualification will be allowed to enrol conditionally on the legal validity of their bachelor degree, which is officially declared by the Italian Authorities in the country where it has been awarded. Therefore, enrolment is subject to the full compliance of the above procedure. General notes that apply to all the enrolments During the enrolment phase a final check is made on the eligibility of the applicants.

Candidates who have not completed yet their first level degree (Bachelor) may apply, but they must graduate by December 31 of the year in which they apply, otherwise their application will be discarded. The documentation submitted is subject to the Italian Presidential Decree 445/2000. The candidates must be aware as well of the penalties laid down by the article 496 of the Italian Penal Code in case of false statements and false certifications. 4. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA You can find the information about the criteria for the evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae hereunder. If one of the requirements below is not fulfilled, the Board of the Master Degree Programme may admit the student on the basis of an assessment of the whole career and through a possible interview. The need to be submitted to the interview will be communicated to the student with an e-mail at his/her personal Unibo address (name.surname@studio.unibo.it) and a timetable of interviews will be published on the HBR web site. 4.1. Students who earned a bachelor degree in Italy Students are expected to fulfil curriculum requirements and additional requirements on the adequacy of the academic preparation. Curriculum requirements Students who hold an Italian First-level degree should have earned a minimum number of credits in specific scientific fields as follows: Credits in ING-INF/05, ICAR/17, ICAR/18 ICAR/19 SSD - n. of credits 15, and Credits in ICAR/10 - ICAR/11 - ICAR/12 - ICAR/14 - ICAR/20 - ICAR/21 - ICAR/22 ING-IND/35 SSD - n. of credits 18, and Credits in ICAR/06 - ICAR/07 - ICAR/08 - ICAR/09 SSD - n. of credits 8 or Italian First-level degree belonging to class L-7, L-17, L-23 (ex DM 270/2004) Ministerial Decree 270 or to class 04, 08 (ex DM 509/99). Adequacy of the academic preparation Students should prove their knowledge of English language (level B2) as specified in Section 1 above. Please note that TOEFL or IELTS certificates are required to apply for Tongji University for participating in the Dual Degree Programmes (these certificates can be earned during the first year of the Master).

4.2. EU and non-eu Students who earned a bachelor degree abroad The fulfilment of the curriculum requirements and the adequacy of the academic preparation are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Board of the Master Degree Programme. If a credit/grade conversion (for both course contents and hours) to the Italian system is available, the same requirements for students who earned a bachelor degree in Italy are checked. 5. WHEN TO APPLY - Deadlines Applicants will be evaluated on a first-come first-served basis. Therefore, non-eu students are invited to apply as early as possible, starting from February 2015, as their admission is subjected to the number of residual places in the annual quota of places set each year by the Degree Programme (see Section 1). The early application is also important for non-eu students since they have to preenrol through the Italian Embassy-Consulate in their home country; this procedure may take a long time depending on the work load of the Embassy. Early application is also important and for candidates applying for scholarships offered by University of Bologna.
