Dr. Martin thanked the Board for giving him the opportunity to serve as superintendent and stated he appreciated the confidence in him by the Board. Dr. Martin introduced his family and stated they were excited about the upcoming move. He thanked the Board again and stated he would do everything he could to make this the best system it can be. The Board reviewed the following policy to be voted on at the September 30 (October meeting) Board Meeting: Policy 6125-Administering Medicines to Students 7. The Board reviewed the September schedule of activities. Comments Dr. Hobbs discussed the Raleigh Dingman award and ACT scores with the Board. He stated that and Yadkin County s average score was 18.1 and the state average was 18.7. He also informed the Board that Courtney Elementary has once again been named a Title I Award School. Dr. Hobbs discussed with the Board the two matching grants that the legislators had approved one grant is a School Resource Officer grant and the second was a panic alarm system grant. Dr. Hobbs stated that he would send these grants to our county commissioners as both grants were matching grants. Dr. Hobbs stated he would like to congratulate Dr. Martin and stated he hoped he had some influence on his career. He also stated that the Board has chosen an outstanding man for superintendent and a great family. Dr. Hobbs stated that this is the best school system I have worked in and I am going to miss everybody. He also stated he would like to thank the Board because this has truly been the best board I have worked with. In addition, he stated if he could ever help in any way in the future to please give him a call. Howard McKnight thanked Dr. Hobbs for his service. Colton Horn stated things were going well at Forbush High School. He also informed the Board that the football team has won two games and they believe that Forbush will be on WXII this Friday as the winner of the Unifi Bowl. Madison McLellan stated that things at Starmount High School were going well and that the students really liked the new Ram Time where they go to a teacher they don t have for one week and the next week their class is 25 minutes longer. She also stated that she feels like Starmount will be the team on WXII this week. Isabeau Clark stated that school is going really well at Yadkin Early College. She stated that the new freshman have adjusted well and seem proud of their school and that everything has come together smoothly. Rex Baity stated he hoped that Forbush and Starmount have a good clean game this week. He also stated that he appreciated the pictures he received from Courtney Elementary School. In addition, he welcomed Dr. Martin to Yadkin County Schools. Jennifer Hemric stated she graduated from Forbush High School but has a child at Starmount High School so she will be happy with whichever team wins and that she hopes it will be a good close game. She also congratulated Dr. Martin and stated she looked forward to working with him. In addition, she wished Dr. Hobbs the best in his retirement. She stated that she was also pleased when she received the drawings from the students at Courtney Elementary School.

Lynn Allred thanked Dr. Hobbs for his service and welcomed Dr. Martin to Yadkin County Schools. He stated that Dr. Martin has an impressive resume and that the thing that touched him was that he feels Dr. Martin was heartfelt when he stated he was glad to be in Yadkin County with his family. Frank Brown welcomed Dr. Martin to Yadkin County Schools. He stated that while Dr. Martin was not his first choice because he felt they needed someone with experience, he had checked with people who knew Dr. Martin and that everyone had stated he was a good guy, smart, and very capable. Joe Dezern stated he appreciated the organization of the opening convocation and having Heather Macy as the keynote speaker. He stated she did a great job and it was good to see previous students being successful. He also stated that he would like to mention that in talking to administrators and different staff members, it appears we are off to a really good start. He welcomed Dr. Martin and stated he hoped he had a good experience in Yadkin County. In addition, he stated he appreciated what Dr. Hobbs has done for Yadkin County Schools. Howard McKnight stated he would like to welcome Dr. Martin and his family to Yadkin County and thanked Dr. Hobbs for the dedication he has given to our school system. The Board discussed that the October Board meeting would be moved to September 30 so they could have Dr. Martin sworn in before October 1. The Board also stated that we would have this regular meeting in lieu of the joint commissioners meeting that was scheduled.
