Declaration and Certification of Finances Form An international student must be able to show financial support for a student s total expenses including tuition, fees, and cost of living for an academic year. To demonstrate this amount of financial support, StMU must see evidence of financial resources from personal or family funds, StMU, or other organizations. If you are providing an original bank statement or bank letter, they must indicate sufficient funds that are easily available. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, and the like, are not acceptable. Bank statements or letters must be in English and show U.S. dollar amounts. Electronic or scanned copies of documents requested below will be accepted for review. However original copies must be mailed as soon as possible and your immigration documents might not be issued until we receive the original documents. Bank statements must reference the account holder s name and will not be returned to you. While there are no restrictions on the source of funds for those applying for an F-1 student visa, applicants for the J-1 visa must show evidence of sufficient financial support (other than personal funds) that is from a government agency, organization or the university. Students may be charged additional fees associated with their education level, choice of major, and/or course requirements. All International Students are required to have health insurance. Dependent Costs If you are married and plan to bring your spouse and/or unmarried child(ren) under the age of 21 years with you, you must provide additional financial support for issuance of an F-2/J-2 dependent I-20/DS-2019 form. Add $5,000 for your spouse and $3,000 for EACH child for an academic year. You must also please attach a copy of each dependent s passport and documentation of their relationship to you (marriage certificate/birth certificate).
