Florida Writing Assessment Prompts From 1993-2011 Grade 4 The writing prompts that follow are general approximations of the Florida Writing Assessment prompts that have been given to 4 th grade students since the beginning of the Florida Writing Assessment program. The most recent prompts are words exactly as the actual assessments. 2011 Everyone has a favorite kind of weather. Think about your favorite kind of weather. Expository Write to explain why it is your favorite kind of weather. 2010 Narrative What if a principal asked the 4th grade students to make lunch for the school one day? Think about what might happen when you and your class made lunch for the school one day. Write a story about what happened the day some 4 th grade students made lunch for the school.

2009 Expository Everyone has to follow rules. Think about why it is important to follow rules. Write to explain why it is important to follow the rules. Narrative Everyone has a day off from school. Think about time when you had a day off from school. Now write a story about a time you had a day off from school. 2008 Expository Students often help by doing a job in the classroom. Think about your favorite classroom job. Now write to explain your favorite classroom job. Narrative Many people play games with family and friends. Think about what happens when someone plays a game with family or friends. Write a story about what happens when someone plays a game with family or friends.

2007 Many people have something special to them, like a toy, a book, or an award. Think about something that is special to you and what makes it special. Your class has a classroom pet and it is your turn to take care of the pet for one day. Think about what might happen during that day. Think about a particular person you would choose to be the teacher for a day. Write to explain why you choose that particular person to be the teacher for a day. We all have often wondered what it would be like to have a famous person visit us. Think about a famous person coming to visit. Now write to tell a story about a famous person coming to visit.
