St. Mary School Auction Committee http://signup.com/go/pfojdzt In partnership with the Leelanau County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and Leelanau County Schools, St. Mary School welcomes Michael DeLeon from Steered Straight to address our middle school and high school students in an assembly format. During the presentation students will hear age-appropriate lessons about current drug trends including the opioid epidemic in our country and vaping among our younger population. Students will learn about signs and symptoms of drug use, discussion points to prevent initial use, and how to continue the conversation about prevention. The presentations at St. Mary School will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. The Leelanau County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is also hosting community presentations during the evening. I write to let you know that our chapter of The National Honor Society will be joining the dedicated community fight against food scarcity issues that our world faces on a global scale. The upcoming CROP HUNGER WALK, hosted by Church World Service, will take place at the Omena Church on Sunday, October 7. Registration begins at 1:30 pm, and the walk will start promptly at 2 pm. National Honor Society Members will be reaching out to our St. Mary community for supporting us with this worthwhile cause. Both elementary girls and middle school boys will begin practices the week of Oct. 15 th. T There is a registration form for elementary girls basketball on page 5 of today s Happenings. Dates of competition: Nov. 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1, 8 No physical required by MHSAA for elementary athletics. Middle School Boys must have a current physical to participate! Current means the physical is dated 4/15/18 or later. St. Mary Eagles Girls Elementary Basketball 2018 Fall League: Grades 3 rd thru 6th Student/Player Registration Registrations due by Friday October 12th May hand into Athletic Office or Main Office. Basketball League Information: Practice Location: All practices held at St. Mary School in main gym or Aux gym. Practice Dates: Practices will begin the week of October 15 th. Practice Times: Practices will be at 3:20 to 5:00 or 5:00 6:30. Max 2X/week. Game Locations: St. Mary School, Northport, Leland Game Dates/Times: Saturday mornings on November 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1, 8 Parents of 5 th & 6 th Graders: There may be teams of combined 5 th /6 th graders in the league from other schools. We intend to run two teams if we have the numbers to support that. Required equipment: Clean gym shoes, socks, shorts & t-shirt. Hair shoulder length or hanging in the face should be pulled back with a hair rubber band or soft band. Game reversible is provided and team t-shirt. Fee: Player fee is $20.00. This fee will go towards the purchasing the team t-shirt and officials. Number of players on a team? Minimum of 8 per team. If there are not enough players for a team, two grades may be combined to make a full team. Teams will be divided as evenly as possible with ride share consideration. You will receive your practice/game schedule and coach information at the first practice. Questions?
