Eligibility to participate is based first on the age determining date. The grade of the athlete is not a consideration if the athlete meets the age determining date. An athlete who does not meet the age determining date may qualify under the grade exception rule. In the 8:U/2 nd Grade through the 14:U/8 th Grade division, each team is allowed a maximum of three grade exception athletes. There is no limit on the number of grade exception athletes in the 15:U/9 th Grade divisions through the Senior Boys division (19:U). 8:Under/2 nd grade division; born on or after September 1, 2000 Exception: A player who is in the 2 nd grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1999 can participate in the 8:Under/2 nd grade division. 9:Under/3 rd grade division; born on or after September 1, 1999 Exception: A player who is in the 3 rd grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1998 can participate in the 9:Under/3 rd grade division. 10:Under/4th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1998 Exception: A player who is in the 4th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1997 can participate in the 10:U/4th grade division. 11:Under/5th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1997. Exception: A player who is in the 5th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1996 can participate in the 11:under/5th grade division. 12:Under/6th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1996. Exception: A player who is in the 6th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1995 can participate in the 12:under/6th grade division. 13:Under/7th grade division; born on or after September, 1995. Exception: A player who is in the 7th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1994 can participate in the 13:under/7th grade division. 14:Under/8th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1994. Exception: A player who is in the 8th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1993 can participate in the 14:under/8th grade division. 15:Under/9th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1993. Exception: A player who is in the 9th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1992 can participate in the 15:under/9th grade division. 16 Under/10th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1992. Exception: A player who is in the 10th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1991 can participate in the 16:under/10th grade division. 17:Under/11th grade division; born on or after September 1, 1991. Exception: A player who is in the 11th grade and who was born on after September 1, 1990 can participate in the Junior boys/11 th Grade division.

3 Iowa AAU Boys Basketball November, 2008 Grade Exception 2: A player who is enrolling in Prep School is eligible to participate in the AAU Junior Boys Basketball Program provided he was born on or after September 1, 1990 (Subject to the approval of the National Chair). Contact the National Chair (Boo Williams) to apply for approval. No limit on the number of grade exception athletes. 19:Under Senior Boys born on or after September 1, 1989 (no later than summer following H.S. Class Graduation or Prep School graduation). No limit on the number of grade exception athletes. The 7:U 1 st Grade Division is authorized for competition at the District level ONLY. In the 8:U/2 nd Grade Division all teams are eligible to compete in the National Championship as long as they have competed in the District Qualifying Tournament. If the District does not hold a qualifying tournament any 8:U/2 nd Grade team from that District may advance to the National Championship. AAU MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS All participants and coaches must be members of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The annual membership fee applies to all AAU sports throughout the year. ENTRY FEE: Varies per age. Tournament format is pool play and single elimination or double elimination depending upon number of teams entered and gym availability. Send fee with entry blank to the Tournament Director. Number of games averaged per team in 2007 was four (4) games. School Athletic Association rules. Iowa AAU cannot rule on the eligibility of coaches. AWARDS: Individual medals will be provided for the final four teams in each of the tournaments. Team trophies will be awarded to the championship team in each division. The most valuable player of each state tournament will be given an award by Iowa AAU. SPECTATORS: Spectators are welcome. An admission charge will be made. Participating players and all AAU registered coaches will be admitted free with AAU membership card, for their games. ROSTER OF PLAYERS: The roster established at the time of the first regional game must be used throughout the state tournament. No additions or changes are permitted. National AAU rules limit the roster to fifteen (15) players in age tournaments. BALLS: Game ball will be furnished for games only. Teams must bring their own warm up balls. COACHES OF TEAMS: It is assumed that school personnel (compensated or not) who coach teams in these tournaments are familiar with and are in compliance with Iowa High HOLD HARMLESS: The sponsoring organizations and the host schools will not be responsible for any injuries, loss of property, or any accidents that might occur during the tournaments. UNIFORMS: Each team must have jerseys of like color with number preferably on front and back. Teams competing in National Championships must have WHITE and dark jerseys as well as number on front and back.

4 Iowa AAU Boys Basketball November, 2008 PROOF OF AGE/GRADE: Each age division participant must present a copy of his birth certificate to the tournament director prior to his first game to verify eligibility. No player will be allowed to play in an age division tournament without proof of age or grade. Grade division participants do not need birth certificate, but do need a signature on the entry blank from a school official verifying grade and school. Grade exception form must be completed for athletes that do not meet the age requirement and do meet the grade requirement PLAYER ELIGIBILITY: In grade level tournaments, all players must have a school official sign the roster that indicates the school they attend and the grade that they are presently attending. Any player who has ever attended college or junior college is not eligible to play in the AAU Boys Basketball program. 19:U eligibility ends the summer following high school graduation. An athlete may participate in his own District or in a bordering District. At no time will a player be eligible when it is not a bordering District. A maximum of three (3) athletes will be allowed on a team from bordering Districts. PLAYER PARTICIPATION: 1. Only males may participate as players. 2. A player may not participate later than the summer following his class graduation from high school or prep school. 3. A player may participate in a Maximum of three (3) age/grade divisions of the AAU Boys Basketball program for which he can qualify. Players that compete in more than one age/grade division must compete with the same AAU Club. RESIDENCY Residency An athlete must compete with a club registered in the district of his bona fide residency unless he elects to compete under one of the following exceptions: 1. An athlete may attach to a club in any district which shares a common border with the athlete s district of residency. 2. An athlete enrolled as a bona fide student at an educational institution located outside of his district of residency may elect to treat the district in which the school is located, as his district of residency. 3. An athlete who is subject to a written joint custody arrangement may elect to treat the district of either custodian as his district or residency. RULES: Iowa High School Athletic District rules will be used. The 3-point will be used in all divisions. Each team must have jerseys of like color with numbers. SIZE OF BALL: The undersized basketball shall be used for all 7:U, 8:U, 9:U, 10:U, 11:U and 12:U age divisions as well as the 3 rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Divisions. Circumference shall be 28 1/2". LENGTH OF QUARTERS: The 7:U, 8:U, 9:U, 10:U, 11:U and 3 rd, 4th, 5th, 6th Grade Divisions will play 6 minute quarters. The 12:U, 13:U and 7th Grade and 8th Grade Divisions will play 7 minute quarters. All other divisions will play 8 minute quarters. Game Time: The game time will also be the forfeit time. No grace period will be allowed. COACHING RESTRICTIONS No person may be a coach for any team competing in an event for which he/she is the tournament director.

5 Iowa AAU Boys Basketball November, 2008 PRESS RULE Teams ahead by 30 points or more at any point in the second half must play defense behind their three-point arc. If the lead drops below 30 points normal rules will resume. First offense: Warning, Second and all additional offenses: 2 shot technical. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM ROSTERS 1. A team that qualifies for a National Championship Tournament may add a maximum of seven (7) players to its District Roster for the purpose of participating in the National Tournaments. The total number of players designated to play in the National Tournament may not exceed fifteen (15) players. 2. An athlete must have been able to satisfy all eligibility requirements (regarding age, residence, etc.) unless approved by the Eligibility Committee. 3. There shall be a maximum of three (3) cross boundary athletes on a roster at any time. 4. A team advancing to a Division I National Championship may not add a player from another team advancing to a Division I National Championship in the same age group without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee. 5. A team advancing to a Division II National Championship may not add any players from another team that is advancing to a Division II National Championship in the same age group without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee. 6. A maximum of two (2) additional athletes may be added to the National Championship Roster after the entry deadline. NOTE: QUALIFYING TEAM: a team which has met the requirements to compete in the National Championship. ADVANCING TEAM: a team which is competing (participating) in the National Championship. Teams will register online at www.aauboysbasketball.org for National Championships. COACHES CHECK LIST TO BRING TO TOURNAMENT - 1. Completed Roster 2. 6 Iowa AAU Boys Basketball November, 2008 AAU MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP PERIOD: The 2009 membership period is from September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009. AAU MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: The AAU will continue its regular membership program, which provides athlete accident insurance and general liability insurance for all AAU sanctioned practices and competitions - as a benefit of membership. All aspects of our current program will be maintained for regular membership of $12.00 per youth athlete and $14.00 for non-athletes (coaches). The Added Benefit or AB membership provides athlete accident and general liability insurance for athletes, non-athletes (coaches), clubs and Districts in specified non-aausanctioned competitions. The AB card must be purchased when the athlete or coach first registers with the AAU. Athletes/Non-Athletes (Coaches) may not pay the difference in the cards to up-grade to an AB card at a later date. The AB card is available to all youth athletes and non-athletes. For team sports, all athletes and coaches on the team must have the AB membership for it to be in effect. Some of the members cannot have regular membership and some have AB memberships. In team sports, both general liability and athlete accident insurance will be extended to AAU teams participating in supervised and scheduled non-aau-sanctioned competitions and practices. Coverage will not extend to any non-aau-sanctioned competitions hosted or conducted by AAU clubs. The cost of the AB card is $14.00 for youth and $16.00 for non-athletes (coaches). Membership Fee: $12 athlete /$14 nonathlete or AB membership $14 athlete/$16 non-athlete. MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORMS: You must register on the Internet at www.aausports.org. CLUB MEMBERSHIP Register on the Internet at www.aausports.org. The AAU code says that basketball teams are to have a club membership. You can get one membership for all of your school teams, but each of your athletes and non-athletes (coaches) must have individual memberships. AAU TOURNAMENTS are covered by comprehensive insurance program for athletes, coaches and volunteers if your tournament is AAU sanctioned. AAU TOURNAMENTS Age Division tournaments offer your team advancement to National AAU Tournaments. 2009 NATIONAL CHAMP[IONSHIP TOURNAMENT SITE Check the web site at www.aauboysbasketball.org for locations.

7 Iowa AAU Boys Basketball November, 2008 NATIONAL TOURNAMENT QUALIFICATION CRITERIA In the District and Super Regional Championships, teams qualify for the National Championships based upon the following criteria: (Total number of teams in each age group participating in Division I and Division II qualifying events count towards the team totals for advancing to Nationals.) 1. When there are 3 teams A. One (1) team only may advance for Division I B. One (1) team may advance for Division II. 2. When there are 4-6 teams A. Two (2) teams may advance for Division I B. Two (2) teams may advance for Division II 3. When there are 7-9 teams A. Three (3) teams may advance for Division I B. Three (3) teams may advance for Division II 4. When there are 10-12 teams A. Four (4) teams may advance for Division I. B. Four (4) teams may advance for Division II. 5. When there are 13-15 teams A. Five (5) teams may advance for Division I B. Five (5) teams may advance for Division II. 6. When there are 16-18 teams A. Six (6) teams may advance for Division I. B. Six (6) teams may advance for Division II. 7. When there are 19-21 teams A. Seven (7) teams may advance for Division I. B. Seven (7) teams may advance for Division II 8. The District Sport Director and/or the National Chair may each name one additional increment of 3, starting with 22 teams. 9. Teams that finish in 5 th Place or lower which qualify for Division I may choose to use their bid for either Division I or Division II or both. 10. EXCEPTIONS: In the 8:U/2 nd grade, 9:U/3 rd grade and Sr. Boys Division all teams are eligible to compete in the National Championship. Club Program/Automatic Entry A club will receive one automatic entry (for the following year) for every four (4) teams entered into National Championship events (combined total for Division I and II). The entry may be used for any age/grade division for either Division I or II. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING EXCEPTIONS In the 10:Under/4 th grade the fourth place team may advance if 16 or more teams participate in District qualifying tournament. In the 9:U/2 nd grade, 9:U/3 rd grade and Senior Boys Division all teams are eligible to compete in the National Championship as long as they have competed in the District Qualifying Tournament. If the District does not hold a qualifying tournament any 8:U/2 nd, 9:U/3 rd or Senior Division team from that District may advance to the National Championship.
