Application information M.S. Program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology Fall 2019 Thank you for your interest in the M.S. Program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology at San Jose State - we greatly appreciate the time, energy, and resources you're investing in applying to this program. If you haven t done so already, we encourage you to read the Program Brochure to learn about the program and applicant eligibility requirements (http://www.sjsu.edu/psych/graduates/industrialpsych/). Please note you must submit separate application materials to the Psychology Department and the Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE) Office (see below). It is your responsibility to gather the required application materials and submit them by the stated deadlines. To be considered for the MS Program in I/O Psychology, you must complete steps (A), (B), and (C) below: (A) Submit the following application materials to the Psychology Department by February 1, 2019: 1. Application Cover Sheet 2. Checklist of Application Materials 3. A professional resume or vitae detailing your educational background, work experience, relevant activities and affiliations, and accomplishments. 4. A statement of purpose (maximum of two single-spaced pages, with your name at the top of each page) that describes your (a) experiences, accomplishments, and interests related to I/O Psychology, (b) involvement as a member of an academic community, (c) educational and professional goals both during and after graduate school, and (d) reasons for applying to San Jose State. Also, at the end of your statement, in one paragraph entitled "Comfort Zone", please describe a situation in which you had to go beyond your normal comfort zone in order to achieve a goal. 5. A photocopy of your most recent ETS Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude test scores (the Advanced Test in Psychology is not required) also be sure to have an official report of your GRE scores sent to SJSU (institutional code 4687). 6. Three signed letter of recommendation forms and letters. Each signed letter of recommendation form and letter must be submitted together, either mailed in a sealed envelope or emailed from the letter writer to i-o-psychology@sjsu.edu. On the Application Cover Sheet, indicate whether each letter of recommendation form and letter is included with your mailed application or will be sent by the letter writer. NOTE: letters without signed letter of recommendation forms cannot be evaluated as part of your application and your application will be considered to be incomplete. 7. Official transcripts of college coursework relevant to I/O psychology. Please mail unopened (sealed) transcripts to the Psychology Department; if you send your entire application by regular mail rather than email, include your transcripts in the same envelope with your other application materials. Although this is not preferred, you may have your schools mail transcripts to this address: Name of applicant (last, first) ATTN: M.S. I/O Program (DMH 157) San Jose CA 95192-0120 On the Application Cover Sheet, indicate whether you ve sent your transcripts or if they'll be mailed to the Psychology Department by your schools. Once you ve gathered the above materials, you may submit them to the Psychology Department in one of two ways: either (a) mail all of the application materials together in one envelope to this address: M.S. I/O Program (DMH 157) San Jose CA 95192-0120 or (b) email your Application Cover Sheet, Checklist of Application Materials, resume or vitae, statement of purpose, and photocopy of GRE scores as five appropriately named files in.pdf format (not.jpg, Word document, or compressed) to i-o-psychology@sjsu.edu and mail letters of recommendation and transcripts to the Psychology Department.

IMPORTANT: The deadline for submitting your application to the Psychology Department is February 1st, 2019. If you re unable to send transcripts, GRE scores, or letters of recommendation by the February 1st deadline, you may submit the other materials to the Psychology Department and indicate on the Checklist of Application Materials when the missing materials will be submitted. Your application will not be evaluated until all application materials have been received. After the February 1st deadline, you ll receive an email confirming that your application to Psychology Department has been received and whether it is complete. If you do not receive a confirmation email by February 21st, email i-o-psychology@sjsu.edu regarding the status of your application. (B) Submit the following materials to the SJSU Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluation (GAPE) Office (http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-to-apply/): 1. Online Cal State Apply Application (calstate.edu/apply). The deadline to submit this application is February 1st. 2. Application processing fee. An application fee is required to successfully submit your Cal State Apply application, and can be paid by credit card or Paypal. The application fee is nonrefundable, even if you later withdraw your application or if you are not admitted into the university or the I/O program. Also, the fee cannot be used for any term other than the one on the submitted application. After you've received your SJSU ID# from the GAPE office, submit the materials in steps 3-5 below no later than February 20th to this address: Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE) San Jose, CA 95192-0017 3. Official transcripts of relevant college academic work. You must submit official transcripts from institutions attended, including those from which you did not complete a degree program. All transcripts must be sealed and unopened in order to be accepted as official documents. If you are currently enrolled and have not yet received an undergraduate degree, submit your most recent transcript; if you are admitted into the I/O program, you must later submit a final transcript to GAPE that displays your posted degree to avoid delays in the admissions and enrollment process. If you took coursework and/or earned a degree outside of the U.S., you must submit transcripts to WES (World Education Services) (http://www.wes.org/students/index.asp). This does not apply to students who completed coursework as part of a study abroad program while earning a degree in the U.S. (see http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-to-apply/domestic-steps-to-admission/ for more details). If you received your undergraduate degree at an institution outside of the U.S., you may need to submit a test of English TOEFL score if the primary language of instruction was not English - see step (C) below for more information. 4. California residency questionnaire and supporting documents (optional). All students intending to pay resident tuition must provide documentation of physical presence and intent to remain in California at least one full year prior to the Residence Determination Date for the applied term. Please submit the Residency Questionnaire (http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-toapply/domestic-steps-to-admission/csu-residence-questionnaire%205%202018.pdf); for additional residency information, go to http://www.sjsu.edu/registrar/students/residency/index.html. 5. Legal Presence (non-citizens only). If you are not a U.S. citizen, the GAPE office will inform you, through your MySJSU To-Do list, which official documents you may need to provide to the university (e.g., a copy of your current H4 or H1 visa or green card). For more information, see http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-to-apply/domestic-steps-to-admission/.

NOTE: Although the deadline for submitting your GAPE application (February 20th) is after the deadline for submitting your application to the Psychology Department (February 1st), your application to the I/O program will not be evaluated until your GAPE application is complete and referred to the Psychology Department. As this processing may take 2-3 weeks, it is in your best interest to submit your supporting materials to GAPE as soon after February 1st as possible. (C) (International applicants only) After you've received your SJSU ID# from the GAPE office, submit the following materials as part of your GAPE application: In addition to the materials listed above, international applicants must also submit the following materials to the GAPE office (for more information, please see International Steps to Admission at http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-to-apply/international-steps-to-admission/index.html): 1. WES Evaluation and International Mark sheets and Degree Certificates. If you completed a degree at an institution outside of the U.S. and territories and Canada, you must submit your mark sheets/transcripts to WES (World Education Services) for evaluation (please see http://www.wes.org/students/index.asp). 2. TOEFL score (96 or higher (Internet based)). A TOEFL score of 96 or higher is required of all students graduating from a higher education institution outside of the U.S. where the primary language of instruction is not English. Your test scores must be less than two years old and sent directly from the ETS office (SJSU institution code is 4687). In addition, please submit a photocopy of your TOEFL scores with your application to the Department of Psychology. The TOEFL requirement may be waived if you meet one of the following conditions: * you received a BS or MS degree from an accredited U.S. institution, or * you completed 72 semester units or 108 quarter units in a U.S. institution, or * you completed 3 years of full-time study in a U.S. institution. 3. Declaration of Finance. Please complete and submit the Declaration of Finance form (http://www.sjsu.edu/isa/docs/declaration_of_finance.pdf); see http://www.sjsu.edu/graduateadmissions/want-to-apply/international-steps-to-admission/ or http://www.sjsu.edu/global/how-to-apply/graduate-admission/index.html for the current amount. To all applicants: * * * * * Please remember it is your responsibility to gather your application materials and submit them to the Psychology Department and GAPE by the stated deadlines. After the stated deadlines have passed, you ll receive an email confirming your application to Psychology Department has been received and whether it is complete. In terms of your GAPE application, after you've submitted all of the required materials, please check your To Do list frequently to insure your application status is Complete and has been Referred to the Psychology Department (allow 3 weeks after all materials have been submitted) - contact GAPE in case of any delays in the processing of your application (http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/about_us/staff/). If you believe GAPE has not received your transcripts even though your Psychology Department application has been received and is complete, do not order new transcripts to be sent to GAPE - instead, first contact the Psychology Department at i-o-psychology@sjsu.edu so we may assist you. Applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be evaluated and selected on the basis of their application materials (please see the M.S. I/O Program Brochure for more information). Unfortunately, due to a limited number of available spaces, not all students meeting the minimum requirements can be selected. We expect to begin notifying applicants of their application status by the middle of March. Thank you again for your interest in I/O psychology and the I/O program at San Jose State. We wish you the very best in your academic and professional pursuits.
